Nice location, poor guest services. It's mid April and the air conditioning is turned off by the hotel for all rooms, temperature in the rooms is in the 70's, you can open windows and all the noise outside will keep you awake. They can also use some more friendly staff. read more

I have stayed here a couple of times and always been happy. This hotel is more classic then luxury though for my taste i sometimes feel it has more of the homefeel when its not to modern or sterile. The property is well maintained and the rooms are fairly large for europe with clean rooms and comfy beds. The piano bar has a nice outside patio as well as great tasting tapas. One of the downsides with the bar is the somewhat high prices in the area but of course that is natural on a hotel in this class. Always enjoy the pool area in in the basement with the steaming hot jacuzzi. Service is what you expect and the valet service along with safe garage parking of your vehicle is appreciated. Nothing special about this Marriott. Regardless of your hotel loyalty or status your just another person paying for a room. I'd give it two starts, but they have a nice lounge for elite members. Check in staff are pretty awful. Also, I called the hotel operator and she said they don't have a club lounge, which they do. Floor 5. Maybe know about your hotel before you get a job. read more

I have not (yet) stayed in this hotel, but used its wonderful outdoor terrace for coffee and lunch on several occasions. It has a great mix of sun and shade, the service is pleasant and efficient and the lunch menu is absolutely fine. Because it is slightly tucked away from the main streets, it tends to be a little quieter than some other terraced restaurants. There is no traffic in the immediate vicinity which is great when you are having lunch (I am not a fan of exhaust-flavoured food) read more

This hotel has been the absolute worst, I've ever visited- it ruined what was supposed to be a wonderful meet up with a dear friend. Im German but living in the US at the moment. When I went to visit my family with my 14month old baby boy, I arranged to meet up with one of my older friends and her 20 months old baby in Hamburg. My husband has lots of hotel points through business- he kindly booked one night with two rooms in her and my name. On the day, I arrived late due to traffic, only to be greeted by reception, that 1) my husband had insufficient points and if I didn't pay for both rooms in advance, both my friend and I and our babies would be kicked out. I was stunned. When I tried to figure out what happened, I was told that the booking was giving us the "benefit of a doubt" that we would acquire the necessary points in time but obviously had failed to do so. When I tried to ring my husband in California, he was furious and got on the phone with Marriott USA who immediately looked into the matter- because we clearly had enough points! Marriott Hamburg insisted on payment though, so I charged them on the credit card for now. 2) After some moving around (they had managed to place us on different floors!), it was only by chance that I went back to reception several hours later to ask what had happened, only to be casually told 3) "oh yeah, you did have the points. It was a misunderstanding". NO APOLOGY. My friend stood next to me and was also stunned by the way that woman at reception was completely oblivious to all the distress they had caused. NO APOLOGY. 4) Later, when our boys and us came back from dinner, I wanted to inquire about late checkout which is regular courtesy in US hotels. Here, the next lady (who was quite nice actually) pointed out that they would normally charge for it, but would allow us to check out at 4pm the next day. Unfortunately, they completely failed to pass that information on. The next morning, I met a cleaning supervisor in the corridor and double checked and... IT WAS COMPLETELY NEW TO HER THAT WE WOULD BE CHECKING OUT LATE. I asked her to make a note of our room numbers and double check with reception for our late check out at 4pm. Only to find a cleaning lady come into my room around 12 and getting a huge shock when I was putting my boy down for his nap!! This was only topped my my friend's experience who received a phone call around 1pm asking rudely when she was thinking of vacating the room!!! This hotel made us feel so unwelcome whilst being so unbelievably unprofessional- I'm still shaking my head. 5) the (young and tall) porter who was picking up my luggage was unbelievably unprofessional and.. I'm sorry, simple minded and disinterested. I had been told that they could also already bring my luggage into the car OR store it at the hotel (I was leaving around 6pm that day to see my friend off at the train station) but he had no idea what he was doing and claimed after being quizzed for a while that he didn't know how to put the luggage in the car, pointed us to restaurants at the hotel that didn't exist and was just unengaging, unfriendly and unhelpful. And clearly had no clue about anything going on at the hotel. Never in my life have I stayed at a hotel that made me feel more unwelcome and uneasy. I had been looking forward to it so much, because the hotel itself is beautiful and the food was lovely, but the people inside turn it into a horrific experience. I normally leave positive reviews for places where I can because I try to see the positive in everything, but for this hotel, I urge you: Stay away. PS to be fair, the ONLY positive experience I had was the lovely head waiter at the restaurant (a dark haired older gentleman) who was very friendly and kind to my little boy). I had dinner at the restaurant before setting off, celebrating my freedom that I could leave this dreadful place, but sad for the hotel points we had wasted. Don't be me- use your money, points, precious life time at a place that values your business and presence at their house. read more

I stayed in Hamburg for 4 days on a business trip. It was my first time to Hamburg so I wasnt familiar with the city at all and being a Marriott member I chose this hotel so I was very surprised at how wonderful the location was! It was in the center of the shopping distrisct. There were nice restaurant all around and everything was in walking distance. The hotel staff ALL spoke English really well. The selection in the Executive lounge is really well. I didnt eat the hotel so I cant comment on the food. The rooms were not European size at all, but in par with American size hotel rooms. Just FYI, for those that workout in the mornings, the fitness center was very very small- one bike, one eliptical, two treadmills, one weight machine and a few free weights. read more

I stay in Marriott as much as possible. This one isnt bad but there are no english movie channels. ZERO. The ai conditioning is paltry. Never cool enough in the room which is the norm in Germany. The ai is pretty bad and i am always warm. I am small and in good shape but this is ridiculous. I travel on business so having a movie channel would be nice. Even in some of the dumpy hotels in Asia and India they have at least one movie channel and proper air conditioning. Really....dont be so cheap read more

Was in Hamburg on business for 4 days and found this Marriott to be quite good. Very friendly and attentive staff, all of whom spoke very good English. Wifi connection is fast. Tasty breakfast options featuring both hot and cold selections. Regarding the fitness area, I was training for an Ironman race and was in need of a place to swim, bike, and run. The lap pool was wonderful (featuring gutters!), and the treadmills and stationary bikes were more than adequate. The gym also featured a few ellypticals, two sets of smaller free weights, and locker rooms. Room was surprisingly large (compared to typical European room). The piano bar downstairs was a great place to wind down at the end of a busy day. Hotel location is very central, with direct access to the train and bus system, and easy walking to the many nearby shops, restaurants, and a few sights. read more

No Wifi unless you pay extra. The staff say it's because we booked through Hotels.com or Trivago, but that's a very bad excuse. Very ungenerous and old-thinking. I've never experienced this before. It's sad because the rest is good, but this is quite extreme. read more

I finished my assignment a day early so I switched hotels and moved closer to the city. This hotel is in a great location. A lot of the pricey boutiques such as Louis Vutton and Ralp Lauren are located nearby. It's walkable to most of the tourist places nearby. The room had great views. I would recommend this hotel. read more

I've never actually stayed overnight at this hotel but I am a regular for breakfast meetings. The place is very close to my office and I find the service to be impeccable. Their breakfast offering is great and I really enjoy setting up early morning meetings there to combine business and pleasure. I can imagine that the rooms are pretty standard US style types and by the location am sure they are clean. Yet, I can't rate them and can only at this point recommend the place highly to stop in for drinks, or food when in the area. Easy to reach from the Gänsemarkt and not far from anywhere if you are already in town. If looking for a place to stay overnight, you can't beat the location for its central location. Obviously if you are not in town to shop there are better hotels I am sure in other areas but the Marriot has to be up there with the best when it comes to the center of town. read more
