During our visit to the salon, I felt disappointed by a comment Lorena made to my 5-year-old daughter. After giving her a lollipop, my daughter didn't say thank you--she's still very young, and we're teaching her how to handle new social situations, especially with strangers. When my daughter didn't say thank you, Lorena responded by saying, "You know you are in the United States, everyone says thank you here." I found that remark insensitive and, frankly, racially charged. It implied that not saying thank you is a cultural issue, when in fact my daughter is simply still learning. As a parent, I work hard to teach her kindness and respect, but also to protect her from comments that may make her feel like an outsider. read more

I've had my haircut by Lili approximately monthly for ~4-5 years now. She handles my curly dense hair very nicely and has good suggestions for fresh updates to my routine groom and style choices. These photos of my haircut are actually from two weeks ago but I'm still so angry about this that I felt like writing it. I was sick of having to move my bangs out of my face and pushing the sides of my hair behind my ears and I didn't feel like spending upon hundreds of dollars just to have my hair dyed purple and then get my roots redone to where they're blonde and then dye them purple as well, and then potentially have the undercut done so basically all I wanted was the undercut shown in photo 1, and I was unwilling to wait until I got home to have the haircut done. So I scheduled a rather hefty last minute appointment as I needed to go to a Nationals game later in the day, and I was paired with Helena, who was supposedly a "Salon Prof. II". When I showered the next day, it looked NOTHING like my hair was supposed to look like in the photo. I even showed her, and she still butchered it. My bangs are just a mess, and the sides were still long. The only kind of cutting she did with a guard was on the back of my neck, so thanks for nothing. If I get the chance to come back to the DC/Virginia/Maryland area, I will never go to this place again. It was a total waste of $40 and I regret giving her a $10 tip. I've gone to Helena a few times and while she tends to cut it too short, she tries to listen. I blame myself for taking an appt with Alice, who's English isn't very good. I ask for 1/2 trim and straight cut in the back. I think she asked if I want it to flip out and I said no, under. She proceeds to flip the hair up at the ends and texturize it. By the time she was done, 2 in. gone. I said don't cut the front and she angles the front layers. I was growing the front to be the same length as the back. Now it is right at shoulder length when it will flip and she texturized it so now the flip is even more accentuated. I'm so angry it is too short to go anywhere else to fix it. I also asked her for light layers for some volume at the top and she didn't do that. The way she came at the ends I didn't want any more cutting...anywhere. Now it is just flat and curls at the ends. If you don't understand your customers, you put them in the uncomfortable spot to have to say No, Stop. I didn't want to be rude but finally said enough, just stop. She kept trying to make it do something the cut just wouldn't allow. I even gave her a tip and crossed my fingers it would look better when I styled it today. No such luck. I've never had the ends look so terrible and unmanageable. Please don't post your standard "help us make it a 5 star experience next time with the about-us form for customer services." That goes to a generic email and I've read all the comments here. Your replies are just generic. I won't be coming back anyway . read more

This is a decent place for my son's haircuts. Unlike him who's got hair, I'm stuck with glare. My goodness the prices have gone up considerably. This was a shock the other day, as while I was happy to tip the stylist, that cost was more than expected. Can't say if other hair cutters have raised their prices, and inflation is something we all are facing. Ouch though. As for the employees all are very polite. They are fantastic with little ones, or my leviathan teenager. Waits aren't long, and for this busy dad that helps. Guys bring your phone or a book. The chairs in the seating area are alright. As for the store they sell a lot of hair care products. Can't say whether a good value or not. This is a good location with plenty of parking. read more

I will never come back to this location. Mathilda cut my hair and completely disregarded the haircut I wanted and cut my hair without my permission. I have been going here for the past few months and all has been fine until today she decided to try to cut my hair and another customer's hair at the same time. I'd give her props for trying, IF SHE DIDN'T CUT MY HAIR OUT OF NOWHERE. What a mediocre experience. We made an appointment with Amy as she gets good reviews here. Don't bother for a kids cut. She did the consultation in the lobby until I requested that we go to her station. She talked to me instead of to my kid when most people these days at least start with the kid and then gets confirmation from the parent. She kept grabbing my child by the arm to direct her instead of just telling her where to go until I requested that she stop touching her. Finally she gave the most mediocre trim. Basically it felt like she was trying to see how little she could get away with doing. Then she spent about 30 seconds blowing her hair basically leaving it wet in the middle of November... I've been going to this salon on and off for the past five years. It's a hit and miss. Last time I got a hair color and during the process my scalp was itchy. My son also goes there for haircuts from time to time. The quality of service is good as the designers heed mom's request. One thing that I dislike is the push toward buying a product at the end of service. Another thing that I loathe was with the addition of the product purchased, the POS system asked you for a tip and the least amount listed there was 20%! so one time I was not very careful and hit the 20% and the machine calculated the tip based on the Total service plus the product amount! I felt cheated! Folks, tipping is only for service, not for items bought. I learned my lesson not to fall to their trick again! read more

I was in a panic (worried about cut and color) Someone mentioned Hanh and I thought I'd start with a cut and was so pleased. I then decided I would get brave a do a much needed color. I booked my appointment online for color, condition, cut and style. My stylist was Lucy and she was great! She helped me get the exactly right color to cover my graying roots/growout. Lucy was careful, thorough, accurate and very pleasant to interact with. Got my lips/brows waxed while my hair was conditioning so that saved a lot of time. I am very happy with the way my hair turned out and would definitely recommend Lucy as a good stylist. It was my first and last time there. I just went to shave my left side. There was a lot of people in there but as soon as check in, they assigned me to a girl who seemed to be new or "a hair stylish student". She didn't know what she was doing. She left my left side with few batches and on my right side which I have medium long hair I asked to even it out a lil so she cut half of it! And on top of all that she wet my hair and the left it messed up so I asked to dry it out and oh my god, she didn't even know how to use the hair brush so I had to ask her to give me the blow drier and brush to do it myself. Men should not go here. I came here cause I needed a last minute hair cut since my usual barber shop was busy. I got my hair cut by Helena and she pretty much tore up my scalp. The hair cut was a 0 all over so not hard at all. But she was in a rush or busy I'm not sure which, but the clippers kept coming straight into my head first not my hair. Terrible service. The salon workers were very rude and not welcoming in the slightest. I went to get my curtain bangs shortened and a short trim + layers to the rest of my hair. It was a simple haircut but the woman who worked on me didn't know what she was doing. The layers were choppy and uneven. The bangs were cut way too short, too thick, and were super choppy. I already had bangs, and all she had to do was shorten them in the same style that they were when I came in, but she couldn't even manage to do that. Very disappointed. read more

I was a walk in customer but had previously gotten my hair cut at this location. For this visit, there were 2 issues I experienced with Nicky: 1. I requested for Nicky to use a diffuser when drying my hair. She informed me that the shop doesn't have diffusers but I can sit under a hair dryer instead. Surprisingly one of her colleague brought over a diffuser. At the end, Nicky used a diffuser to dry my hair. 2. I was not aware that a 20% tip was added onto my bill autoMAGICally btwn the time it was displayed on the store's monitor and the time it showed up on the credit card processing unit. I brought this to the attention of the store manager that I viewed this as a shady practice and just to let her know just in case there will be add'l complaints.
