My baby rec'd 3 shots for $27. We arrived first thing in the morning, since the clinic was from 9am-12pm on May 2nd. Four Muddy Paws is housed in a strip mall with plenty of parking and there was a bank next door that looked to be closed on Saturday so that accommodated for additional parking. The clinic was held outside in the grassy area, they had a table set up, so it was first come, first serve. The paperwork was simple and they accepted cash or card payments. The wait time wasn't bad, it took us an hour from start to finish and the staff was really nice and loving to the babies and were ready for all types...meaning if your fur-baby was scared or frightened. We rec'd a free cookie from Treats Unleashed for the fur-babies and a $5 gift card. You select the one you want, an associate programs the machine and loads your new tag. Then you take over the keyboard by selecting how many lines you want. The next step is typing what you want on the tag and selecting a font. Final step is proofing and hitting the engrave button. When it's done engraving, you've got a fashionable tag for your new family member. The other item I needed was a coupler. I needed it for the seatbelt restraint. Instead of securing one dog, I now needed to make sure two dogs were safe while riding shotgun. Unfortunately they couldn't squeeze her in and recommended an emergency clinic. My vet is in STL and since I now live on the Eastside of the river, I choose Hawthorne. When I looked at the reviews on Yelp, I became concerned, but I needed a vet fast. I called, told them the issues and they said, to come on in. Wow, the staff was so attentive and caring to me and my fur-baby when we arrived. We were promptly escorted to an exam room and the vet tech was professional and thorough in asking questions to help us resolve the problem my dog was having. When the vet came to the exam room, she was very loving to my baby and explained what they determined the health issue to be. It was what I thought it was, she had an abscessed tooth. What impressed me was, how they coordinated care with my regular vet. I had my vet on the phone and as a team we all worked to see who could get her in for the tooth extraction the fastest. My vet could get her in the fastest. To make things easier for me and my vet, Hawthorne offered to do the prep bloodwork and send it to my vet. We both appreciated that. When I lived in STL, I had multiple emergency clinics to choose from when a need would arise. Now on the Eastside, there are not that many to choose from, but if there were, I'd still choose Hawthorne. I was impressed with the service and care I received and I am a picky dog dad.

Dr. Kristen entered the room and congratulated me on the new adoption. She briefly asked me a few more questions, before exiting with Princess to the exam room. When she returned, she praised Princess's good behavior and gave her a good health report. Being a Chihuahua, her only issue was some tartar on her teeth. She recommended OraVet as a treat to help clean up and keep the tartar away. I'm picky about the veterinarian who cares for my fur-babies and Heartland checks all the boxes. Once I rescued/adopted a new fur-baby, her new vet recommended a couple of different brands of food. She did not recommend the one that the rescue group had been feeding her. Since her new vet is in Edwardsville and I had good luck here with Sprites food, I came back. I checked out all three of the brands that the new vet recommended and went with, Royal Canin. I liked the smaller bag, since Sophia is a small dog. That way the food will stay fresh and I can just buy more frequently. Plus, the price point is very affordable. The store is well organized and for a store that allows pets, it always smells clean.
