This place sees me almost daily because there's just too many books to read and too many wonderful things to find out about their half price books. I am on a retreat to find as many band books as I possibly can and read them the band books from the library in the schools And the band books that are government is trying to censor us from what they have them there half price books and their employees are so nice. I would go over and over to half-price books I love them. I'm not only get banned books there. I get books for my grandkids records CDs toys puzzles and more. They have a wonderful place to park. The store is inviting clean. I just can't say enough about half-price books. read more

I always come out with more than I initially came in for and at a great price. I usually have a set budget and am happy with the amount of books I am able to get that fit within that. I do hope they get in more carnivore related reads in their health section. I found one recently and it was so interesting I am excited to read more. Checkout is friendly and I leave excited to read my new to me books! I have noticed a variety of puzzles scattered across the building that are beautiful. I had the WORST experience a few days ago. I'm an avid reader, usually reading a few books a week and have been a customer of Half Price Books for years. I decided to get rid of my 600+ books, so decided to sell them to 1/2 Price Books. I called to make sure I didn't have to make an appointment, and if not, to see if there was a good time to come. The lady that answered said there wasn't a particular "good" time, so I went down and unloaded my 600+ books. By this time my back was spasming. There were two people ahead of me, and after about 45 minutes, they called me back. Not to give me a quote, but to tell me they were starting to prepare an estimate. TWO HOURS later, they quoted me $3 and some change!!! For over 600 books! That's not even .01c a book! These were not damaged books, they were in near perfect condition. The reason they gave me was they were no longer relevant authors and out dated. They made me wait over TWO HOURS! They could have told me MUCH earlier that I was wasting my time. I was in too much pain to take them back. I don't understand the whole "outdated" thing. These are books! The stories are still entertaining and well written. I wasn't expecting much, but this was insulting! I will NOT BE GOING BACK. read more

I did a test run of trying to sell some comics at this place. I knew obviously that it is a business so they have to make a profit to sustain themselves and pay their workers but I didn't expect to feel smacked in the face with their insulting offer. I brought in somewhere between 500-700 comics that I normally sell at conventions in my dollar or $5 bins. Keep in mind, these books are priced to sell. Books that are marked for $1 are usually valued between $2 and $5. Books that are marked at $5 are always between 6 and 10 in value. After wasting an hour or so of my time, they offered me $89 and some change. Hell no! I'm not gonna let them make, at minimum, 6x-7x off of me selling them each as dollar books, nevermind pricing them by value or even cover price. Ya'll can go jump off a cliff for that mess. read more

It's good for buyers, but NOT for sellers. Whether you're bringing in junk or high quality in demand products get ready to see them treated equal by the buying counter! The reason it's so frustrating, is that two of them (the bald fellow and the young man with super long curly hair) do a good job, and actually give you a somewhat fair offer where you don't feel so gutted. There is a woman who works back in the buying area who does a good job as well, though seems on the verge of panic with every breath and lack of control seems to send the whole department into stress and chaos. However, the Gosh Gadd looking kid who clearly never worked a "real job" like the rest of us at McDonalds has to do a comedy special for his co-workers spending hours to go through what you've brought it only to make you the most insulting disgusting offer you could imagine. I needed those pennies yesterday, or I wouldn't have taken them. But because I'm an old man now, and no longer one of these 'precious young people' (what a joke) I"m not allowed to complain or protest. Also, the amount of "RULES" these days is just staggering and over the top. Do this, don't do that...etc....you literally feel 'detained' as opposed to 'quietly waiting'. The wait times are outrageous, with my shortest being 45 minutes for a small pile and 90 minutes for one of comparable size. Most items being sealed in box with bar codes easy for them to scan and look up. When I see action figures I sold them for .50 cents being resold by them for $12 to $15 and even then, they don't stay on the shelf long, well, it's not good for your long term goals. They days of merchants offering as little as they can vs. how much they can, ended years ago and is the reason why those i.e. 'record stores, comic shops, book stores, etc...went out of business even though those hobbies are bigger than ever. I needn't say more. Eventually the long wait times, entitled employees who don't realize how lucky they are not to be shoveling manuer, and insulting payments for quality items is going to insure their inventory becomes less and less and less desirable. Everyone is after Beatles records, no is after Barry Manilow records. And it's starting to show! read more

