I thought Los Tacos No. 1 was going to be all hype and no substance since it's so popular with tourists, but I have to admit I was wrong. We ordered one of each type of taco plus an extra steak quesadilla so we could try everything, and I was surprised by how good the tacos were. Everyone's favorite was the adobada (al pastor), which was juicy, smoky, and packed with flavor and came with a couple strips of pineapple. The nopal was surprisingly delicious too, soft and well seasoned, and the chicken was much better than I expected. Only complaint was that the tortillas weren't as fresh as I was expecting. However, we had them again at the Midtown East location and they were way better there, so maybe we just caught a bad batch. Tacos were around $6 each, more expensive than a lot of spots back home in LA, but pretty comparable to places with larger tacos. You order and pay at the counter, hand your ticket to the taco staff, and they'll assemble your tacos for you. You can get them with all the toppings, which includes onion, cilantro, guac, and salsa or customize how you want. These tacos are absolutely worth trying.

Tacos were good! Plus they serve you enough protein with guacamole at no extra charge. They also give you extra spring onions/chive and a green chili. I recommend nopal tacos. The tamarind water was too sweet for me so next time I'll order a different flavor. Overall, a solid place for a quick bite. Plus everyone is super nice and chatty!l

I'm still thinking about this taco. I tried the beef taco and their chips and salsa. From one gringo to another - that salsa is spicy. It was very flavorful and they used fresh ingredients. I thought the amount of meat you are served was great. Tired my sister's guac and it was very limey - I loved it. Next time I'm back in the area I'm headed here first. I also tried the beef quesadilla layer on during my stay. It was basically an open taco with added cheese. Very tasty, just not what I was expecting.

PSA: ORDER THE FRIED QUESADILLA WITH ADOBADA!! We have amazing adobada tacos on the west coast, but this was different! We went to Los Tacos No 1 4 times on our trip! LOL It was worth it every time! The line is always long but it goes by fast bc the staff work so well with each other and they never forget who ordered what! The first time we just got the taco, but a local in line ordered the special Fried Quesadilla with Adobada and he said it is "immaculate"- and he was definitely right!! Crispy fried tortilla, stretchy cheese, soft inside with lotssss of adobada and pineapple. Be careful, it's pretty spicy but deliciousss! Adobada is out by 6pm everyday- we literally walked from location to location bc they ran out of adobada.. lol I know... so go early!!!

I'd say Los Tacos No. 1 was my favorite while visiting New York and my two visits here is a great indicator. First visit, enjoyed the carne asada taco with everything on it and chips y salsa. Second visit, shared the carne asada quesadilla with everything on it. Both times hit so good! Chips y salsa were a nice addition and salsa I thought was flavorful, not spicy. It was packed both times, but service was efficient and quick. I'd say a definite must visit for me if/when I return to New York someday. I love the music playing in the restaurant.... Keeps it very lively.

Ordering was smooth, food is amazing, and it's great you can see it make it in front of you! The carne asada had a nice Smokey flavor to it and adobada had a good saltiness to it and it balanced very well with the 2 slices of pineapple. Service was good. It was in a food court.

3.5, rounding to 4 because of Yelp - Born and raised in Southern California, so I'm quite critical of both price point and taste. At almost $6 a taco for street size bites (I think you need at least 3-4 to be full), it's a little steep but keep in mind you're in NYC and they do add guac to your taco. I ordered one carne asada and one adobada with everything. The carne asada was my favorite which was shocking because usually adobada or al pastor is more flavorful and juicier. But the carne asada here was actually a great quality of meat and quite tender to what I'm used to! Adobada was just way too salty for my liking. I ended up getting some pico de gallo on the salsa bar way off to the end to offset the saltiness. Service was fine. Super quick, just give your ticket to the staff and tell them what kind of tortilla and toppings. Limes were at the ordering counter but the salsa bar was toward the cashier which was a little strange! Salsa bar was minimal: just two types of roasted salsa, pico de gallo, radishes, and some dried whole chilis that I've never seen before / am not sure how to eat. If you're looking for a snack or a street taco craving and you're not based on the west coast, I think Los Tacos is worth trying, but I can't help but compare this to tacos back in California...

