The last time they did a poor job cleaning up his hair line in the back and he had weird little patches of hair on his neck. He also had hair all over him. A little is expected but this was just not a good job of dusting him off before she sent him off. She seemed in a hurry maybe, she was 10 min behind when she started his cut. read more

What a great find! I wear a traditional flat top. No tapering angles on the sides, no weird Vanilla Ice length on top. Short and level is all I ask for. Believe it or not, it is very difficult to find a Barber that can accomplish this well. Rachel is one of the few who can pull this off. Not only did she accomplish this, she did it free hand. Usually the barbers are using extra wide combs, bouncing back-and-forth, left and right trying to get it level (mostly not succeeding). After a day or two I can spot a few strays that the Barber missed that i cut off myself. It has been a week no strays. Great job Rachel!! Another gem about this place, it is about half the price of the local Surfshop/ Barbershop and a better cut. read more

I didn't think I was going to the butcher but needless to say that's how my hair came out looking. I've gone here for a few years but frankly my last experience did it in for me. The lady I saw there was incredibly rude and frankly one of the absolute worst barbers I've ever come across. She shook my head when it wasn't straight without asking me, and im not talking a pat, i mean pressed her fingers into my temples and shook it out of what seemed like frustration, all because she was having a bad day. Even if someone was constantly bobbing their head like Stevie wonder you still don't do that. I came to relax not get treated like a beat dog. The haircut itself was absolutely abysmal, it came out looking like someone stuffed my hair into a paper shredder. Furthermore she was constantly coughing into her hands. The owner, Michelle does a good job, some workers there do a good job...but there's no way I can go back to a place where the business allows for this sort of treatment of it's customers. So saw good reviews so I took my husband here. The girl literally skipped cutting part of his because she didn't know how to cut a calic. Today, I had my first truly great haircut in the Santa Cruz County, by Michelle at "The Harry Chair" in Soquel. I can say this because when I moved to Aptos CA, twelve years ago, I continued to drive to my home town of San Jose, CA to have my hair cut. I am an older man but I still care about how my hair is cut and how it looks on my head. After moving to Aptos it took me some time (many years) to transfer to our local professionals. This area has excellent medical, dental and legal professionals. However, a good skilled barber was hard for me to find. I have had many haircuts in the Santa Cruz County over the past seven years. Some have been ok, some not so ok and some were just terrible. With that rolling around in my head I entered "The Harry Chair". I was greeted by Michelle and after being seated I tried my best to describe the cut I wanted for my head. She really listened to what I was saying and after asking a few questions began lightly cutting my hair. Michelle would stop and ask if what she had cut was what I dad described. This went on throughout my haircut. She would ask and I would reply she was able to adjust my haircut when I expressed concern. That is exceptional because normally I would need to live with a mistake until my next haircut. In addition to providing me an outstanding haircut. She was constantly keeping my hair clippings off the apron or my shoes. I've been clean shaven - head and face - for a decade. Recently I had a surgery on my spine which left a gnarly scar on my neck. I decided to start growing my hair and a beard to offset the scar. After a couple of Months it was time for my first haircut in forever. I spent a couple of hours looking for local barbers and reading reviews. I landed on "The Hairy Chair" based on reviews, convenience and the fact that they are one of the few shops open on Mondays. After a short wait I had the good fortune of meeting Raquel. I explained my situation and asked if she was comfortable working around my surgery scar. Thankfully she was! Raquel took the time to listen to me and express empathy and care. Her actions also demonstrated care as Raquel treated me like an individual who was here for much more than a routine trim. Based on the previous yelp reviews I thought I would give it this place a try. I walked in on Saturday after calling and Rudy telling me he takes walks in. Very cool decor but far from a "barber shop". Which I was looking for when I asked about getting a hair cut, beard trim clean shave up. Both chairs were occupied so I took a seat, I was really hoping to try Rudy but he had another person waiting and was in the middle of a cut. When the women(Rachel) finished her guy Rudy asked if I wouldn't that chair, I politely refused and said I would wait for Rudy. He said Rachel is fine with hair cuts and beards. Sadly that was far from the truth. My experience with Rachel was extremely awkward and disappointing! She struggled to fade my hair and made multiple comments about how difficult my hair is and that she doesn't really do good fades. It No attention to detail at all and and she had no clue how to do a line up or faded in the beard. She had no idea how to even start to trim a beard let alone do an actual barber shop style shave. She butchered my beard and didn't clean it up at all. But honestly after the fade fail on my hair, I really didn't want her to touch my beard! She took the most awkward positions, dragging the cord across my face instead of standing on the other side. At one point she said I am just gonna freehand it and stood in front of me bent over trying to guess how much beard to trim! So I quickly ended the cut paid her and left. But my beard looks horrible now! I didn't feel the need to comment on the service or ruin Rachel's day but Rudy knows or should know that he shouldn't reference people to her chair if they need a fade and beard trim/ shave. I'll never be back and u should keep checking if u need a good cut and beard trim. read more

I used to get my haircut here as a kid and have only recently returned thanks to the addition of a new barber named Travis. Travis does a great job of blending the classic barbershop style with various modern looks. He is a top-notch barber who is truly proud of his craft, always taking his time and striving to improve on my haircuts each time I stop by. He offers an extremely reasonable price for a quality cut. I went their for a simple buzz cut. The man was very nice and talkative but did not pay any attention to the hair cut. My hair looked extremely sloppy, patchy and I had rows of untouched hair! Based on Yelp I gave the Hairy Chair a shot. I asked Rudy just to make me presentable again, with a nice Engineer's cut, something neat and tidy. And that's just what he did. My wife was very well pleased, to say the very least, and so was I. She suggested that I schedule an appointment in September, when we'll return to SC for a wedding. I believe I'll do just that.
