I exclusively get my hair cut in Buffalo at Tonic Hair Salon, but I was in need of a bang trim and decided I would trust a professional, instead of doing it myself. Big mistake. Once I arrived, there was no friendly greeting, just a sign in, and my hair stylist whom I was not sure if she worked the desk or was my hair stylist told me to follow her. So, I guess she was my stylist. She never introduced herself, or asked me anything about myself. She seemed very young and inexperienced. I showed her a reference photo of how I wanted my bangs (asymmetrical) and she said she understood. If she hadn't, I would have gotten something else. She didn't ask me which way I wanted my bangs or how I part my hair so when she started working from the wrong side, I had to correct her. Not a big deal, but you should ask if you want sides-wept or asymetrical. I have cowlicks and I doubt she even noticed, which is something you need to take into consideration. She started cutting and did it all wrong because she assumed I wanted what she had (looked nothing like the picture). I even showed her multiple pictures of the same model so she could see the bang cut and styled in different ways from different angles. She called over another stylist. At this time, the other stylist wanted her razor and still did not do what I wanted. She actually started to pull other sections from my hair to cut them without consulting me. I had to say to her "You're not planning on cutting that, right?" and she said it should be part of my bangs. I told her not to. I didn't want my hair to be even more messed up and I trust my old stylist enough to know that those very long pieces (I have long hair) should not be part of my bangs. She finished the cut, walked away and the first stylist straightened them and asked me if they were ok. Honestly, they weren't. When I looked at them in my car I saw they were super choppy in a not intentional way. She cut off too much in one section. And she did no layering or point cutting to soften it or make them fuller. It was honestly just like my dad did when I was a child and he is by no means a stylist. I ended up stopping at Wal-Mart and picked up some sheers so I could fix it. It's still not perfect, but it's better than it was. I have learned to just wait to go to my trusted stylist. Also, in terms of atmosphere, the place was nearly dead on a Saturday mid-day. There were only two stylists working. There was a fly that kept trying to land on the coffee that I brought and I kept shooing it away. Not once did either of the stylists apologize about the bug or try to get it away from my coffee. I know I have high standards, but I think everyone should hold themselves to high standards. In an area like this, with very little competition some businesses don't try and do not keep up with industry trends. If you can't even do a bang trim, you shouldn't be a stylist.

The first time I met with Kim, she was offering a free hair treatment with my cut and color. I had never received one before, and it was amazing. She treats my hair as if it was her own. Kim is constantly asking me questions, about my hair, what I have done with it, what I like, what I don't like, she asked me questions to get to know me better and about my lifestyle. By the end, she knows what I want for a hairstyle, before I know what I want! It's AWESOME! I knew after my first appointment that I wanted her to do my hair for my wedding this coming Summer. We have been planning it ever since. She reaches out to me with ideas and tons of pictures. I think she is just as excited as I am...which I really appreciate. Not only does she offer amazing hair styles and hair colors, but she nails the outcome. I have never been disappointed or underwhelmed. I am constantly getting compliments on my newest hairstyle, and usually still getting compliments up until the day I go to see her again! To say she is friendly and kind is an understatement. She cares, shes knowledgeable and uses her technique and education to inform me of the best procedures. I may suggest something and she will explain it in more detail and make sure that it is absolutely what I want. I just recently bought product from her and she wrapped it all up and added a thoughtful card of thanks! She may have started as my hair dresser but she ended up being a wonderful friend!!!

The do not use current cutting trends and never once used the razor scissors so my bangs are heavy and sit awful so I will be finding someone else to fix them. I also asked that they leave the length and I walked out with 3-4" taken off the length when all I wanted was my layers trimmed up and the shortest layer to hit my jaw line. Which is exactly what I told her. She didn't get it there so I said it needed to come up and then she proceeded to cut and took off the length on all my layers. They take cash only which was also annoying. They only got 2 stars because she was nice but I'd rather a rude stylist that cuts well then what I ended up with. I've never had a haircut this bad.

Extremely unprofessional and blatantly rude, I've never heard of a 'tattoo artist' that treated…read morepotential customers so impersonally. This is my partner's most recent experience: I had planned to get a tattoo done right before the Christmas holidays and so made an appointment 3 months in advance. The tattoo I wanted I'd been thinking about getting for quite some time now, and obviously since it's a permanent fixture on my body, I had some specific ideas I wanted to bounce off her. I made time to visit her shop about 3 weeks before my actual appointment to go over some of the details. She listened to what I had to say, but gave the impression that I was not a priority, despite me being the only person in her store. I was a little put off, but left her with some notes on what my ideas were. Two weeks before my appointment, I emailed her with a more concrete idea, some reference images, a description of what I wanted based on these images, and a few questions about her pricing and such. I never received a response from her, and ended up sending another email to her a week later to see if she had ever received the first one. She finally responded saying she had received it, but that she wouldn't start working on the design until closer to my appointment time. She finally reached out to me with questions about my design 48 hours before the scheduled inking. After responding to her questions, she emailed me 20 minutes later with a draft image. I sent back an image with some alterations I wanted and she replied with "I'll get to it tomorrow". The next day rolls around, and she sends me an altered image about 24 hours before my appointment with only one of the five changes I had wanted, and no text accompanying that email. At this point, I'd spoken with the community at large which had unanimously said that this transaction was sketchy at minimum, if not an outright scam. So I responded to her 'updated' image expressing my discomfort, and explaining that I'd rather have someone who cared a bit more about the permanent piece of art I wanted etched into my skin. Her response was that she was "a VERY busy tattoo artist, and routinely did everything last minute." This, needless to say, did not reassure me. She then informed me of her 72 hour cancellation policy. When I confirmed my cancellation and asked how I was supposed to adhere to that policy when she had only reached out to me 48 hours prior, her response was "Happy Holidays" At this point, I'm more disappointed than angry. The tattoo was supposed to be a Christmas gift and I got myself excited about it, but this whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth.
