In the center of the action you'll have a relaxing stay at Renaissance Hamburg. Their huge breakfast is a bonus to enjoy all morning, and the staff are friendly and helpful throughout the hotel. It's an easy walk to city center and many attractions, with most places just 15-20 mins by foot. The rooms are spacious and restocked generously as needed. The bar was a nice place to hang, with outdoor seating in warmer weather. The airport commute was easiest by car, but you could also take a bus in twice the time. We'll return as we are in the city again. read more

A fantastic business-oriented hotel in the Heart of Hamburg! The centerpiece of the hotel is Bricks, which is both a bar and restaurant that pretty much takes up the entire ground floor. The bar menu is amazing, with lots of special drinks and snacks to enjoy. There is lots of outdoor seating for smoking and enjoying the outdoors. The fitness center on the 6th floor basically has all the equipment a good gym has, and it's *very* clean. The ambiance of the hotel is casual yet highly professional, which is VERY hard to do well. I never have a problem finding a happy, helpful staff member. The one thing I really appreciate is that the hotel management is always present and willing to help out. I will be making more trips to Hamburg in the future, and I'm definitely putting this Renaissance in my rotation! read more

Just two nights here as we made our way across Germany and the Netherlands. This is a full service hotel, very comfortable and located in the heart of a high end shopping district. My bed was a little soft but the sheets were crisp and the towels were soft. The shower was excellent though I'm still trying to understand why Europe only does a half glass for the shower door. WTH? The breakfast buffet is excellent. Huge spread of American and European classics including more smoked salmon and pastries than should be legal. Well cared for and crowded with the tourist crowd. Bonus point for the tall blonde young woman at check-in who helped us tremendously with dinner recommendations and then remembered to ask us how they were the next day! This is a good hotel in a good location with relatively easy access to the main tourist sites and the main train station. The beds are comfortable, the hotel bath products are Tokyo Milk, which smell delicious. I've had rooms with a tub and then rooms with just a standing shower. I prefer having a bathtub for a good soak, so if this is important, definitely ask at the front desk. The staff is friendly, and even though it was a bit hectic when I checked in early on Friday, they were able to accommodate me. Room service is also prompt and quick. The meeting facilities are also quite good, and if you have it catered, the food is plentiful. All in all, this is a good hotel in Hamburg is you're needing place to stay while in business or on holiday. read more

I quirky little detail is the absence of a mini-bar, which has been replaced with a small room near the reception, where you can "shop" beverages and snacks to bring up to the room. Came here for business travel. Really nice hotel. Extremely central location, especially for shopping. Rooms are large, clean, modern, and comfortable. Bathroom is nice and large too, with a great shower. Blanket is nice but bed is a bit hard. Wonderful, friendly concierge. Elevators can be a bit slow and crowded at times. You can hear your neighbors. Hotel can get packed at times, you'll see lots of people eating breakfast at the restaurant. Wifi is free and pretty fast and reliable. Love their tea selection in the lobby lounge. Get the oolong milky tea, it's the best. Nice area to relax. read more