Phenomenal tacos! I absolutely adore the green sauce! Have been here a couple times and it never disappoints! Usually a line but it typically moves pretty fast. Have tried the chicken quesadilla as well as the steak and pork tacos. Quesadilla was open faced which was interesting... basically a taco with cheese... but I'm not complaining. Everything is great, I think I like the chicken/pork better than the steak but you really can't go wrong. If you give Los Tacos a try make sure to drop by Los Mariscos as well which is right around the corner for the best fish tacos and ceviche! While I do love the green sauce on the Los Tacos tacos, I am partial to fish and slightly prefer Los Mariscos. They are both excellent! Overall, I would highly recommend Los Tacos and will definitely be returning!

Yes, it's worth the hype. I only got one since I wanted to save room for other things at the market, but I regret not going again. They didn't skimp out on the meat and the salsas were incredible

As a huge market fan we stopped hearing after hearing about how amazing these tacos were! The line was long, so I left my partner to wait while I checked out a sample sale! He had just gotten our tacos when I arrived! We sat at the bar next door to enjoy a beer with our food!! When I tell you these tacos were MOUTH WATERING I mean it!! We loved them so much we went to two other locations!! Wild, I know!! The salsa bar is amazing, but test them first, one was a bit too spicy for me!!

One of the recommended place to eat when googled for best food in New York so gotta try it out. Before we came to the location, we didn't realized it's a chain with many locations in New York but maybe it is the closest one to midtown where we were staying. It is located inside a market hall somewhere in the middle. There is very limited seatings but right next to it are 2 bars that welcome you to eat if you buy a drink. Luckily people don't spend hours eating tacos so we were able to find a corner spot pretty fast. So if you get a seat, just remember others are waiting too so don't spend hours taking up a spot. Walk around and shop! Even though there was a line, it moved pretty fast. I don't think we waited longer than 30'mins. After leaving this location, we saw many other locations nearby that did not have a line. This one did because it's located inside a food market with a lot of tourists and people to begin with. You order at the counter first and give the receipt to the cook where you can modify your taco like with onions or no onions etc. They have a self serve condiments in the corner for sauces and other toppings. The tacos are small but they do load up the fillings as pictured. For new York, the price and portion seem reasonable. Taco is fresh and good since they make it as you order it which is nice. Although, compared to a lot of other taco places, it's not that much more extravagant for a wait in line. If there's no line, I would get another taco next time in now. Besides tacos, they of course have other entrees but we don't know what it is called. I did see a few others get things that look pretty appetizing so looking to try other things next time as well.

Best tacos ever. I was told this place had the best tacos but never really believed it nor tried it even when I came here before because the line just seemed too long. Well, this time, I stood in the line and tried the carne tacos...it came with house guac and they also had salsa to add if you want- it was amazing!!! My husband got the cactus taco and even he enjoyed it (normally veg tacos aren't the best). We enjoyed the tacos so much that we went back 30 mins after finishing the tacos!!! We were debating whether to get more because we already had dinner reservations at 6 and it was 2 or 3 when we got the tacos. Worth it. Got the pork one this time and still tasty! The carne/steak was the best though ...it was so smoky and juicy ...wow. Service was faster than expected. Ambiance is busy...small space, no place to eat really but you can find seats in the other areas of the market. We went outside and ate since there weren't many people eating outside.

Been wanting to try this place for a long time, so luckily we were able to try it! We waited about 10 minutes - you order first then give your ticket to the staff and they make your tacos fresh. You get to choose which kind of tortilla (flour or corn), if you want everything on the tacos (onions, cilantro, salsa and guac). The tacos are great, my husband and I enjoyed the adobada more than the asada, would definitely come back!

Where can I get catering information?

Hi Jessica. Here is a link to their website catering page. https://www.lostacos1.com/store/catering/. You can place an order here as long as you give them 24 hours notice.

    Do they do Taco Tuesday?

    No always the same price

How do I get Los Tacos delivered?

Hi Bailey, thank you for inquiring. We only offer a delivery option for catering orders with a minimum of 30 people.

Do they cater to Gluten free?

Yes, just make sure you request the corn tortillas and you're good to go.

    Is the meat halal?

No It's mostly beer, steak, chicken and pork.

Is this restaurant currently open? Is it closed due to COVID-19

    Open

Do they still serve cheese shell tacos?

