Went in with high expectations based on reviews, but didn't even go through with a color/appointment just based on my consultation experience alone. Daniel's demeaner was completely short and unwelcoming the entire time. I arrived for my consultation at 6pm to the building doors being locked, and Daniel acted as if it was my fault/I was severely inconveniencing him for coming down to open them for me. I would've happily came earlier if I knew/was notified of that. When I entered the salon, it was just messy and looked gross to be in. The decor is weird and there was a door that said "Tattoo" right in the sitting area? Daniel rushed around without bothering to acknowledge my presense. His assistant/other guy in the salon was so nice and outgoing, but otherwise it was a total cold shoulder and I felt burdensome to him to be there. I will give Daniel credit that he is knowledgable in his craft and he gave feedback based on what I was discussing with him. However, the lack of "salon side manner" will not have me coming again, and I cancelled my appointment. read more

After the elevator goes to 4th floor of the Nortec office building (free parking all around), a simple door at the end of the hallway opens into a most beautiful space! So charming and peaceful, so clean and spacious, with natural light from large windows looking out at trees... just relax and forget about the hustle/bustle outside, enjoy this space and time... After years of covering gray hair every 4-5 weeks, my poor hair turned into a dry, shapeless mess with different shades of colors battling gray and dark roots. Then I found Daniel! First step was to get a real haircut, which included the most wonderful hair wash and head massage by Walter (I felt so pampered!) As I'm on the lazy side when it comes to styling with heat and products, Daniel gave me a low-maintenance haircut that always looks stylish, even on my no-hair-wash days. Second step, 2 weeks later, was to go gray on purpose, with intent (so glad about the current gray blending trends!) Update: Daniel reached out to me following my review and refunded me of the services and even offered to correct and get the color right. There was a very weird mixup with the communication and somehow our messages weren't reaching each other. Finally got in contact with Daniel last week and we sorted everything out. He was very kind and apologetic and took responsibility. Huge turnaround from last year but, it's all good. He is definitely skilled, nonetheless, which is why I chose him in the first place. Just wanted to post an update after 3+ years of seeing Daniel as a client of Revel! First of all, the new salon space is gorgeous. It's fun, trendy and spacious. It's easy to get to, and there is tons of parking. I love the vibe and the hard work he and his team put into the space is so evident. It's beautiful and relaxing. I love it! At my most recent appointment in December, I switched up from my normal blonde balayage and toned it down with a warm bronde/light brown balayage closer to my natural hair color. My color still looks amazing after three months out. Daniel knew exactly what I wanted when I asked for a dimensional darker bronde. I never know the technical ways to describe what I'm after, but Daniel just knows. He's that good, and just so talented as a colorist. My hair vibe is natural looking dimensional color with a flattering cut. Lucky for me, that is Daniel's specialty. At Revel I always get what I ask for. Daniel is amazing at giving me low maintenance cuts and color. I'm confident no one else would be able to color my hair, making it look so fresh and beautiful for months on end, other than Daniel. I get my hair done probably once a year since i am the worst at maintaining. That being said - because i rarely get it done, i am extremely picky and hesitant about who I go to. I actually know a lot of friends/hair stylists around the area, but really wanted to find someone that I could trust. The last time I got my hair done, i went up to NYC and got bayalage - while i was extremely satisfied with my hair last year, I really was not trying to make the trek up to nyc just to get it done again, so it was time again to search for a hairstylist i could trust! Lucky me, I saw my friend Monnia D's review and took a leap of faith. Daniel was able to work around my schedule and I was in the same day to get my hair colored and cut. Mind you, I walked in with "Warmer" (aka ORANGE) tones of color and basically at least 3 inches of completely damaged hair. His private studio is in a compound called "SOLA" so don't be confused when you drive around looking for Revel! Daniel listened to what I wanted - get rid of the brassiness and orange, and something more subtle - i wanted to go lighter for the summer, but nothing too drastic. I got exactly that! He "hair melted", "glazed" and "hair painted" me to an ashy blonde melt that i was asking for! He is meticulous in his cut and color and best of all, SPEEDY. i have had multiple salons where I go to that although I get great results, I end up spending at least 5-7 hours in. He is a fast worker, but extremely meticulous. I am so happy I found my hairstylist (in tysons no less!) and he is so passionate about his work and i left a satisfied camper! not only that, he is FUNNY, genuine and a great person to be around! I'm embarrassed to say how long it's been since I got a haircut. Let's just say it's a very very long time and my hairstyle errs on Cousin Itt from The Addams Family. Needless to say, it was time for a cut. The reason I'm so averse to haircuts is that a good hairstylist is extremely hard to find in the DMV area. I've had my fair share of very