Great experience at Hallberg Marine ! Usually buying a vehicle/boat is a miserable experience but the staff at Hallberg Marine made it fun !!! Adam was very professional and has the patience of Jobe ! I bombarded him with questions and emails. Best part is he knew most of the answers but was very clear if he didn't but always researched the correct answer. Even better he responded to long emails with questions very quickly which was even more amazing given my recent car buying experience! He kept me informed as to the pontoon delivery date and was very flexible on pickup time. He even was able to arrange a bunk trailer for us to bring in our trade in for free! He participated in the boat checkout process and added a lot of helpful comments. The pricing at Hallberg beat the competition by miles! They also gave us more for our trade in than the competition! I am a cynic and usually not very complementary about car/boat dealerships but Hallberg Marine is the best you are going to find!!! Great customer service in the service department! Sales are important but once you buy your boat the service you receive afterwards is far more important. I did not purchase my boat at Hallberg Marine so the fact that their service department has serviced my boat and trailer extremely fast, job well done, and at a fair price is even more of a testament to their service department. I recently had to have my boat in twice in 2 weeks for major issues and Hallberg's service department fixed my boat in record time and it was done right and at a more than fair price. I was surprised both times I saw the bill. They could have charged a lot more. A special shout out to Jimmy in service who is knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with. We have used Hallberg Marine for service in the past. Expensive but they did fix our pontoon. This is the 1st year we asked them to shrinkwrap the boat in addition to winterizing. They asked us to leave the keys with the boat and sent us on our way! When we went to pickup the boat and asked for the keys they said they shrinkwrap them IN THE BOAT and said that's what they do, but didn't tell us, the customer who have our trailer lock keys with the boat key! I asked for a discount to buy a new lock and they said, "NO" and that's on a $500plus bill, and that was the "service manager"! Oh, I did sit on hold twice today waiting to check the status of the boat...once for 17minutes, hung up and later for 23 minutes! They did expedite the service today, so that's why I gave them 3 and not 2 stars. Be aware your keys get shrinkwrapped inside and they don't think they need to tell you that! read more

We were in a real bind and an employee at Hallberg Marine went completely above and beyond to help us. We had just purchased a pontoon and trailer in the Scandia area and were heading back home to Buffalo. We knew the trailer tires were in bad shape but thought we could make it home slowly, especially since we had a spare. About ten miles into our trip, a tire blew out. After putting on the spare, we knew our chances of making it the rest of the way were slim to none. We found Hallberg Marine was only nine miles away and didn't require getting on the freeway, so we limped over there. When we walked in, we saw three people talking. It was a Saturday afternoon, and my phone had indicated they were open. A woman asked what we needed, and we explained our difficult situation. She informed us that they were actually closed for inventory and couldn't help. We asked about other options nearby, but it seemed we were out of luck. Just as we were losing hope, one of the gentlemen, Matt Dervie, spoke up. He asked if we could change the tires ourselves if we had the parts. "Absolutely," we said, having just changed the first one. He motioned for us to follow him and proceeded to get us set up with four new tires and rims. We were so incredibly grateful to him for going out of his way when he didn't have to. After he helped us cart the new tires out to our trailer, he had us pull over to another building where he brought out a floor jack for us to use! Thanks to Matt's outstanding and sympathetic service, we were back on the road in less than an hour. I didn't know how to reset it or even find the settings screen to do that. I called to ask for help and Matt told me to stop in the following Thursday when he would be at work. We started looking for a new pontoon about 3 weeks ago. Stopped in Hallberg Marine to look at their line of pontoons. We met Dave and he showed us their pontoons. He listened to what we liked and disliked. Took his time and was NO pressure to buy. Ended up looking at a smaller pontoon. The 3 guys in the used boat area(they have the 18ft. pontoons there) stayed after hours to show us the Bennington 18ft pontoons!! Again, NO pressure sales, and know their products. Looked at many other brands and DIDN'T get the same service that I got at Hallberg Marine. Went to the Mpls. boat show, and looked at all of the different pontoons in one place...ended up going to the Bennington booth last. Talked to the Hallberg sale people and got the SAME service and help at the show that we got at the store..NO pressure to buy and just a GREAT experience...felt like we were important to them. Very condescending, ignorant and lazy parts department. Went in to get a $15 dollar part to make a boat repair. The parts guy told me the manufacturer does not make that part and I would have to buy a$90 dollar assembly to make my repair. We called this morning to get our boat and were advised that they need 3 full days notice - no flexibility. In previous years, we had called the day before and were able to get our boat so they have changed their general enforceability practices in their contract. I would not recommend using them or purchasing a boat. Their receptionist was rude and had no interest in helping us but rather complaining. We just bought our new boat and I was very happy with my sales representative Randy. He was responsive, never pushed us, and went out of his way to make sure we made a good decision for my wife and I. The only reason it's four stars and not five is mainly do to getting our boat prepped. I understand taking the time to get it ready for the person and making sure it's clean. I just think over two weeks to do so is a bit long. We purchased the boat two weeks ago on Saturday morning and told it would be two weeks to be ready. Stopped to buy a new rubber handle for the starter rope of my old Mercury 20 horse outboard. First parts-man asked for the serial number, said he needed it to look up the part number. second parts-man standing at the counter looked on. Gave him the year but insisted he could not find a part number without the serial number. His boss standing at the counter said they sold only genuine manufacturer's parts they couldn't look it up without the serial number. Lazy! Stopped at another smaller Mercury dealer and gave him the year and motor size and he went on line, said it was part # so-and-so but had been replaced by Mercury part # so and so and he had 2 in stock. Have had fairly good luck with the storage, but a week ago I picked up my boat (which I was selling) and found they had done an inspection on the boat motor for a potential buyer without my permission or knowledge? No one should be doing work on a boat without prior consent from the owner!! I was also told the wires near the engine were burned as if something had shorted out? After scrubbing off the old, dried up mold and algae off the wires they look brand new!!! Also told there was another issue with the motor. After a separate certified Mercury Marine mechanic looked at it and found nothing, the boat was sold without a hitch. Something stinks here. Use caution. read more

