This is a really wonderful shop. I booked an appointment a week or two ago and had my tattoo done last night. These guys are super flexible with their schedules and are happy to make a time work. They're also really open to ideas and are so creative and artistically skilled that they really help you to obtain a unique and gorgeous tattoo. Imagine this-- It's Saturday around 5pm. You are part of a party of 10 looking to get spontaneous tattoos. You call just about every shop that Yelp has to offer in Portland until you land on this gem. They say they will take all of you at 7:30pm and that each of us should know what you want. That's right. They tattooed all 10 of us that night with 6 different designs. The shop closed at 9pm and they stayed until about 10:30pm and never tried to rush us out. The guys did awesome work on all of us. Ginger was a stand up guy who tattooed and gave his honest opinion. Reuben was patient with 2 people who had never been tattooed before. Nick did amazing line work. He drew all of the tattoos that he was going to be doing. I feel lucky to have landed at this place with this amazing group of guys. I will definitely be back to get some more work done here. I recently got a tattoo at Hallowed Ground this past weekend, and it was a great experience. After calling 4 other shops, I finally reached a real person, Reuben, who was free to do my small tattoo (a fork & knife behind my ear). My first tattoo (not from Hallowed Ground) was a real pain in the ass. I waited about 2 hours while the artist prepared everything, all while assisting other customers at the front of the door and answering the phone as well. I understood that she was busy, but when it was all said and done I was under the needle for about 20 minutes as the quote on my back really did not require that much effort. I felt neglected and was reluctant to ever go back to that shop, let alone get another tattoo at all. My experience at Hallowed Ground was waaaaayyyy different. I walked in, was greeted by and introduced to Reuben (he even remembered what tattoo I had talked to him about on the phone), and proceeded to wait about 2 minutes until it was my turn. Woah. Super quick. After I gave him my image, he sketched up his own version of what I wanted, and it looked awesome. Thought it was super cool that instead of just taking what I brought and copying it, he made it is own. I was pumped. Finally, I sign all my papers and get under the needle. After about 5 or so minutes, my tattoo was done, and it looked AWESOME!!!!! I was so happy with my experience here. All in all, it took a half hour from the time I walked in to the time I left. Often, as a teenager, my business feels neglected and overlooked, but I definitely did not feel that way at all here. 10/10 would recommend to a friend, and next time I want to get tatted, I'm definitely calling Reuben. read more

Literally one of the coolest tattoo shops that I've ever been in. I was on vacation with my girlfriend and I wanted to get a somewhat large piece done. I walked in and talked to a man that was working and he let me know that my piece was too large for a walk in. He kindly handed me his card along with the other artists. When I was walking out I saw the "Tempt Fate" machine. Of course I needed to know what it was. You put in a token and whatever stencil comes out you get tatted. I was back in 20 minutes with my girlfriend and they immediately tattooed me. WONDERFUL artist, kind and welcome shop. I am from NY but will 100% be making the trip back to Maine JUST for this shop. read more

GUYS. I just had the best tattoo experience here. I had wanted to get something to commemorate my grandfather and also am impatient. When I decide to do something, I need to do it ASAP. I called last minute and though they are busy and popular, they were able to fit me in!!! Hallowed Ground is a clean, very cool space and my tattoo artist was the best. I saw Natasha (Tasha) Berry and I cannot tell you how impressed I was. She worked with me over the phone to get the tattoo, then once I arrived helped me pick font options, resized and placed then moved and re-placed the tattoo and check and rechecked with me. Her thoroughness also translated to how sterile and clean she kept the environment and how she applied the tattoo. Everyone told me that rib tattoos took a looooong time and they hurt a lot, but she made the process fun and enjoyable and efficient and not a long process. The healing process was also really short and she explained everything well. Tasha was also extremely friendly, courteous, and not intimidating. It's clear she understands her job and is amazing at it! She even made my squeamish friend feel right at home!! To be frank, she should charge more. My tattoo is incredibly reasonably priced and is definitely really nice. I will definitely return and I will definitely see Natasha. I'm sure the other people here are great, but she is definitely a beautiful tattooing unicorn. read more

This place is great! The atmosphere is relaxed and fun. It is easy to get an appointment with a great artist. Jenn was my artist and even though she is just an apprentice for now she did a wonderful job. She spent a lot of time prepping my design and making sure it was exactly like I wanted. Beautiful flash and traditional tattoos! Rueben and Bellows are awesome guys with talented needles. Bellows gave me a Pennywise the clown tattoo and just knocked it out of the park. Being from Boston, i never had traditional tattoos or tattoos with color for that matter, these guys introduced me to the beautiful art of flash. 5/5 stars. Great people and awesome environment!