expensive, good cuts (not very cost effective) and cheap, horrible butchered cuts (not cost effective either after you have to go get it fixed by said expensive stylist). I'm so glad I discovered Daniel at REVEL Hair Studio because not only are his cuts top notch but he'll help you find a style that really works with you and your hair habits. A few hints to keep in mind: - REVEL is a small, independent studio so needless to say, call Daniel directly to make an appointment. I typically work insane late hours but Daniel was able to fit me at a time that worked for me. His flexibility and styling ability are the top reasons you should go to REVEL. - Be open about what you do (or don't do) with you hair. Not everyone blowdries, flatirons or curls their hair- but Daniel can work with you to figure out what is a great cut for your hair habits. He did an in-depth consultation of how I style my hair (wash and go!) and we talked about length and what style would look nice when it grows out. He did a very thorough shampoo and talked through what he was doing during the entire process. - The salon is in the back of the building- look for the Sola Salons sign and find REVEL inside! Overall, this was hands down the best salon experience you'll have in the DMV. I didn't feel like I was just a name on an appointment list and that they had to get me in and out the door quickly. Just got home from a haircut with Daniel. He did an AMAZING job: great at listening to what I want, gave me some options I hadn't thought of and was a perfectionist. This is a special salon ladies! Once inside, Walter washes your hair, but it's not like a typical salon wash. It's a 10+ minute head massage (as well as a shampoo)--he's a PRO, prepare to be relaxed when he's done! When I went in to see Daniel I had these horrible super streaky high contrast highlights and lowlights that I HATED. I've been looking for the best stylist in the Tyson's Corner area and I am so happy to have found this place. Daniel immediately picked up when I called the number listed and was able to fit me into his schedule on the same day. The haircut I received LOOKS GREAT. Daniel is BY FAR the most METICULOUS stylist I have ever had! He took the time to make sure that the bangs, layers and sides were perfect. My hair is also damaged from previous chemical treatments and he was able to remove most of it while keeping my length. I have thick Asian hair that is very heavy and I left the salon with textured hair that felt light as a feather. I'm super happy with the end result and can't wait to come back to get my highlights for the summer! I wanted to update that thanks to Daniel, after twenty years I am now wearing my hair curly again. I have naturally curly hair and since the invention of flat irons I have worn my hair straight, as I was never able to get the right cut to have them fall right. It is very rare to find a stylist that is able to do this. When I tried to wear it curly earlier this week I couldn't believe that they were falling so beautifully! As a happy repeat client who gets a haircut and highlights every 2/3 months, I would highly recommend Daniel to both men and women! I have a tendency to go way too long between hair cuts and stylings, so my visit to Revel Salon meant I had plenty for Daniel, the stylist, to play with. His small studio salon was an easy five minute walk from the Spring Hill metro in Tysons, which was essential for me since I don't own a car. My hair is notoriously difficult and wiry, and I often feel that making it look good is a challenge for most hair-cutters. We spoke at length before and even during the process about what could be done for me. We chose to undergo a Brazilian Keratin treatment to relax it and let it flow long and smooth, a look I have always envied in others. The whole process was a breeze; he probably does several of these every week. Daniel applies the keratin, followed by a wash and dry cycle. The blisteringly hot flat iron he wields is rendered harmless by his swift, blurry hand movements. The results took me aback. I loved how my hair cupped my head and tickled my neck. Yes, I think this works for me. That was a few months ago. I know that I won't want to let it grow too long for much longer since it all grows out fairly, shall we say, unevenly (thanks, genetics). In any case, I've gone back to see Daniel at Revel Salon in the meantime and I plan to go back again soon to see what new look we can do next. read more

Fantastic! I ran across Daniel because my stylist was booked. I've been going to a high-end salon and with the same stylist since 1998 - trained by the couture and best schools in Europe and the U.S., and they stay current in the latest techniques. I also have a separate color specialist whom I've been going to since about 2002 who is fantastic. I have been to other stylists who also do color over the years for less costly "maintenance" and rarely returned because the cut and color may look good when leaving the salon, but they rarely last. The signature of a good cut and color is how they grow out and last, and Daniel is the first stylist who's work I was happy with both walking out of the salon as well as months later. I really wanted to write a great review after reading all the other great ones but unfortunately I was not happy after leaving his shop. My hair was burnt, I felt the heat through the Saran Wrap and my clothes.. So that's how you know it was hot! He was very nice about it and offered to trim my hair, I accepted. In the end he told me he wouldn't charge me for the the hair coloring (Yea, I wouldn't have paid that either way) but the cost of a trim was $80.00 which I find is ridiculous.
