Racist, unfriendly, no menu prices, and overcharged 10 for chicken over rice. Terrible service and small portions. Hope they close down!

I have become a big fan of Mexican Food Trucks and a couple of days ago I found La Perla Mexicana…read moreon West 14 St and Washington St in the Meatpacking area. As I approached La Perla I was hit with the aroma of good cooking. You know that loving feeling of spices in the air, meats being grill and eager customers waiting for their tasty goodies. Sold. Ready to order and eat. I judge Mexican Food Trucks by their tacos. If they can't cut it here, then they need to go back to the drawing board and La Perla did not disappoint. My standard test is ordering a carne enchilada taco. Their version is an over stuff taco with well marinated beef, top with onions, cilantro and liquid guca to accentuate their carne enchilada. Delicious. Their focal point of this authentic Mexican taco was the carne enchilada, not the toppings. It should be plentiful with meat, tender and well seasoned. In Spanish we call it "SABOR', flavor. La Perla has it down, a HOME RUN. Overall, I don't know if this is a new location for La Perla Mexicana since they have a restaurant by that name on Mott Ave in the Bronx., but if your in the area and looking for tasty authentic tacos, check it out. I think you will be a happy camper. Enjoy.

I'm not sure if I've seen it before and just kept on walking or actually never noticed it, but I'm very glad I tried it. Holy crap! I was raving about the tacos to my coworkers all afternoon, they probably think I'm some obsessed taco freak now. This is not one of those fancy fusion, chipotle crema using food trucks with newfangled twists on Mexican that are so ubiquitous these days. This is the real deal. The address on the side of the truck boldly lists Corona, Queens as its home, so these aren't some young upstarts who have migrated from the Midwest to get in on the action. Yesterday, the truck was being operated by one guy, and he was quick. I ordered 3 tacos, which came out piping hot, loaded with meat, salsa, guac and cilantro. Great portions and for $8, I don't think you're going to find a better deal. I had the al pastor, grilled chicken and carne asada. All were very tender and flavorful, in perfect bite-sized pieces to allow for expeditious devouring. They also offer cemitas, tortas and burritos. The tacos I had were so enjoyable, I can't imagine ordering anything else, but it's good to know that I can. This place is a big win, highly recommended. I'll definitely be back!

We arrived at the pier around 1:00 PM and finished eating by 2:00 PM. When we went to collect bags for our food, a staff member at the wristband booth stopped my friend because he did not have a wristband. My friend was unaware of the wristband requirement, as he had been sitting with us the entire time. Previously, another staff member had passed by our table to clear empty bowls and did not mention or inquire about the missing wristband. When my friend told the staff member at the booth that he had been sitting with us the situation escalated. The staff member became belligerent, raised his voice, and clearly became upset with my friend's explanation. The staff member explained that he hadn't seen my friend's wrist because I was blocking the view, which was why no previous warning had been given. He then loudly stated that everyone at the pier is aware that you must have a wristband. Note: My friend did hand over his ID with no issues and got his wrist band from the staff member. At that moment, I felt the staff member was becoming physically aggressive. To avoid confrontation, I advised my friend to walk away. As we did, the staff member shouted, "Yeah, you better walk away." This behavior was unprofessional, intimidating, and made us feel unsafe. We came to Pier13 expecting a welcoming environment, but instead experienced aggression from your staff. I ask that you investigate this incident and take appropriate measures to prevent such conduct in the future. I strongly believe this staff member at the booth is a danger to the people at the pier, especially elderly and children.