I'd to first say that my review is a reflection of the storage program at Hallberg. Hallberg is a huge company. In fact their website states that they are Minnesota's largest boat, pontoon and marine dealer. I don't doubt this as they have multiple buildings in their area. I say area because they have a few blocks of buildings and such in Wyoming, MN. Almost like their won little town. I've been a boat owner for over 20 years. Anyone that has a boat knows there is maintenance cost and upkeep and we usually only get to use them for about 6 months a year before our water freezes. When the season ends, its time to put the boat into storage. Some people want to win the lottery, I just want a garage that would be big enough to hold my boat and vehicle. In fact a pole barn would be perfect! Unfortunately I don't have the land needed for this dream so I like many boat owners store my boat during the off season. Working in the finance industry has helped teach me to be frugal and wise with my money. I used to pay $100.00 per month to store my boat at a local storage. After a referral from a friend I called Hallberg. The first season they were already full, however I was able to reserve a spot the following season and have been storing my boat at Hallberg ever since then. I love several aspects about the Hallberg storage. I drop my boat off anytime after September 1st. This is perfect as with the change of seasons so does my sports interest. When I say drop it off, its literally a drop, stop in to sign my paperwork and I'm on my way. Then pick up is anytime after April 1st. I always choose to store my boat inside. Maybe the shrink-wrap thing works, but I would rather be inside then sitting outside with some plastic wrap on. Just my opinion. Anyhow the storage cost is only $350.00 for my boat as the length of your boat determines your cost. When you want to pick up your boat you give them a call a few days ahead. When you show up your boat is ready to pick up. This last visit Paul (employee) was out helping folks. I backed in and hooked up and was in and out of there in 5 minutes. How about that! Hallberg also offers maintenance services so if you need to do any winterizing or post storage work, they can complete that for you. Hallberg has by far been the best place I have stored my boat. While they may not be perfect in every aspect per some of the other reviews here, they have been in business for over 65 years so they must be doing something right. read more

Couldn't help but feel they didn't like females, especially not ones who look like my spouse. Others treated way more politely than she was. Really bad customer service. Each year try to get service or do the start up and there is issues. This is the last year I will come here. Purchased a $32,000 pontoon in April. Early August I noticed a bolt missing from tow bar installed by Hallbergs, used to pull tubes. Contacted salesman and service department, and was informed that it wasn't covered by warranty. When I notice the missing bolt, I had owned the boat for 100 days. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE & BUSINESS PRACTICES. Killed 3 of my batteries, $519 in damages. Where do I start. I brought me boat to this place last fall, and paid for winterization and storage. When I picked up my boat for this season all 3 new batteries were completely dead because they didn't disconnect them - why else would I pay them to winterize my boat? When i confronted them about this, they admitted they didn't disconnect the batteries and told me they would "get this taken care of." Their idea of taking care of it is $132 dollars. I expected to get my money back on the 6 month old batteries and also some of the money I paid for them to "winterize" the boat, considering that they didn't carry out that service to it's entirety. Who knows what they even did to the boat while they had it? Every once and a while I experience disgusting business practices like this and feel the need to share online. To any new or existing customer - stay away from this scam. Boats and batteries are expensive, and you simply cannot trust Hallberg Marine. If they had any class at all they would at a minimum pay for the damaged property. This is also not an isolated incident, my family members have experience less egregious issues in the past with them as well. Avoid this place. read more

RUN AWAY!!! My wife and I purchased a 2016 Bayliner DB195 from Hallberg in May of 2016. We live on a lake and after removing the boat from the water in October of 2016 I noticed the hull was warped. I brought the boat to the service dept to get it repaired and was told that the boat would need to travel back to Mexico to be repaired. I thought no big deal because the snow was coming anyway. Ice out was on about March 20th and here it is April 29th and we still have no boat and still no date as to when it will return from Bayliner! I just want my money back at this point so I can buy another boat and I was told by Denise (the general manager)that I am going to have to sue Hallberg to get it back. Hallberg is terrible! We are looking to purchase a pontoon. We went to Hallberg on a Saturday. We walked in, looked around for about 40 minutes. No one ever acknowledged us, or asked if they could help us. We then called a few days later looking to get some questions answered. We were transferred to a sales associate's phone, where we left a detailed message, including we were looking to buy. It has been over a week and no one has returned our call. At this time, we would not purchase anything from them, even if they had the best deal. Apparently business is so good for them, they are not concerned with customer service. On another note, we did stop in to the used boat location of Hallberg. They guy there was very helpful. We called him about a new pontoon, but he could only sell what was in his "used" showroom. read more

