I was fine with Siva. She retired and she recommended Rose, she was okay but soon was disappointed, she cut my hair ver, very short with no shape. I had to ask her to stop her. She is following strict diet that she looks dazed. I call this impaired on the job. I stopped going as it took Two months for it to barely grow back to have my short hair miserable mess with uneven hair growth. Terrible experience!! One star is too good for them. I went to see Lisa and she turned my hair ORANGE! She said let it set for a couple of days and if it didn't settle she would fix it, that was on a Saturday and I went back on Tuesday for her to "fix" it, but it only got worse from there. She refused to refund my money but offered for someone else to "try to fix it" but only on days and times that I was either going to be out of town or working. If you love the CLOWN LOOK, give Lisa a call. Otherwise save your $200. She was so rude and hateful about it too, which made it worse. Don't go here! read more

I want to begin by saying that Diana is a lovely person, friendly and a knowledgeable stylist. On the other hand, my daughters stylist could use some tips on measurement, requested two inch trim turned into at least four. The salon has been recently updated and looks lovely, well done. I was surprised to learn that cutting hair longer than shoulder length is automatically $15 more than the advertised price. I have always heard of this extra fee when coloring, highlighting, etc., but this was a first to be charged extra for trimming two inches...errr four...off of the ends. Ask lots of questions or you might be charged for the towel on your head. Overall, happy with the cut I received. Not excited to live with my teenager for the next six months while we patiently wait for her hair to grow back. Most likely will not return to be snowed by senseless up charges for simple haircuts, but well played fine print...well played. read more

Came with high hopes given the 4 star average. I specifically asked for Diana since so many people rave about her. My haircut was OK but grew out very unevenly. Diana was also really out of it - like maybe she had just rolled out of bed (my appointment was mid-afternoon). She also asked some weird questions - unrelated to my hair - which I found off-putting. The salon is out-dated and is very much a strip mall salon. I felt really out of place there (as a 30-something) and think it's more the.place to take your grandma to. Diana also spent a large amount of time trying to up sell me on various additional services when Iadenit clear that I just wanted a quick haircut. read more

I practically walked in with a past the shoulder mullet and at least 3 inches of black roots...the previous cut didn't age well. Great men's haircut at a very reasonable price. I always ask for Lisa and she always does a great job. Her salon is very friendly, cozy, and clean! She offers many options for coloring, waxing, threading as well. I never want to go anywhere else in Virginia! I always drive about 30 minutes but it is always worthwhile. Dianna gave me partial highlights and a hair cut. I almost never walk away happy from getting my hair highlighted but today I was elated. Usually the salonist misses patches, makes it look streaky, makes it way too blonde in some place and darker in others, but not Dianna. I looked at my hair and almost couldn't believe I loved it so much. This never happens to me and I've been to like 15 different places. She's fantastic, I highly recommend getting highlights from her. It was well blended, a beautiful honey like color, and there were no patches or missing spots. She also took her time and was careful but didn't waste time, I wasn't sitting there for 3 hours (like many places) and I wasn't rushed out the door after 45 minutes. It took a little more than an hour and was excellent :). So glad I found this place. read more

I'm a full time dental hygiene student and Mom of 3 children. I often put my academics and my children's needs before my own. I promised myself that at the break, I would finally get my hair done after a year of saving. I went to see my regular girl, Lisa. She's done cut and color on me before. I wanted a shorter length and a beige/blonde balayage with a really dark base. She explained that whatever she did the color would process ashy and my hair would be dry. I didn't want to push the issue so I changed to a dark base with a caramel balayage (see pic). After a 2.5 hour appointment, there was no significant change in my hair color (see pics). I could pick out a few highlights but otherwise my hair was unchanged. I told her about my concerns and she continued to tell me that the dark tones would come out when I washed my hair (?!) and that the balayage will appear with more layers (?!). I was still unhappy and she continued with more excuses; that it was the lighting, etc. I'm sad to say she offered no solution and so I saved all year and schedule my self care to no avail. I wouldn't recommend coming here. I paid $192 for this cut, color and lip wax. read more

