I was recommended to Hallmark by my realtor, and had a great experience working with them. As a first time homebuyer, they were excellent in explaining the process and all the ins and outs as I was searching for a home and as I eventually closed on my current home. All of the staff I worked with were very helpful and very personable, including Jonathan, Laura, and Julie, each of which I worked with throughout the process and each of whom was very good to answer any questions I had. Never at any point did I feel like I was an afterthought, they were very good at giving personalized attention. Even a year after buying my home, they've been great to answer mortgage and tax related questions that I've had on a couple of occasions. Jonathan was great at helping me work through figures and to get me a mortgage that's worked great for me. He figured things off of worst case scenarios, so it was nice when I was prepared for higher closing costs, but ended up with about $1000-$1500 extra in pocket than I planned on. That ended up being very helpful, as I needed to replace my garage roof within the first couple of months to satisfy my insurance. Basically, the only surprises were positive ones! He also helped me to lock in a low interest rate. I've since recommended Hallmark to a friend, who has also had a great experience with them and recently closed on her house. Fees were insane, service sucked. I did all their work for them while they just pushed papers. Unbelievable. I haven't had a mortgage in years, so this is what it is devolved to? I'm hoping it's just this company. I finally walked into an office to turn in my tax returns (BTW after the house closed they notified me they still needed my taxes) and the lady acted like she didn't know how to copy shit and really didn't want to do it. I was guided by his team on how to use my savings, and coached through the process. Whenever I had questions I was always treated as a valued customer, even though the home I purchased was well below the Indiana average sale price. Unfortunately my experience with my mortgage loan officer wasn't as pleasant as it was last year. I know family members who had this same loan officer and there experience was amazing. With my loan officer, the turn around time to advise me of the process was slow. I had to reach out to her. Most of our interaction was done via email and no follow up call to discuss anything. Hopefully my credit that I have been working on so hard which is increasing won't decline too much when I go to another lender for a possible pre approval. read more

Hallmark mortgage company was recommended by our realtor. Our experience was horrible. They went back on everything thing they said they could do. They changed the mortage terms we all agreed upon one week prior to closing leaving us no choice but to do a different type of mortage which was not the one we wanted. They required extra home owners insurance that was basically ridiculous. We put down half the value of the home we were purchasing and this was how we were treated. Unfortunately, this was a bad experience even though the company and the specific broker we contacted came highly recommended from people we know. We were looking to buy our first home and were hoping to get some excellent service and guidance. When we first contacted the broker (who was specifically recommended to us), he was in frequent contact with us, sending emails and calling us to ask questions and keep us updated. Then, a hiccup happened in some of the paperwork and while it was getting resolved through a separate organization, our broker just stopped answering phone calls, didn't return our voice messages, and didn't return our emails. That was the end of it; we never heard from him again. I thought it was supremely rude and disrespectful and even insulting. It really discouraged us from moving forward; it was a lot of work and emotional and mental investment to just be dropped suddenly without another word. You're probably likely to have a better experience than we did, but I think the actions make a compelling case for what might happen to you if they decide they don't want to deal with you. read more