It was a dark and stormy night.... Okay, so it was warm and starry, but it was night nonetheless. I was on a hunt for a previous edition of a textbook and an unsuccessful trip to the Lynnwood store led me to this branch. Parking was a bit of a challenge because they share the lot with several restaurants, including Olive Garden. But, I found parking that was just shy of Rock Star and entered the store. It is a large store that has that intoxicating booky smell, with the enticing lure of words on pages and books screaming, "Read me." But, I was on a mission. I went to the shelf and found the book I was looking for, but D'oh, it was the wrong edition. I went to the gentleman behind the counter who was nice enough to check the inventory of other stores. Now, I just came from the Lynnwood store where they basically said they didn't have it and that was it, so it was refreshing to have this gentleman check for me. I made a call to the Capital Hill store and was on my merry little way. I mean, Half Price Books always has an awesome selection of books, but sometimes it feels as though you are on your own in the store. They used to be one of my favorate stores buy stuff an I used to sell a lot of my old stuff I not want any more. Back when they gave u a good fair price for your stuff now a days though they just out to rip you off. For your stuff I understand they have to make mo ey in order to stay running to. Ok no problem there but there is a big difference between maki g profit an just plain ripping you off I am a big movies an cd guy. An when I bring stuff in to sell I normally never leave with any money cause I have found stuff I want to buy do we break even store gets new stuff to sell plus money thry eoukd ha e gave me for it they turn around d an get to keep it cause I have spent it by tine they done an ready to offer on my stuff. BEST freaking bookstore on the planet! I soon miss Half Price Books. Growing up, this was my go to bookstore and since moving to Canada where books are priced out of this universe, I now appreciate Half Price Books in an entirely new way allowing me to feed my book hoarding addiction. From the occult to comic books, Half Priced Books has it all! I love selling my old books, picking up used ones, and scoring brand new ones at a fraction of the cost! It looks, feels, and operates like a quaint book store only on a bigger scale. Books, new and used are all over the place. I recently found one that I had been looking all over for. So that was pretty cool. They have loads of old music. CDs and tapes! I'm old fashioned that way so it is really cool to go and find a copy of a cassette my younger, dumber self decided to put in a yard sale 15 years ago or something like that. read more

I wanted to sell some of my books, so I took them in. After waiting for over half an hour, they told me that my books were worth $1.21. This included some reference books on project management that were in brand new condition, purchased for probably about $120. Another person ahead of me was offered over two dollars, and someone else with a huge stack of books for $12. If you have books to sell, I recommend just giving them to Goodwill. Much faster, and at least you can feel good about yourself for donating. read more

Fun place to shop... but I wouldn't bother 'selling' anything there. I was headed down to Seattle yesterday, so I thought I'd box up 15-20 books and get rid of them at Half Price Books (HPB) in Everett. We're downsizing / un-cluttering, so I figured 'What the heck. I'll try HPB.' So, this was my first sale at HPB, and it will also be my last. I get that HPB is a for-profit business. I'm a capitalist. But if you're selling a $20 book for $10, you should probably be able to pay people at least $1 a book, and run on a 90% margin. Apparently not. I took in two boxes of books, mostly management or investing books. Sure, 4-5 of them might have been older editions. But at least 12 of the books I took in there were practically 'old' new stock, meaning they were in Near Mint condition. I'm not including the ones that weren't in Near Mint condition (a few paperback sci-for novels). I also had a practically new (but open) PS3 game. User Manual intact, beautiful disc and case. So, for 12 management and investing books in Near Mint condition, and an almost new PS3 game, I received - wait for it - $6.50! And yes, I took the $6.50. Again, we're downsizing and getting rid of the things we don't need. It's a cathartic process - removing things from our lives we don't need anymore. I'd be damned if I were going to put those books and PS3 game back in my rig and drive away. That wasn't the intent when I left the house yesterday morning. So, there you have it. I know my books weren't probably in really high demand, but they were all clean and Near Mint. So, the way I see it, I got about $1 for the PS3 game and 46 cents each for the other twelve books, which will all hit the shelves at $10-$15. Not a bad markup, HPB. Not bad at all! read more

Made an online purchase from this store. The items were marked as in-stock. The order went through and was confirmed. I checked, the items were not available after my order was confirmed. Imagine my surprise when they cancelled two of the items from the order the next day. #1- you need a better, more reliable, and more immediate inventory system. #2- If your system makes an error like that, you need to do more than just apologize. You need to make good on the order, even if you have to take a loss on that transaction by procuring the item elsewhere to make good on the order which you confirmed. read more

