This place is absolutely amazing. Incredibly diverse grocery offerings and many produce items you'd never find anywhere else (fresh green olives, fresh dates and sweet lemons). Beautiful selection of middle eastern cheeses and any masala blend you could imagine. There is a shawarma grill in the store too. While they do open 10-ish, I would recommend waiting until 12 noon to expect any shawarma plates or sandwiches. read more

I shop here about once every week to 10 days. We purchase chicken and meat for several individuals. We always get a custom cut order and they do a fabulous job. Items are always fresh and staff is friendly. Large selection of Arabic foods, small Gyro restaurant with always fresh meats and veggies, delicious. This is a neat store to visit and I go there for specific things. I'm a big lamb fan and you can get lamb chops here at a better price than anywhere else I've found. You can also get lamb shanks but they are a lot smaller than the Colorado lamb you can get at Central Market. Of course, you can get the less common cuts, brains, eyes, etc. Still, if you want to find lamb or goat in Arlington, you don't have many choices but this isn't a bad choice. Spices....oh the spices. So you go to Target and get a tiny tin with 4 grams of a spice you want for a recipe and you pay $6.99. OR, you go to Halal Import Food Market and find the same spice for $9.99....for a bag that weighs half a pound. It's really amazing how you can get spices in volume and quality for not much money here. The spice aisle has a ton of spices and they're crazy cheap. If you want tahini or pre-packaged spice mixes for an Indian dish, there are more options than I've seen anywhere. They have lots of breads like naan and the spongy Ethiopian stuff (don't know what it's called). I haven't bought them before because of the time that I usually seem to show up, but they have grilled Iraqi Kabobs that smell amazing. I don't know what's in them (I'd guess lamb) but when they've got them fresh, the smell drives you wild. I'd like to try the restaurant. Those are the plusses and make it worth visiting. Now the negative. Maybe this is what a middle eastern grocery store is supposed to be like, but it's not terribly clean. I'm accustomed to spotless grocery stores and this one has boxes and stuff just laying around where people haven't restocked well. Inside, it looks aged like an old grocery store, which it is. They should focus a little on merchandising and trying to make things look cleaner. It's cluttered and too many things have standing dust on them. We keep going back, though. Worth a try if you're looking for lamb or spices you're having a tough time finding elsewhere. If you want to make your own rubs, you can get bulk spices here for a great price. Usually I go here to get goat meat, and probably some Indian groceries while I'm there. And I go here because it is very close to where I live , where I can get goat meat. The meat section can do with a face lift and some hygiene. When I ask them for some meat, As Teresa rightly mentioned in her review, you will need some gloves if you don't want to dirty yourself with blood. Other than that, the cleanliness in the store is at best what you would expect in an auto mechanic shop. Just too much dust and debris lying around for a grocery store. Having said that, I do like the variety of products they carry. I get some European chocolates while I'm there. You don't find them in your regular Walmart/Target sort of grocery stores. They also do have a "restaurant" section which I cant speak for because I haven't eaten there. As far as customer service goes... I did not expect much and I didn't get any, to be honest.Its probably a culture thing, but the cashier ladies almost never makes eye contact with the customers. I shouldn't comment on it if its a culture thing, but that doesn't make me comeback for another visit(unless i really need to go). If you ignore the cleanliness and the customer service part you can go there to get some good meat, and probably some good selection of international groceries. A good place for variety and all the ingredients a serious cook would need including some uncommon spices. As far as the customer service, don't expect any because you won't get any. The guy who owns this place seems to have a knack for hiring the worst employees. I'm not talking about the women cashiers and I don't need eye contact from them as some others reviewer have noted they need but didn't get from women cashiers. I'm not there to chit chat or gaze in to their eyes or have staring contest with them. When it comes to cashiers, I care more about speed & accuracy. So cashiers I don't mind. I'm talking about the numerous workers walking around the store who do absolutely nothing and seem to have zero knowledge of any product or its location in the store. I'm not sure why they have a job and why they're getting paid or who manages/monitors them. They just walk around or stand around talking to other workers. They try to "look" busy by picking up some items from a shelf and then walking around with those items for few minutes and putting them back in exact same spots. Also the people hired for cleaning, organizing & pricing are all failing miserably at their jobs. It's incredibly annoying when items are not priced clearly and there's no way to find the price except to go to register. Obviously, they don't have a price checker. I like to know the prices before I reach register. Whoever is in charge of putting stickers of prices on product must think their job is only one price sticker per day on one item only. But there are tons of people hired to work there. I don't know why the owner doesn't hire 5 good workers instead of 20 bad workers. Anyway, it's a good place to get ingredients for your international cooking & pita breads if you don't need customer service. read more

They could clean it up a bit. The picture in this site look good but when I go there, the place is a mess. It is very crowded and unorganized. I don't mean any harm, I just want them to be more clean since they are suppose to more so than local american store. They could learn to put items on sale and bring down the price. Rice and some items are more expensive there than in Kroger or Walmart. Fruit is not cheap and it looks very messy. They take their customers for granite. I've been shopping at this market on a bi-weekly basis for almost 6 years. Prices are usually lower than supermarkets and the choices available in the fresh produce selection are amazing. I buy my feta and walnuts at the cheese and dried fruit counter from the lovely Syrian lady from Damascus who is very friendly and the two of us have even exchanged recipes. I am amazed reading some of the reviews mentioning people being unfriendly, that certainly has never been my experience. The ladies at the cash registers are always friendly and ask if I found everything I needed. Several times I have been unable to locate specific items and these ladies have always managed to find someone to go fetch whatever it is I asked for. I adore the bakery bread, especially those lovely Iraqi round breads made on site. I buy all my British and Saudi import foods here, and I especially enjoy the imported deep green Olive Oil from Lebanon and the heavier more fruity-tasting one from Cyprus. I cannot say enough good things about my shopping experiences here and over the years have introduced several close friends who are all now regular shoppers.I cannot imagine any of the employees I have come to know being anything but courteous and friendly. read more

My family has been going to the market for years and suddenly they have been cheating us with their bread by selling it burnt. What's funny is that they put the burnt bread in the bag and conceal it in a way where you only see the normal (unburnt) side. Absoultly tired of buying burnt bread for the 10th time. I wouldnt suggest anyone to buy their bread! It's absolutely awful how they hide it from their customers. Also wouldn't suggest buying any of their expired food. Watch out for that! read more

I am very pleased with this store. The place is clean, well-stocked with a wide variety of items, pleasant and inviting to shop in, and the produce and meat are fresh and appetizing. The prices were cheaper than other similar stores in the Arlington/Irving area, and the specials are extra special! Customer service was fine, courteous, and professional.
