We have liked the Halibut House dinners for some time. My wife is partial to the Halibut and chips, I very much like the shrimp or scallops along with a Greek salad. And the service is always good. Bur guess what! A group of us started having breakfast together once a week and it has turned out well. I have ordered from them over the last few years and it has been OK. Today I got my 2 Haddock and one order of fries. I must say it was worst I have ever had from them. I was using a steak knife and still could not saw through the edges. It was nothing but crumbly batter I put thru out the other piece of fish in the garbage. What a waist of $ 30.00. Too much back and forth over the years. At first it was pretty decent, then it got consistently bad (raw batter, little to no actual sustenance, too much batter, TOO much grease) and holy oh sheep shit the white girl they got workin for them totally ruins it for this place. When covid started, and I think it was just the 2 owners running the show, awesome. Super friendly, quick, courteous, and we were getting very consistent good meals. Then things started to settle down a bit and they brought some staff back (pretty sure that same miserable hoe) and Jesus Murphy it went back downhill AGAIN. So disappointed. When the Asian lady was running the show, awesome, she did such a bang up job running and serving up the good eats. Ordered Fish and chips for delivery. Order placed at 5:15 oclock for delivery by Uber eats by 5:55pm. Order came on back of a bicycle, was late, food was cold. Tried to reach Uber Eats, no phone number for them. Tried to reach them online, no success. Then called restaurant to complain they were using a Delivery service that used bicycle to deliver food on a cold and rainy night. Spoke with manager who refused to listen and deal with issue. She wanted me to order more food! Not deal with poor service and subpar food. This meal was horrible. Fish was cold and rubbery. The chips were cold. The box they came in was soaked with grease. Presentation was poor, food quality poor, delivery by bicycle 5 km was poor. I will never order from this place again. I will stick with Hutches on the Beach. I regret trying a new place and is not llisted with BBB. The restaurant and uber eats did not listen to complaint and each passed the buck to the other. I've been here a few more times since the very first visit. Things are better and the place really has picked up a bit. They are much busier but they have upped their service to compensate for the growth of customer base it seems. While they have a special for 9 bucks (halibut and chips) I still lean towards the menu version because it's a full plate and overall a more filling portion. While I've gone the 2 fish and 1 chips route more than once (both with halibut and cod) I still think the single is good enough unless you are REALLY hungry. A single one and one full size serving and I'm actually satisfied and if you know how much I can eat then that's saying a lot for the more than adequate portion size. I still haven't gone and tried the other menu items and I may never. They have souvlaki, gyros, burgers and even a breakfast menu which seems can be ordered any time. Their fish is that good and as far as fish and chips go it's a good standard to go by being that it is their specialty and they are calling themselves Halibut House after all. This is a great fish place that Lambert has chosen for Friday lunch a couple of times now. It is a cool little place with great fish and good prices. The fish here is just great!! Normally I get the Halibut because their Friday special is so cheap (under $10 for lunch). Their fish is perfectly cooked and not greasy or soggy like some places. read more