It's a real treat to visit this location, we maybe come here twice a year and one of the times is usually during Labor Day Weekend where they have their 20% everything sale. Nestled in a complex honeycomb of strip malls, you will find this bookstore. Parking will be tight--we waited rather impatiently for a patron to leave the neighboring Olive Garden. They have a large clearance section, and literature. Their YA could be more though. The media area (DVDs, CDs, and such) was bustling. I was feeling overwhelmed and sleepy so I took a walk around the building. Saw a Coldstone Creamery, Toys R Us, Petsmart (did not go in) but I was looking for coffee. In the distance I saw a Starbucks in the Top Foods. Hah. Starbucks, whether you like them or not, is always there if you need a fix. Anyway, I returned a few minutes later to continue browsing. They don't have very many chairs to sit and read though, but it could be by design, no one would leave if they were comfortable. The service was quite good too, the employees were making rounds and ensuring everyone was content. :) read more

This is probably the best place in Everett to find used books, especially if you're looking for one in particular. They have a big selection which is organized quite well. I rarely make it past the entrance display without something catching my eye. They also have a good selection of music (vinyl!) and movies towards the back of the store. They stay open fairly late (10PM on Sat.) and I've ended up here a couple of times as a last resort to do something when other plans have fallen through. Service is very good. If they don't have what you're looking for you can put your name and phone number down and they'll give you a call if/when they get it in stock. I've gotten a callback surprisingly quick for a few items that were somewhat obscure (I thought so at least). Because it's packed into a strip mall complex, parking can be a hassle. It's surrounded by restaurants so coming here around lunch or dinner time can leave you driving in circles for a while. Good selection, good prices, open late - cool store. read more

Before this past experience this was my favorite book/movie store, it was our go to if we ever wanted to find anything for a good bargain. Today my husband and I went in to sell some movies for some extra cash as we have always done in the past we brought three diaper boxes worth of movies they only offered us $8 (that offer sounded ridiculous to us considering some of the items that were in there) and said that our order was mixed up with someone else's we didn't take the cash and left. I wasn't expecting a whole lot of money back but 8$ is just ridiculous! We got home and went through our movies to make sure none of them were missing (since our order got mixed up) sure enough all of the decent movies we had in the boxes were not in there, and they gave us back a whole bunch of movies that were not ours, we had the new Jungle Book, most of the Marvel Movies, all three of Hobbit movies, a couple of Studio Ghibli movies, just to name a few. My husband went back with all the movies in hand and they told him that all the movies that were not in the boxes were "missing" from their store. I'm pretty sure the dude that helped my husband when he first came in stashed them or they were given to the other customer who's order got mixed up with ours. All they offered us in return was the original offer of 8$ and to write up an offer of the items that were not returned, it is unacceptable! Especially when the manager was acting like she didn't know what my husband was talking about and we even saw some of our movies on the shelves. I am really disappointed in how unprofessional this past experience was. I will not be returning to this store and probably not the chain if this is how they will continue to do business. Their selection is always changing and you can ALWAYS find something you just have to buy! The clearance section is worth a look through every time. It's usually less than 30 minutes for a price quote on any media you trade in. I enjoy the Black Friday giveaway and have participated in the past. The employees are friendly and it's easy to find someone that knows what you're looking for. Parking is ample (on either side of the building). read more

I've been an avid Half Price Books shopper for many years. When I moved here to Washington in 2000 I was happy to find one here. It's always so much fun to wander up and down all the sections of the bookstore. I really like their music section. Parking IS a pain, but I've had better luck finding parking on the backside of the building -- where all the other stores in that section of the mall are located. read more

Had three authors in mind. Came in looked in a couple different sections, I gave up, left and ordered from Amazon. The problem is it looks like they have a hard cover section, a paper back section, a best seller section, a sci fi fantasy section, etc., It CAN be hard to find what you are looking for and there were only three employees and each had quite a line. I used to love this store but they don't treat you very well and I've taken almost brand new books no torn Pages no bent covers the employees have inappropriate conversations or are downright dismissive or rude. A great store, and one of the better locations. The Everett store has reasonable prices, and the best clearance section out of all the stores. Rather than the round racks, where you have to sort through the books sitting in front of each other to get to the ones in the back, they have actual bookcases of clearance, which makes it easier to browse. As well, they have the lowest VHS price of 50cents each. A few of the other locations were as much as 1-3 dollars for the exact same movies. read more

