I waited for over 7 weeks to post this review. I came here in September, after my hairdresser moved…read moreaway. I decided to try a small town place and having the owner cut my hair, I though to myself "At least she won't move away." I came with a picture of what I wanted. My hair was about 6 inches past my shoulders and I asked for it to be right to my shoulder with bangs and a few layers. I explained that I wear my hair up in a ponytail almost daily, so it must still fit into a ponytail. After I was told that it was a super easy hair style, it was off to get started. When she was done, my bangs were an inch above my eyebrows (Not in style anywhere). My hair was cut into a blunt, very short bob, and it was parted in the center (when I always part it to the side and the picture shown had it parted on the side). It still does not fit into the tiniest of ponytails, seven weeks later. At 57, I can say I honestly have never cried after getting my hair cut before, but this time, I cried for days. My husband was furious and kept making remarks about how awful my hair looked and he wanted to go and speak to her. But that wouldn't make may hair look better, so why bother. My sister couldn't stop laughing at me, and I have been trying to avoid the mirror for almost two months now. I actually believe this woman did her best job, it is just that her best job is terrible. On top of that she said some very offensive things and derogatory towards others. She insisted she was a Christian, but continued to put other groups of people down. Not to be considered Christian behavior. Feeling like she may be losing her thought process a bit. It became clear she is hard of hearing, a bigot, lousy at cutting hair and I believe the early stages of dementia may be at play. I am not saying this to be mean, I just feel others who are new to this establishment need to know what to expect. My business is not going to make a difference in her life, but she has made a major impact on my life. I am hoping by the spring to be able to get my hair cut again once, clearly somewhere else. It will take until Spring for me to have hair long enough to cut. I have been wearing a hat for weeks now, and I do not look good in hats.

I hate to leave this review as my initial contact with Salon Le Mae was such a positive one, but…read morealas.... I was relatively new to the area and needed a new stylist, ASAP. After reviewing some options online and making a few phone calls, I quickly settled on Salon La Mae. The reason? I was so impressed with the brief yet thorough consultation I had with the lovely young woman who answered the phone. She asked what I was looking to achieve and quickly recommended the salon owner for my first visit. She even went so far as to give me the owner's private number so I could forward her pics of what my current style looked like and what style I was aiming for. I was told this would better prepare for my initial visit. Nice, right? And I must say, my initial visit was quite good. It was right after COVID re-opening, so many safety protocols were in place. I especially liked how they provided me with a disposable mask so that bleach wouldn't ruin mine. Jamie was very thorough with my consultation and processed my color beautifully. She struggled a bit with my balayage, and I left with more of a highlighted look rather than an ombre appearance, but it was still quite nice. She also struggled some with the flat iron beach wave I requested as far as styling. But not a big deal whatsoever. My biggest complaint was the noise. It's a chatty place and very loud. I like to relax during my salon visits and it's next to impossible to do at this location. The conversation and language could use a slight 'cleaning up' as well. So, onto the following visits. This is where the pleasant waters started to murky some. I called to schedule a root touch-up and was promptly provided an appointment on a Saturday, which I requested due to my work schedule. The night prior to my appointment, I received a text from Jamie stating that she double booked the following day and needed to reschedule my appointment. The soonest she had open was an evening, the following Tuesday at 6:00. Although it was just a few days away and I try to remain flexible, this was frustrating. After a 9-hour workday, I would have to get approval to leave work 15 minutes early and sit at the salon after being away from home all day. So overall, my second appointment was surrounded in unfortunate circumstances and felt rushed once started. Now to my third and final 'attempt' at making an appointment. I called the salon several times one evening to schedule and could not get through. The only option I had was to leave a voicemail for my stylist who would call me back to schedule an appointment. That call never came. I gave it a few days and decided that I should probably admit defeat and move on to another salon. I did and I'm content. Salon La Mae is a laid-back place and just fine for a quick hairstyle needed by a client with a fairly open schedule. Just not for me.

I had a grown out bad haircut and she blended it in and somehow magically made my hair look longer. She always listens intently to what I want and doesn't just do whatever she wants like a lot of stylists do. If you have long hair and get nervous about too much being cut off, Beth's your girl. She stopped and asked several times throughout the cut about my opinion on what she was thinking to do next. Couldn't be happier with the outcome. Thanks, Beth!

Had to come back and update my review because a lot has changed at Vibrant Styles Salon & Spa...all…read moregood changes, though! Since opening five years ago the business has grown, literally: they've moved into a larger space. Their services list (per their website) includes cuts, coloring, waxing, lash extensions, and hair treatments and massages. Disclaimer that I've only ever gotten a haircut so that's the only service I can comment on. I'm officially a regular now, and I always book with Mallory because she does an excellent job. My hair is in the 2C/3A range and it is THICK...but Mallory always manages to tame it, making me look and feel fantastic. The larger space now also includes a small store stocked with not only hair care products, but with items made by local artists (including a member of the salon's own staff, as of my last visit). You can now browse through and purchase art, crystals, jewelry, crocheted creations, and more. A larger space also means...more cats! The salon is home to Jinx, Cinder, Onyx, and Arya - all four of whom graced me with their presence during my most recent visit. A holiday miracle indeed. It's been wonderful to see this business grow so much in a relatively short amount of time; and most importantly, it's still one of the most welcoming spaces I've had the privilege of spending time in. To me they're more than worth the drive from Carnegie to Coraopolis.