I am in the market to buy a new boat. I spoke with salesman Randy first who was a nice enough fellow. He quoted me 200 dollars off MSRP on a 2 year old boat. I proposed a counter offer, which he said he would have to confirm with his boss. He called back promptly and said in reality it would only be 100 dollars off when considering tax. I called back and spoke with Denise. Denise proceeded to lecture me on boat models, pricing, and told me to go buy a boat somewhere else. I was polite yet firm and was met with hostility. I purchased a Jon boat and Shoreland'r trailer from Hallberg. Both new. Prices were reasonable. When they brought out the trailer it was white and very rusty. That were trying apparently to rid themselves of older stock. I wasn't happy with a rusty trailer and asked for a newer rust free trailer. I mean while not terribly expensive they're still almost 1,000. They brought out another trailer and this one was better but the tongue was very rusty. Again hey guys I just want a nice new trailer. They switched tongues and this was one was an off-white. Colors didn't match at all. Now I am made to feel like I am the problem. Finally they get it right ( hours later ). They were supposed to set up the boat trailer, tie downs, basically ready to drive away. I get out to 35w and decide to check. Good thing I did as the winch strap wasn't in lock. and low and behold no tie downs in the back. My boat would have ended up on the freeway. Hallberg I understand I didn't't purchase a 10,000 rig but I can't imagine much worse customer service in my situation. And the kicker !!!!!!! I never once was upset or anything just wanted a new trailer. Well I spoke with the owner during this ordeal and he was actually upset with me. My wife and I fell in love with a specific Bayliner while at the Minneapolis boat show and went to Hallberg Marine to possibly try to buy a two year old but still new on the showroom floor model. I arrived on a Tuesday approximately 3 pm. They close at 5 so I thought I would have plenty of time to look and negotiate. Nobody was able to help me for quite a while and when they did help me both the sales person and the sales manager seemed to be irritated by my presence. It's no wonder that almost all of their boats say call for current price on the webpage. Their prices are so high that they are afraid to scare you away. With brand new boats they seemed close to the MSRP, but with the four or five older models that were still new on the showroom floor they had only barely marked them down at all. When I asked if they would negotiate the price on the boat we wanted they said they could only go down $300 and that at $36,000 they were only going to make approximately $1,000 on the sale over their wholesale price. I couldn't believe it, but I still tried my best to negotiate until finally I left frustrated. I then drove to their nearest competitor and purchased a brand new 2017 model for $1,000 less. That's right! Their competitor sold me the exact same boat only newer with exactly the same options for $35,000 and even special-ordered it with the exact color we liked. Hallberg Marine insisted that the price was as low as it was ever going to be and that it would only go up as summer approached. That sales tactic maybe the reason why they have so many late model boats on their showroom floor. The salesperson guaranteed me that they would sell that boat before spring and I can't help but notice as a 2015 model it has sat on their floor for two full Summers. Save yourself the aggravation, and the long drive from the Twin Cities. They don't really want your business anyways. read more

I bought a used boat pontoon boat from Hallberg Marine and I was very pleased with every aspect of the experience. I saw the boat online and had my Dad check it out in person since I was in Colorado. I wanted a full enclosure made for the boat. They worked with a local canvas shop to get it custom made for me and worked it into the final price. I was able to close the deal over the phone and email. I then drove out to pick it up and everything went very smoothly. They had it cleaned up, serviced and ready to go. I was also very happy with the customer service that I received. Once I got it back to Colorado I had a couple of questions and they were happy to help me out over the phone. A couple of years after the purchase I dropped a piece of the bimini framing in the water and I could not find a replacement. I called them up and they were able to find a piece and ship it to me. I have had nothing less than a great experience with the purchase and customer service at Hallberg Marine. read more

I bought a trailer at Hallberg and the salesman insisted rather forcefully that the trailers came with the bearings full of Grease. We were 50 feet away from the shop and a grease gun. I got home and went to my garage, grabbed my grease gun, and the bearing buddies took 17 shots of grease each before the spring started to move. I buy a $1000 trailer and get denied a one dollar shot of grease that ensures it's longevity. read more

First they told me they made a mistake winterizing it and were not going to work on it until the engine mfg. or I agreed to pay for it. Then they said they didn't think they made a mistake but refused to perform warranty work on the boat and motor (which they sell) because it would be difficult! Told me to take my boat elsewhere and charged me almost $1,000 to get it back. And they did NOTHING. I took them to court and won. Now they haven't paid what they owe me based on the court judgment.