Conveniently located close to an old part of Hamburg, surrounded by many stores and shops and even a Starbucks close by - this is probably for the American Tourists who need their special coffee in the morning. Even if the service is great and location is good, I can't give more than 2 stars.. because the hotel is really old and not meeting average Renaissance hotel standard. I haven't seen any hotel that doesn't have flat screen TV for years now and then well.. this hotel has non-flat screen TV with maybe 20 inch screen. Rooms are average size but feels pretty small .. and very dark.. Breakfast buffet is good. Very good croissant. Pancake and waffle were OK (seems like they made them in advance and just heat them up when people order them). Again, service is good everywhere in the hotel but it really needs some renovation. Overall, I'm very fond of this hotel and highly recommend for the following reasons: 1. Wonderful front desk staff. I had a number of questions about my stay in Hamburg and the employees were so gracious in helping me. Thank you! I have to say that I am currently at the Holiday Inn Express in Berlin and am having the complete opposite experience with their hotel staff - so I am now experiencing "Renaissance Hamburg hotel employees withdrawal." 2. Nice rooms. I really liked how spacious our room was! The balcony was great as well - especially since it is shared with a few other rooms. You can walk back and forth along a long nice rooftop area and get a nice view of the square. 3. Good food. After a long night we regretfully were too tired to venture off to another restaurant so we decided to eat here. So glad we did!! My mom loved her currywurst, my grandma adored her shrimp and I really enjoyed my parsley soup. It was my grandma's 90th birthday so we asked for a little bday dessert - they brought a very delicious chocolate mousse that had "happy birthday" written on the plate. So nice! Our waitress was extremely pleasant as well. 4. Wonderful location. Loved that we were in the middle of some swanky stores and not very far from the Rathaus at all. 5. Great gym. I was pleasantly surprised to take a shorty elevator trip to the fitness center to find a basket of complimentary earphones, a treadmill that overlooks part of the city, and a little radio that was playing music for my workout. Was also happy to grab an apple on my way out. So, why did I knock a star off? 1. Our room smelled when we arrived. Although, I should note that we were transferred immediately. 2. The hallways smelled a little funky. Not terrible, just a little old I think. 3. WIFI NOT included in your stay. You need to pay everyday OR use the 1 computer they have in the lobby for free (a slow PC that needs to be updated). p.s. some older reviews mention that this hotel still has crappy TVs...they have since been replaced. I stay here when I visit Hamburg for work (it is close to our office). The location is fantastic, the food at the restaurant is good (including room service), the rooms are very large and roomy and well appointed. The level of service is good and overall typical of this brand of hotel. This is my go to hotel as the rates are generally very reasonable for what you get. read more

I was working out near Finkenwerder, but decided to stay downtown on my first night. I have been to Hamburg enough times that I didn't need to see any sights, but wanted to be close to some food and drink locations, as my first night abroad usually involves getting off the plane, having a few drinks, and crashing early after the overnight flight. So, this location was perfect for that. Check-in was quick and very friendly. Indeed, friendliness exuded throughout the stay, from check-in to check-out to bar service. They even pointed be to a great doner kebab place (Batman) about 15 minutes walk away. My room was one of the smaller ones, and was definitely...small. It was fine for a night, but I wouldn't want to spend a week. Everything was clean but a bit run down - a renovation is needed. The TV is old, tube. The bathroom is old. The beds are okay. The bar area is great and highly recommended. On this Saturday night, there was a lovely band led by a great singer. The bartenders were fantastic, and made some great specialty drinks. Prices are high, but that is expected. read more

This hotel is awesome and is located in the heart of Hamburg. The bar is modern but quaint. The staff is very friendly. Elvis, the concierge actually walked to where we had to park our car and drove us to the hotel. The streets were blocked by construction everywhere and he walked two a whole city block to drove our car around the construction to the hotel. He then took our bags upstairs. I visited here for business travel for three days. The staff was very courteous, made a point to speak English me, and made dining & transportation recommendations that worked well. This is within walking distance of nearly everything you need (dining, business, shopping, travel, sight-seeing, etc.). I have not been so lucky picking hotels in Hamburg, so I thought the Renaissance (part of the Marriott) would be a safe bet. NOT. There are some positives: the location is great, very central. Rooms are small but comfortable. But.......the air conditioning was not working in my room, and it was a very hot night, which meant the temperature never went down below 35 degrees. I called reception and they seem to know there was a problem, but told me to open the door or window to get air. The only problem with that is that the door and window are on a balcony which is open to all the rooms on that floor. Not exactly a safe option for a female guest (or male for that matter). My alarm call was half hour early - they apologised for the mistake but woke me up anyway. And generally the staff did not really care that I had a terrible night sleep. Oh and by the way the hotel is in the middle of extensive renovations, (they leave earplugs on your pillow!!!!!!!) so stay away for at least another 2 months - and then try at your peril. read more

Efficient front desk staff. Comfortable room though a bit tired. I enjoyed being able to open my third floor windows that overlooked the square just in front of the hotel. Central location was very convenient for dining and site seeing. I would definitely stay here again the next time I'm in town for business or pleasure. read more

I have stayed here many times in the past and like this hotel. The location is very good and convenient. During the recent stay (after many years), I realised that they haven't updated the facility, especially the hallway but the rooms are good. The price is OK for Hamburg. They have a good bar and a restaurant. I would definitely recommend this place for anybody and hope the management will do some renovation soon. read more

Really really bad. The AC is extremely old and loud and cannot be switched off. Also the old TV set on my room did not work.