As the business' name implies, the prices are pretty freakin' awesome. No need to elaborate there. One thing about this location, that I haven't found to be true at the other HPBs, is the friendliness of every staff member I've come into contact with. Where most HPB reps are pretentious and mildly offensive, I've found the Everett book jockeys to be quite kind - helpful even! For example... I was in search of a December 1958 copy of National Geographic, and while other locations refused to even look for me to see if it might be in stock (since I didn't want to drive all over Creation looking for it), a rep from Everett was perusing the shelves in no time and helped me find my last remaining Christmas gift that I needed to buy. Kudos, also, to the team that helped re-launch this store after the great renovations that took place. The layout is much more open now and so much easier to navigate. It feels less cluttered and better organized, which is a huge help when you're searching for a particular book and don't have a couple hours to kill hunting through the shelves. One star deduction for the lack of exterior lighting and poor parking - this store is located across from the Everett Mall, which isn't the best neighborhood. Better lighting (especially near the rear entrance) would be much appreciated. read more

Half Price Books is a used book store by Everett Mall, part of a national chain. For USED books, their prices are pretty high. In addition, the building is older and does not have much charcter to it (it is a strip mall). As much as I hate to say it, I can see why Amazon is so popular. They have many more titles and prices are often half of half price books even when you factor in shipping. Cant say I would ever return to Half Price Books, but if you are in love with books, this place might not be so horrible... read more

This place has an excellent selection of books! I have not tried to sell anything here to rate that aspect, but buying has always been great. Most times when I have come here, they have at least some of what I want. You also can't beat the prices, especially when they have coupons or other promotions going. One thing I will say... If you call and ask them if they have a book in stock, I feel like they will almost always say no even if they have it. I don't know why, but I've been told multiple times by multiple employees with multiple books that the book I want is only at Redmond or that it is out of state and can be ordered... But then I'll walk in and find it right there on the shelf the same day. It's not that the book got there between the time I called and went in since the sticker will say it came in a month before I called, but this ALWAYS HAPPENS. So basically, you're better off going in and checking for yourself. read more

I had called on Thursday about selling books. I was told that they did not do that on that day and they did it in Friday between 1 and 5 pm. He told me that 1 was the busiest time and I should come in later. I asked where to bring them, was told the back door by the loading dock. I arrived at about 3:39 Friday, the back door was locked with a sign to use the south door. Finally a guy opened an other door and asked if I had an appointment. I said No, I was told to come to this door. He said appointment only, I told him that I was told just to come on down. He said by who, unfortunately I didn't have the guys name, I told him I had just driven 40 miles to take care of this. He didn't seem to care. I left, very angry. I had done business with them before, never again!!! Only one star because I couldn't give 0!!! I did everything right and the employees are not processing the same I do!!! read more

Great place to get inexpensive books, magazines, records, CD's, DVDs, blurays, hddvds, vinyl records, video games, tabletop games, even figurines and mugs and small usb electronics. I always find something I want when I walk into HPB. ...unfortunately they don't give you much in the way of trade in. There were times when I brought in different mixes of books - a small box of college textbooks, two boxes of mixed manga and textbooks, three boxes of D&D books, two large boxes of manga including four complete sets - and each of those times, we were only given around 30 dollars. It gets them off the shelves, but we probably could've made waaaay more reselling them on Amazon or eBay. No doubt they're going to turn around and sell those sets for around half the cover price, when we got less than a dollar each book, and I'll be pretty salty about that for a while. read more

First of all, so many times, when I've gone in there to sell them books, they act like you're bothering them and seem very un inclined to want to help or even accept your books. And then, as if that's not enough the prices that they offer you, for your books are completely insulting, if you take a look at what they ask for the same type of books you bring in when they sell them and then you compare to what you've brought them even though it's the exact same thing that they have on their shelves they'll offer you like $.25 for something. They sell for eight dollars and that's even when the book looks brand new. Comic books are highly collectible and I brought in like 49 comic books in mint condition from the 80s in the 90s in the 2010s and some of them are selling for about $30 on the Internet even if they were officially graded and they only offered me eight dollars for my whole stack of mint condition comic books That originally costed like four dollars at least for most of them and generally comic books go up in value so to get about $.25 apiece is absolutely ridiculous and completely insulting. So if you want to get an offer for what your stuff is actually worth I would suggest going somewhere else. In fact I kind of think that the employees may even be stealing your books on the sly like putting them off to the side either to keep some for themselves without entering into the computer. Some of the offers are, like I said, completely irrational but you waste an hour and a half waiting for them to evaluate your books so you feel even more violated and just accept the offer because you have invested so much time and energy. They prey upon people. That's how they have so many stores. It's a huge racket scam. read more