They only told me they had flour, corn and flower !!! So I don't know if they have it

What is the least busiest, best time to come and order?

Probably the pre-lunchtime hour. After that it will be busy all day until the evening. I was there on a Monday around noon and there was a huge line. But.. don't let that scare you away. It moves very fast!

What time to the serve the breakfast burritos?

Any time is a good time !!

Is the restaurant large enough for 9 people to have a group dinner?

this is not a restaurant. its more of a taco stand in a market. you can have a group of 9 and just order at the counter, but theres no tables for a group of 9.

    Can we order takeout?

    Yes

Get your drink there and a slip with your food items on it. Take the slip to the next counter where they prepare it. They're masters at it so they're cranking out a taco probably every 15 to 20 seconds. There's a line of workers operating the grills to get the meat and tortillas ready for the prep guys. So efficient. No seats. You stand and eat which really keeps the turn over rate high. The inside is no frills. Standing room only to eat your tacos and exit. The food is so good. $6 a taco but it's NYC. Love everything about this place and I try to frequent it for a quick bite as often as I can.

The birria tacos were really good (or so my son said) but sadly the taquitos were terrible. They literally just had unseasoned shredded chicken (but serves me right for ordering something so basic). The energy was flat, and that lack of enthusiasm carried right into the food. The menu needs a complete overhaul. I'm not sure if it's trying to be "different," but the taco options were unappealing just from reading the descriptions. I managed to choose the two best-sounding items I could find, and honestly, they were so bland I don't even remember what they were. The setup and decor were basic. This spot could be a fun hangout, but it would take a better menu and staff who actually seem to care. It feels like just another restaurant that's lost sight of creating an actual experience for guests. The lack of vibe is obvious--if you don't want customers, just say so. I'm giving 2 stars out of respect for the fact that people have to work for a living.

I didn't see any but saw buckets for umbrellas. I opted not to leave it there since I didn't wanna forget or risk someone taking it. I took it upstairs with me. My friend had arrived and was seated. Apparently, they do offer sleeves because she got one. But the 3 people who were at the hostess booth failed to offer me one. The beautiful ambiance will get your attention immediately. It is a stunning space. The tableware was gorgeous as well. We waited for our last friend to arrive who was almost half an hour late before ordering (we thought she'd arrive sooner). Our server, Matias was gracious about it the whole time. What we ordered: Drinks: Passionfruit Margaritas & Mojito - we were happy with them. Tlayudas, Guacamole y Salsas - this was really good and a great option for the table to share. The homemade chips alone were excellent. Liked all the different dips. Guac could've used some cilantro and more acid/spice. Tán Ceviche - I loved this. Super fresh and great flavor. Could use a touch of acid. My entree was the Shrimp & Crab Enchiladas - This was pretty good. The sauce could've used some spice and some acid to cut through the richness. My friend ordered the Yellow Corn Soup as part of her meal and she did not like it. She said it was too sweet which I thought was strange. I tried a spoonful and I agreed with her. It needed a savory note and again, acid would've done wonders. Also, the crab was a bit fishy in this. She enjoyed her tamal though. I tried a touch of the sauce and it was delish. My other friend had the Quesabirria which she was also happy with. To sum up: Ambiance: 5/5 The space is undoubtedly gorgeous. Food: 4/5 Beautiful presentation on everything but each dish lacks an element or two to make it a home run. Staff: Wait staff 5/5. Downstairs staff (greeters/hostess) 4/5. Needs to be more on point like offering customers sleeves for umbrellas or pointing out the buckets to put them in. At some point through our entrees a group of 3 women were doing a 10-minute photo shoot by the stairway where our table was. Absolutely inappropriate behavior and a manager should've stopped it. Camera flashes all up in our faces while we're eating wasn't cool. Overall, still a great elevated Mexican cuisine option. The slight tweaks would make this a 5 star place for me. I'd return to try more things.

Personally, if it wasn't for the drinks and the space, I cant say this place is worth it - you're not coming here for the food. Another little complaint I have is the women's restroom on the second floor - right by the door is a floor to ceiling mirror which I understand was included to make the space seem bigger, but my friends and I agreed that it is a little misleading - I kept wanting to walk into it thinking there was more space there and not wall.
