Food 6/10 In the food hall, a slice of sourdough with a HUGE mound of crayfish and also smoked salmon. I thought it was quite good, but still a bit dry and bland. Atmosphere 6/10 Probably the cleanest food hall I've been to in the world. So much natural sunlight just streaming in.

This place is amazing!! There is definitely a line, but it moves quickly and is totally worth it. These open face sandwiches have the freshest ingredients ever! Bite was a mouthful of heavenly goodness. I got the egg and shrimp open face sandwich and the salmon one. They were both extremely delicious, but I felt like the egg was the perfect combination with the bread, and I would highly recommend that one. They put so much care into making every single sandwich look beautiful and full. Anyone who is going to Copenhagen? I would recommend that they come here! It's perfect for a quick bite too. It can be very filling but isn't heavy.

I was hanging out in the food hall having a beer before dinner at a nearby restaurant when I spotted a bite I couldn't resist - a chicken salad, open faced slice of deliciousness! I resisted the temptation to order 2, 3 or 4 more bites but stayed true to my dinner plans later. Not sure the name of the bite I ordered but "deliciousness" is close enough. You get it... 5 stars, I'll be back!

Open faced sandwiches (salmon and roast beef)

Stopped by this place inside Torvehallerne as well as their other location at Tivoli Gardens. They serve open faced Danish sandwiches which is a specialty in Denmark and a must get item. At both smørrebrød locations the ingredients looked incredibly fresh and there usually is a short line, but it goes by quickly. The sandwiches are ready made and 2 should be enough to fill one up. Roast beef (78Kr = $11.22) - This consisted of roast beef, fried onions, and relish, on a rye bread. Fish cake (78Kr = $11.22) - This consisted of dill mayonnaise and shrimp and fried fish, served on top of rye bread. Salmon salad (118Kr = $16.98)- This came with smoked salmon on top of a salmon salad and rye bread. Steak Tatare (98Kr = $14.10) - Beautiful presentation for this one! Steak tartare was served with vegetable relish, horseradish, capers and a egg yolk on rye bread. Although the steak tartare could have used a little bit of seasoning. Marinated Shrimps (125Kr = $17.99) - This was a mixture of shrimps, mayonnaise and dill on rye bread. Overall all the open faced sandwiches my group tried here were amazing! They were extremely fresh, with our favorites being the salmon salad and steak tartare. Pricing is HIGH here, as is everything in Copenhagen, especially in the tourist area. However, the open faced sandwiches are a very Danish item to eat and a must when visiting Denmark.

A great shop inside the KBH urban market food hall specializing in poplar Danish open face sandwiches. All the options range from 60 to 130 krone, vegetarian and best options are cheaper than seafood. Everything looks like a work of art and every sandwich we tried but the spot and did not disappoint.

    Danish Meatball Smørrebrød.

When in Copenhagen, one must try an open-faced sandwich aka smørrebrød. Without a doubt, the smørrebrød at Hallernes is absolutely beautiful; but there is more than what meets the eye. While the smørrebrøds have been created so artistically and aesthetically, the taste was not as amazing. It was rather prettier to admire than consume. Although I am not saying it is not bad, but just not quite worth it. Anyways, my friends and I went ahead and each ordered one. I had the Shrimp Smørrebrød (125DKK) while my friends got the Roast Beef (72DKK) and Danish Meatball (68DKK). The shrimp was topped with an overflowing amount of peeled shrimp with an dollop of mayo. While I understand that this made the dish more nice looking, the mayo really needed to be mixed evenly with the shrimp. This left some parts with too much mayo and some without any. The roast beef was also tasty, especially with the crispy onions and pickled cucumbers. Both of these two were pretty good, but the meatball one was very disappointing. I was not sure if I was even going to finish my share of this one. The meatball was dry and tasteless with not much going on for this smørrebrød. Take your pick of another one unless you particularly enjoy Danish meatballs. Overall, great variety of smørrebrøds here, which are beautifully done. Unfortunately, the taste is mediocre and seating is also limited. In addition, it would've been really useful if they labeled the name of each smørrebrød on display as one of the lady was being a bit annoyed from us asking what each one was.

Located inside Torvehallerne, I noticed the crazy line at this place during the lunch rush and decided to give it a try. The smorrebrod case was to die for - everything looked so appetizing. My husband and I shared the fried fish and shrimp/egg smorrebrods as a snack - if eaten as a meal, I would get 2 per person. There's plenty of seating around Torvehallerne for you to enjoy your meal - just beware of the birds!

This is the place in Copenhagen for the famous open faced Danish sandwiches! I've tried the Chicken Salad, Pate & Lax with Egg sandwiches-all were excellent made with fresh ingredients throughout the day. They have locations also in the Magasin & Tivoli food halls. Amazing how one slice of bread topped with a variety of simple and fresh ingredients can be so good.

8/7/17 Came back here 2 days in a row for the most awesome smorrebrod. I tried the fried fish fillet, lox with capers, and shrimp salad. Every bite was out of this world. I can watch the prep for hours. It's mesmerizing too. So clean, so fresh, so tasty, so beautifully presented. Prices are good for the quality of food that you get. This is a must try in Copenhagen.

Delectable and delightful to the eye and palate! No wonder why there is a line to this place! First bite of a smorrebrod and it was delicious! They have a variety to choose from. Do it the Danish way and have it with beer!

Hallernes Smørrebrød is not a bad place to get a quick taste of the famously Danish open sandwich smørrebrød. Beware, that the queue might be super long during lunch hours, but it's totally worth it. In cold days, maybe it's hard to get a seat around the tiny bars, but on great sunny days, just have them packed your lunch and go to the nearby park on the other side of Torvehallerne. It's totally worth it. The quality of the smørrebrød is up to standard, and my favourite is the salmon ones, the frikadeller ones are also super good, and the fish fillet is also amazing. Oh, what am I kidding? I love them all. Pro tip: If this is your first time in Scandinavia, try the herring one!

Beautiful open faced sandwiches with a lot of variety!! I got the smoked herring one and all of the ingredients were very fresh. The flavors and textures were well balanced with the bread, fish, capers, and dill was impeccable.

The smørrebrød here are delicious and will have you wanting s'more! This lively counter-seating eatery is definitely one of the more happening food stands within the Torvehallerne. And with a large glass display case showing off the many different open-faced sandwiches - some topped with giant prawns, colorful edible floral pieces, or just piled a mile high -- the area can often be crowded with people ordering and those just interested in taking a photo of their very photo-worthy smørrebrød offerings.

We liked the food too. My daughter got the shrimp and egg toast which was nice but it wasn't really enough for a full meal. She shared my Baked Hake main, which was lovely. There were outside tables, but it was a bit chilly, so we opted for the nearly deserted inside restaurant. We had a table near the window, so it was a great view. The restaurant was nicely decorated and the service was very friendly. I ordered the gravlax open-faced sandwich, which is smoked salmon (very similar to lox) on an excellent sour dough bread. I opted to skip the mustard sauce, but the sandwich was perfect. My wife had the potato open-faced sandwich, which consisted of new potatoes, organic rye bread, lemon mayonnaise (romaleid), fried onions and pickled pearl onions. She really enjoyed it, along with her Spritz drink. Denmark seems to be one of those countries, where you cannot order tap water. Fair enough. However, our water consisted of an open carafe (which I'm sure was tap water), for which we were charged 50 Krona ($8). This seems high for tap water.
