I would give him a million stars if I could. I had seen two other dr's for a severe ear infection. I was given medicine and shots, that didn't work and then my ear got to the point that I was eating tylenol and motrin like it was popcorn and was still in tremendous pain. I called his office and they saw me SAME DAY! Not only that, he gave me some meds in my ears etc and I left his office pain free and stopped taking all my pain meds, literally 2hrs after I left! Yes he is "old school" (no fancy office, digital tv's permeating everywhere, bedside manner etc) but I like a dr that cuts straight to the chase and tells you exactly what is going on. The receptionists were extremly friendly and the dr was as well. My whole family is in the medical field and I have found that the "old school" dr's are the best. A fancy waiting room and fancy electronic devices does not necessarily equate to a great dr. read more

The staff was very friendly and efficient. Dr. Hall as well. He runruns a tidy and efficient operation. He examined, prescribed meds, and I was on my way. Hopefully, the med will heal my ear. If so,I will be back with another starstar or two. Very good experuence. read more

Thanks, Dr. Hall. He is a very old fashioned Doctor. Looked at me for 10 seconds and told me I had a deviated septum. Fixed it and found some inflamed polyps as well. Breathing much better now. read more

Maybe these other 5 star Yelpers in a different world than me? I have been to a lot of ENTs in my life for various things. This doc was the worst. Cleaning out my ears, he about put me through the roof. Not sure what the hell he was doing, but none of the other ENTs ever caused pain like that cleaning ears. I had seen two previous ENT docs and had an awful time with substandard Prima Admin. I called the nurses advice line of my insurance company out of desperation and they referred me to Dr Hall. Dr Hall actually listened to me and he was the first doctor to look in the direction of where the problem is actually located. Younger docs don't have nearly the bank of experience to draw from and often spouted off words from text books and never even saw the patient sitting there in front of them. Dr Hall was the first doctor in a long string of specialists who actually heard me and listened to symptoms. After feeling terrified through a string of other docs I have to say without reservation that I now feel safe here with Dr Hall. He immediately saw what I was talking about after I spoke only two sentences. -Couldn't say that about Marin ENT or San Francisco Audio--or even Kaiser for that matter. My son has had ear problems for years that Kaiser hasn't fully addressed. One visit to Dr. Winthrop and he was complexly fixed it. He was able to break up and extract all the clogged ear wax that no ear wash could fix. Would gladly pay out of pocket to go to this doctor. He's old school in the best possible way! read more

Dr. Winthrop knows what he is doing and having had partial success with other efforts to clean my ears and rid myself of an off and on infection, I am glad he has right equipment and works to get every last bit of excess whatever out of both ears. The process did hurt to a degree, but the results were worth a little discomfort. read more

Doctor Winthrop is a great doctor, I had a lot of pain on my left ear for a few days, I called his office and he could see me right away, he knew exactly what was wrong with me, and prescribed ear drops that cured me in two days. I had a very unusual problem, a thyroglossal cyst, which gave me problems all my life. Emergency rooms, hospital stays, 3 surgeries - never solved the problem. Dr. Hall said I needed another surgery and recommended a surgeon (Dr. Singer, UC and Novato) who was absolutely great. Dr Hall assisted on the surgery. I have been great ever since. He is "old school", and I like it! He was right on with my problem diagnosis and didn't buckle to insurance pressures to push you out of the hospital too early. I highly recommend Dr Hall and Dr Singer. And I saw some negative comments about the office staff. Had a deviated septum all my life with only a centimeter of breathing room in each nostril. Dr. Hall explained everything clearly and performed the surgery himself with no complications. We just finished an appointment with Dr. Hall this morning, and what a relief it is to say that our problem is finally solved and we can move on! Our 3 year old had gotten something stuck in his ear and after countless visits between the emergency room (which just made it worse because the pushed the object further in) and other doctors offices, we were finally referred to Dr. Hall. 6 months of running around spending up to thousands of dollars and no one could help. Very traumatizing for a child having all of these different people dig in your ear. 5 minutes in with Dr. Hall and the object had been removed. I was a nervous wreck going into the procedure because of our poor luck with other doctors, but Dr. Hall has been a miracle in this process that seemed like it was never ending. I would recommend him to any parent in a stressful situation like ours! you will not be disappointed! read more

Totally great old school doctor. This is the kind of doctor that is disappearing. He's the kind of guy who would help you for a weeks worth of fresh milk from your farm cow or a weeks worth of eggs or something like that. Comes to the lobby himself and says, "who's next?" Really disappointed in the office management here. The phone goes directly to a message machine saying to call back in 5 - 10 minutes. I did this for 2 days and left a message on the 1st. No one ever answered or even bothered to call me back during the times the machine said they were open. Wish I could see who sounds like a great doctor - too bad his office staff are completely useless. read more

