Reliable, honest and intelligent. They moved in a timely manner and were a great resource for my family!

I hired Dominic Freed with Freedom Home Improvements to replace the decking & railings that were on…read moremy existing deck. 1st payment was made on 6/25/22 for $50,250. 2nd payment was made on 9/2/22 for $15,075. 3rd payment was made on 9/22/22 for $4,500. 4th payment was made on 10/4/22 for $11,306.25. 5th payment was made on 11/8/22 for $9,568.75. I paid Dominic and his company a total of $90,700. I still owed Dominic $20,100 for the next phase of work but he quit before he got to that point. When the bid was originally discussed, we made it known that we wanted everything to be done according to St. Charles code & Dominic agreed to this. Then as the project progressed, he started cutting corners anywhere he could. I've attached pictures of braces that he installed on the deck that were already cut twice. He was using scrapped wood to brace my deck which is very dangerous! My farm manager was speaking with two of the guys that were helping Dominic build the deck & they told him that they've never built a deck before & didn't know what they were doing which explains a lot. The job site was also a disaster from the very beginning. Trash & scrapped materials all over the place that he refused to pick up. Pictures attached. He came to the property on 12/26/22 & stole decking/railing materials that I already paid for & then told my farm manager that he's done & he's not finishing this deck. My farm manager filed a police report for my stolen materials on 12/28/22. Picture attached. His contract states that he owns all materials until the job is done. He didn't finish the deck which means he broke the contract, not us. After already paying him $90,700, I now have to pay an additional $81,000 to have my deck completed by another company. This is unacceptable because I only owed Dominic another $20,100 and that was after several change orders were added to the original bid that I agreed to. The original bid that I agreed to with full deck completion was a total of $100,500 so he was nowhere close on his original bid. This says a lot about how he conducts business. On 1/2/23, my executive assistant, Katie, was tasked with leaving a Google review, reaching out to BBB, & reaching out to the Attorney General in order to share my experience with Dominic and his company. BBB & the Attorney General attempted to contact Dominic several times to hear his side of the story & he didn't respond to either of them. When Katie left the Google review on 1/2/23, Freedom Home & Improvements was a BBB accredited business with an A rating. If you search his company on BBB now it shows that his business is no longer BBB accredited & they have a C rating. Dominic did not try to resolve this matter whatsoever. The only course of action that he took was responding to the Google review months after it was left (5/19/22) & calling Katie to tell her that he is personally suing her. Katie responded back to Dominic on 5/31/22 and told him to put that in writing when he responds to BBB and the Attorney General and she will have her attorney reach out to him. We have not had any further communication with Dominic or his company.

We had a great experience with Jones. I sent a request for quote on a Saturday and had someone come…read moreout and understand our needs and give a quote the next day. We had a need for the project to be completed in a very short window (less than 6 weeks) from the day of the quote. The owner said they could make it happen. Other places we contacted couldn't even start within 6 weeks, let along finish. The work crew was amazing and efficient. Overall our experience was without hassle and done 2 weeks ahead of time of our deadline. I highly recommend.

We had the same experience as Keith P. I thought maybe I was imagining it…read more Guy who came out was one of the owners (apparently). Didn't really listen to what our goal was. Instead asked some questions and ran with part of my answer and just gave us a quote for that project instead of the one we described. He wanted to do a bigger project, so asked questions to that end because apparently fixing my small deck wasn't worth it for them. I don't know if his pricing was fair because the other company came out and actually listened to what we wanted and then gave us an estimate for exactly what we wanted. I asked if the wood on our deck could be saved. Immediate no (even though he said current store wood is worse quality than when this deck was built as a means to emphasize the benefits of composite at an earlier point in the convo). Made me feel guilty for being honest that we would be getting a couple of bids to compare. I was being honest to say that we were trying to do due diligence. His attitude changed and he emphasized at multiple points after that the free work he was doing by giving me an estimate. Their business model is to come into your home and provide pictures and product samples and then write up the quote then and there. I just wanted a guy to come out, look, and email me the quote. Instead it was a lengthy process . Seemed like an old-style sales approach. Also, they wanted both owners to be home and he seemed annoyed that it was just me...but we literally just wanted a quote, so no my spouse was not going to take off work for an estimate. Overall just weird energy and a strange experience! And I've had plenty of bids/estimates for projects around the house including, house painting, fence installation, deck repair, etc. Tl;dr - didn't listen to what we wanted. Up-sold. Appointment took forever. Not a good vibe.