My fish was just cooked the batter was soggy on bottom, the batter on the onion rings tasted like raw batter and the onions inside weren't cooked. Just went there again, a couple days ago, and will keep going there. Our group of four all enjoyed our breakfast, service was great, and my coffee was never empty! The breakfast went up 50 cents, still worth it. My parents took the $14.99 2 piece haddock and fries home and my mom said, and I quote, it was the best cooked, and tastiest fish she has ever had! Went there later in the night for dinner with a friend. The server was average for politeness. Ordered 2 waters because I didn't want pop or beer. Wasn't a money thing. I do feel that you get labeled when your not ordering a drink. No lemon in water. Not s deal breaker but just to be noted. Food came out fast. Ordered halibut with fries and salad. $17 food was hot and visually 8/10 Salad should be in side bowl or plate. It was on same plate as fries and fish. Just figured the fish and chips with the tartar sauce and ketchup and vinegar should be left on its own. Fish size was 1 small peice that was perfect square. I've only known it to be a more natural shape and more rectangular. Anyways not a biggy but it was in the smaller side. It was fresh but the taste wasn't anything amazing 6/10. No lemon for the fish either? Are lemons that expensive? I have them at home. Maybe I'm Rich. I asked for lemon and they do have them just not willing to part with them unless you ask. She brought it out in a reasonable amount of time however did not bring out 2 pieces. So if my friend wanted 1 he would have had to ask himself. I guess if she brought 2 and only 1 was used it would be devastating financially over the course of a year X amount of lemon wedges. Fries were either good frozen or so so fresh cut. 6.5/10. The fry portion was extremely weak. I was expecting 2-3X what I received. My friends portion was a bit more generous. Still quite light from any other place I've been too. The salad portion ironically was a bit more then expected and the salad (Greek) was good. Fresh and no complaints. The place was clean and tidy. Overall what gives the low score was lack of fries and the fish was small and nothing to brag about. I'm not s cheap guy. We even left a 20% tip. I would say add a couple more fries to each order and make the fish a tad bigger and ask people if they want any lemon and you would see me back and s 4 star review. They were busy but people who arrived well after we did were served before us! We both had cod and chips. The fish was bland and the fries tasted like oven fries and not like deep fried ones. For a fish and chips place i expected a house made tartar sauce, instead in a package and just tasted like mayonaise 3. quantity was nothing special , a bit on the lesser side 4. to-go packaging was terrible and really messy and loud for an office enviroment Pros: 1. the staff seemed friendly 2. Fish itself was alright even though i felt the fillet was a bit small aswell OVERALL: Not worth $10+ , would've rather ate at mcdonalds would have been just as full for less that $5. read more

Dinner was just okay. Piece of Halibut was small, it cost me $16.99 for a piece of fish, fries and a greek salad platter. I have 3 opinions; ketchup was absolutely not Heinz and tasted funny i would have really liked Heinz rather then the no name stuff they put into the squeeze bottle, tartar sauce came in the little squeeze packets....homemade would have been much better, Greek salad dressing tasted not great at all...again it was the creamy store bought pre-made stuff.....homemade oil vinegar,oregano etc...so easy and would have tasted so much better. Chips had zero salt...salt needs to go on right out of the fryer! I do not think i will go back. I enjoy Bronte Fish & Chips much better. read more

They have a new so far unpublished location at Walkers Line and Upper Middle Road . . . . . open for 30 days or. My family lives locally and close to this new Walkers Line location. Tonight we anticipated that they would all be in the local neighbourhood generating and growing business cycle. What we got instead was a disappointing order that the cooks could not understand who had to even double check with one of your two wait staff. Throughout the cooking cycle these two cooks looked unsure and even nervous at times. My mother's and father's haddock was very dry, very thin and definitely overcooked. The same goes for my halibut. I write this to hope that their area chef can up your quality because as of right now this household is definitely and consistently disappointed with what we received and will not be referring rather warning neighbor's. My parents also believe that they need to change their frying oil a little more often. Too bad because we were all happy to see that a new fish and chip shop had moved in close by. We are now are choosing to resort back to our 'other' fish and chip provider. read more

If I could put -1 star I would. Absolutely the worst Grilled Halibut and dining experience I've ever had. Ordered the Halibut and Greek salad. First plate delivered to the table and it was so over done that it tasted like crispy paste. Waitress was very good and took it back to get a new piece. Second piece while not over cook was just a very poor piece of fish. Was like chewing on calamari and had no taste, but that's not the worst of it. Told the waitress that this piece was no better. Manager came over and started to ask us where we usually buy our fish? Fortinos? Wish they did. Then proceeded to tell us that lots like their halibut, but she understood what I was talking about. Still continued to insult us by saying we did not know what the texture and taste should be like. She was completely rude, demeaning and insulting. Won't be back!!!! Next time we will visit a better establishement that understands what fish should be like. Suggest Jake's Boathouse or Caz's Fish & Chips to all who care. read more
