Emoly is probably my favorite human being and DEFINITELY my most favorite hair stylist ever- I picked SDS entirely on random a few months ago and I have literally never loved my haircuts more. Currently, I see Emoly for just haircuts, but am looking into getting color done with her simply because I trust that she would never ever mess up the quality of my hair. She gives the best scalp massages ever, always informs me about what she's doing with each step, checks in with me often, especially during the cut, and likes to be thorough about what I'm looking for. I drive an hour from Longwood JUST to see her, and I have absolutely no regrets. Best hair stylist ever! Great place. Angeline, master stylist, is wonderful. She spent plenty of time discussing my hair texture and needs. I actually got the perfect hair cut and style that we discussed, and she left my length exactly as she explained. I asked for recommendations on product, and she gave me a few choices. I will NEVER come here again. Back in April I got my hair cut to a "long bob" and The lady who cut my hair I guess thought for a second she was doing a short bob ... if you were to horizontally part my hair in half the bottom half was pretty much SHAVED without my permission. I told her I've always had long hair during my appointment and obviously that didn't mean anything. After doing it she saw the look on my face and said it's going to be really short in the back for now but it will help it lay better... after speaking with the manager all they offered me was a 10% discount on my next cut. DO NOT COME HERE! The pictures posted were taken AFTER I started taking hair pills, the one in the black shirt is from the day of and it's now January (9 months after) and ITS STILL SHORT. She made my hair look terrible for my wedding day so idk how much worse it could get read more

Made an appointment for a hair cut and was assigned a senior stylist..this means higher price...she told me how poor my hair color looked and talked me into coloring and a cut. To make a long story short it cost me $$$$ to repair my hair and hopefully it won't be damaged too much. I was a walk-in, honestly this wasn't my first choice but the place I planned on going to was booked solid and VERY rude so I took my business here. And man was I glad I did. Firstly, being able to accommodate a walk-in was awesome because my schedule is so hectic that I can never plan anything. I was told 15 minutes and it was exactly 15 minutes. Katie was amazing. She made me feel wonderful and I cannot wait to go back. One of the biggest things that make me want to go back was the fact that no products were shoved down my throat. Katie told me what she had been using and that it was available, but there was no pushing me to buy it. She did an amazing job, and I havent felt this great about how my hair looked in FOREVER. I had a really enjoyable time at this new Salon del Sol location while visiting Richmond. I was able to get a hair appointment on a holiday weekend without any problem. The salon decor is chic without being too trendy. All of the staff was friendly, and since the salon is an Aveda Lifestyle salon, you get the best treatment- head massage before the shampoo and cut, coffee or tea while you wait, and a relaxing lounge to wait for your spa services. read more

I saw the low review on Yelp and was surprised. So I went online and checked Google review and Facebook review. Both of those are above 4.5 stars with dozens of reviews. So I don't know why yelp is so low. I went to get a haircut yesterday with Morgan, a design level stylist. The cut was $65. After she shampooed my hair she put in a conditioning treatment and wrapped in a hot towel to sit during which time they gave me a complementary mini facial. That was very nice. And it felt great. The haircut itself was quite good. I had a lot of dead ends from multiple ombre treatments. Morgan cut off the dead ends. And she did an excellent job layering the remaining hair. She did a great job blowing out. Separating it into sections. And making sure that everything was even after she finished. She added a smoothing gel which made my hair look sleek and smooth for two days afterward. Standard stuff, but done with a great deal of skill. I was so impressed I booked another appointment. I wish that they still had a spa and massage at that location. It's a pain to have to drive all the way down to Midlothian for that service. I've had one or two haircuts before at salon del sol that we're OK. This one was really great. I recommend asking for Morgan. read more

This was my fist time at Salon Del Sol and I was very impressed! My stylist and I were on the same page and we both had the same vision. I felt like a princess between the scalp massage as well as the hand massage while I was at the sink. I cannot wait for my next visit! read more

I was in from out of town for a wedding and went to this location for a blow out. I love Aveda, and figured that their quality of work is consistent everywhere. I made an appointment and over the phone they told me it was with a junior stylist- fine. I figure a blow out is pretty basic and hard to mess up. I got there and was greeted by super nice girls. So I started the "blow out"- the stylist started using a paddle brush and just brushing and moving the dryer around.. She didn't section my long, thick hair at all. After 45 minutes my hair was still wet and stringy. Then she started to flat iron.. And this point I had to blow dry my own hair and get out of there to be on time for the wedding. Would not recommend a "junior" stylist here at allllll! read more

Although I felt it was too pricey I became I regular here because my stylist did a great job with a haircut. I went to a master stylist. Had an appointment scheduled for this weekend and realized I never got my confirmation text or phone call. When I called to ask they said they didn't have my appointment in the system and that my regular stylist was no longer with them. They'd be happy to schedule me with one of the stylists who took over her customers. I ended up with a Junior stylist (entry level vs experienced). Walked away with a Great Clips experience at Salon Del Sol prices. My hair has been highlighted blonde for decades showed her the color on my own hair it's now brown. Hair was long and light layers, said trim maybe 1/2" well hair is now short with heavy layers. Bangs had long since been grown out I now have bangs. So disappointed. This Salon is OK. It is all show, no go. Basically, it is very chic, however the quality of the cut is not what it should be. It is very pricey and you will not leave there with a really great cut. I don't mind spending the money as long as I get what I paid for. You will get a very expensive so-so haircut here. read more

I had a horrible experience this week at Salon Del Sol on Hull Street. I had an appointment with a stylist who no longer worked at the salon. A Master stylist was available and said she would cut my hair at the same cost level. I gave specific instructions that I wanted to keep the length of my long hair, using my fingers to show about 1/4 inch off the ends ( 1 inch was cut from the back). I stated that I wanted my long layers about an I/2 inch trimmed, but the stylist talked me into 1 inch. I also stated that I wanted some framing just around my face. The stylist cut about 3 inches off the sides. I have curly hair which she was aware of, and unfortunately since she took too much off the sides, my hair is even shorter. This mistake of the stylist has made me incredible sad, since my hair grows very slow, so I would imagine I am faced with a bad haircut for a year or more. I was charged for a master stylist. I called the next day to speak with the manager. I left a message, but I never got a call back. read more