Have seen this Doctor a time or two for sinus infections and actually chronic sinusitis. Pretty underwhelming all the way around (from front office to in the chair) Off to see a newer primary Dr. today and ask for other recommendations. ProTip..if you are a part of the Prima network they will suggest him. May have to jump out of network. read more

Biggest mistake I made was going to this doctor. He never fixed my problem, he made me bounce around to audiologists. I wasted hundreds of dollars just trying to get my problem fixed. I would be required to pay a co pay for him to sit with me for 30 seconds to say I had to come back b/c he needed the full report from the other doctor, when all they had to do was call and have it faxed over. He then ended up telling me there was nothing he could do for and he exhausted all of the options when he never gave me any options in the first place!! All he did was waste my time and money. I am a Kaiser Insured person. And I gratefully pay out of pocket to see Dr. Hall because I can actually get to see an ENT with one phone call instead seeing my GP first (with a co-pay) in order to get a referral to a Kaiser nurse who requires me to first spend 3 days putting wax softener into my ears before actually seeing me. This Kaiser process has left me in an echo chamber for 4 days with increasing pressure building up. Then, with a second appointment (and co-pay) a nurse with a horse sized syringe simply blasts my ears with water in an attempt to remove what has been described by other ENTs as requiring specialized removal. Dr. Hall is quick, efficient and effective. Instead of 2 appointments, 2 co-pays and 4 days of not being able to hear--I make One phone call with one payment that is approximately what my first co-pay to Kaiser is. And I have been fortunate to almost always get an appointment the first day I call. Thank you for making good medical care easy. read more

Incompetent, bumbling fools. Avoid this office. They understand the concept of making an appointment, but they do not understand the concept of honoring an appointment. I made an appointment for my 5 year old daughter who had a sudden, complete and unexplainable loss of her sense of smell. I provided the scheduler with all of my daughter's info + our Blue Cross insurance info. (I had previously confirmed that Dr. Hall was on Blue Cross's list of preferred providers. We have a regular Blue Cross Silver Plan --- not Obamacare --- so there's no issue re payment.) The first question the scheduler asked me after my daughter's name was her age and date of birth. I could hear her typing in my answers into her computer. The scheduler asked a lot of questions about the exact nature of my daughter condition, our insurance, etc, and the call took quite awhile. THE DAY BEFORE OUR APPOINTMENT DATE DR. HALL'S OFFICE CALLED TO CONFIRM THE APPOINTMENT. On the day of the appointment my wife, my daughter and myself showed up a few minutes early so we could fill out any paperwork needed and let staff copy our insurance card. When we showed up at the front desk and gave our name the woman looked nervous and started a rambling, incoherent explanation re the Doctor not seeing children 5 and under (which was odd because his online info state he treats children as young as 3.) When I asked why the scheduler did not tell me that when I made the appointment, and why the office confirmed the appointment the day before, she got more nervous and started rambling even worse. There were no patients in the waiting area, there was dead silence from the patient rooms behind the front desk, and the doctor never came out to apologize for his office's blunder. The woman at the front desk appeared to be the only one there. Our daughter started crying when we explained to her outside that she would not be seeing the doctor. read more

Excellent across the board! Aileen's experience is astonishing and is most highly unusual for Dr. Hall's practice. For over fifteen yrs. I have had a chronic ear condition, needing attention four, or sometimes more than four times annually. It's something that can't be cured, only managed. Four yrs. ago I moved from central Marin, where I went to two of the "top" ENT's around, up to Novato. Only when I switched to Dr. Hall's care, did I realize that the two dr.'s I had been seeing for over 10yrs., really weren't so "top"! Dr. Hall is the definition of what a fine physician should be. He's Professional, Courteous, Gentle AND Excellent in his practice. He does a much better job managing my condition and since seeing him, my problem has lessened with severity AND frequency. The office staff I have always found to be professional, courteous and efficient, as well. I have never ever had to wait for my appt.'s, either! I highly recommend Dr. Hall. If I could leave 0 stars, or even less, I certainly would. Went to this doc to have a bump removed from the inside of my nose that was interfering with my breathing. He is very friendly with good bedside manner, and I booked an outpatient surgery to remove the bump. After surgery, he showed me a very tiny piece of something he said he removed, which was the size of a pinhead. After all the time and expense, the bump is as large as it was. This doctor almost caused me my life. I had a mild sore throat that endured for months. Went to see him several times over a period of 4 or 5 months, and he kept trying different antibiotocs, none of which worked. Although he did clean the wax out of my ears during the process. Finally I went back to my Primary doctor and got a referral to a different ENT. He did a proper exam, found a tumor in my tonsil on the first visit. I eventually underwent chemo and radiation treatment. He did a very poor job. read more