I came here using the Groupon, like many of the people before me and had a good experience. It wasn't great. Again, I got a $15 upcharge for my hair being 1/2" past my shoulders. Diana, who cut my hair was friendly and peppy, and made some amazingly outrageous recommendations (let's shave everything but the top!), which made me laugh (I can't see that flying well with patients-- tattoos are already hard enough to get by most of my older and more conservative patients and their families)- but her enthusiasm for what she does was vivid and infectious and she's clearly in the perfect profession for her personality and talents. My hair cut was good. Not the best, not anything I would beg for again. And it grew out ok. It was a good experience, and I have no reason to steer anyone away from this establishment- but also don't think of bragging about them. read more

I So wanted to love my hair color But what they did with my hair Came here after an acquaintance referred them and I saw all of the great reviews. I've never had my hair professionally colored and have been wanting highlights so I figured I would take the plunge. NOT worth the $180 and 3.5 hours of my day. If I wanted ORANGE, yes orange, highlights, I'm pretty sure I could have done that myself. Was looking for Carmel colored and ended up with orange highlights. The girl that did my hair was very nice and I blame the owner and manager that were there for not interjecting, if they care about repeat business. Not only are my highlights orange, they were actually letting me walk out of the salon with hair dye covering my ears, on my forehead (all along my hair line). Really?? Lisa answered the phone and scheduled me for later that day, and said she would match the Groupon rates which was very convenient. I was considering partial highlights, but after looking at her photos went for balayage instead, which was $120 for cut and color. My hair is shoulder length. I don't color my hair often and I was pleased with the natural look that Lisa achieved, adding some depth to my natural color. I will be back! This was my third time and last time at Hair Xpressions. Several things that owners/management might want to take into account. The salon is very outdated, feels like it has not been renovated since the 80s. Cleanliness is lacking: stations cluttered and covered in a thick layer of dust and hair; hairbrushes (especially those used for blowdrying) are filthy; sinks are dirty...you name it. My stylist looked like she just rolled out of bed and was wearing flip-flops, not only unprofessional, but who wants to have hair bits from other people to be stuck on their feet? But I must admit that she was pretty thorough when cutting my hair. read more

I had my first appointment with Diana and she did a beautiful cut but there was a misunderstanding with the color I wanted for my highlights. When I saw people, they'd say 'what highlights?' So I called and Lisa, the manager and one of the partners of the salon, told me she'd take care of me and fix it up for me. I found out that the day of my appointment was gonna snow so I called and Lisa was just like 'come through now!' And she stayed after hours to do my hair. Lisa is wonderful. I had an unfortunate coloring experience at a different salon, which left me with thick, uneven, orangey highlights--and Lisa completely transformed my hair. She lightened the base, added beautiful, evenly spaced highlights and lowlights, and left me with a golden/caramel color. At first, I was afraid the color was too ashy, but I was very wrong--she knows exactly what she's doing. Within a couple of washes, the color set and was exactly what I had wanted--and still is, over a month later! She also gave me a trim, and shaped my hair into a cute bob with side-swept bangs. Lisa really is a master stylist; this was evident both in her speed and efficiency while coloring/cutting, and of course, the final result. Bonus: she's sweet, sincere, and offered drinks and yummy cookies :) I think I've found my hair stylist...finally! read more

I went here because I purchased a Groupon for a haircut, conditioning, and full highlights. My highlights are barely noticeable I am so disappointed. The stylist asked if I wanted thin or thick highlights but she said they always do thin so I trusted her which was a big mistake. I think if they would have been thicker they would at least be noticeable. The haircut I got was ok but nothing special. I asked for 2 highlight colors and also for my hair to be curled so I ended up having to pay $55 extra on top of what I already paid for the Groupon. I feel like the whole thing was such a waste of money. I am giving 2 stars because the stylist was nice and talkative otherwise I would be giving a 1 star rating. read more

I have really long (to my butt) and dead (full of split ends hair). The lady saw my hair and made comments and grunt sounds about my hair. It's like she was already complaining as how to handle my hair. I felt self conscious about it. She just has a mean streak attitude though. Im just not the type of person to go to salon's for my hair. I don't do monthly treatments and etc. Given that, I am already self conscious about how horrible my hair is. However, after a while, she tried to make conversation and we did. I think her name is Diana because the card she gave me had Diana's name on it. It took an hour to finish. My hair is healthy now. It's about my chest length. She chopped half of it which is why she's hesitant. I was not. I was willing to chop off a lot because 70% of my hair is full of split ends. And then, she layered it out.
