Like so many, my wife and I were ready for a respite from our COVID-19 exile. Two nights at the elegant Hamilton House was just what the doctor ordered! Built in the 1860s and a stop on the Underground Railroad, the spacious, high-ceilinged HH exudes history and charm. Innkeeper and owner Gloria Buley greeted us warmly; I like to think I could see her smile through the surgical mask she was wearing. Our well-appointed room had a comfy king bed and a recently remodeled en suite. The wardrobe contained two plush bathrobes; a small table held bottles of Perrier, chocolates, fresh flowers, and two surgical masks. Like our room, the inn's common areas are immaculate and tastefully furnished with period antiques and Oriental rugs. Our two breakfasts were highlights! Gloria's a CIA culinary school grad and it shows. Fresh-squeezed OJ, omelettes, French toast, baked apples, sausages, Canadian bacon--whew, I don't eat nearly this well at home. Breakfast was also a chance to get to know Gloria. A recent transplant from Woodstock, NY, she purchased the Hamilton House weeks before the coronavirus shut down the world. I'd be down in the dumps, but Gloria seems indefatigable and is using the time to, among other things, install a garden walk that will pay homage to the nearby Birge Fountain, circa 1903. We're already looking forward to our next visit! A tip: One of Wisconsin's best supper clubs, the Duck Inn in Delavan, is a 15-minute drive from the HH. read more

My brother and his wife treated me to a weekend at the Hamilton Inn. (They had stayed there a year ago and raved about it - for good reason!) This gorgeous 1861 mansion is exquisite, perfect down to the last detail. The multi-course breakfasts, created by innkeeper (and Culinary Institute-trained chef) Gloria, were off-the-charts delicious and kept my belly full til dinnertime, even after a day spent hiking the gorgeous Kettle Moraine. I slept deeply on the luxurious comfy bed, but I'd eat saltine crackers and sleep on a cot to hear Gloria's stories! Gloria has a talent for being present but never intrusive. She'll give you a house tour with fascinating tidbits (from John Belushi to the Underground Railroad!) but ask about her journey from Woodstock NY to Whitewater WI for a rollicking story with a happy ending! read more

Had a great stay Would have liked a TV and more outlets that worked. 4 star because though it was nice- I felt the weekend we went may have been a bit overpriced. For what we got- it was as much as a hotel in Madison. The queen bad was really small The internet worked well. The room and bathroom were clean. It was quiet. We missed breakfast as we left early but used the fridge to keep things we ate early in the AM Kathy was very kind and easy to reach. Would recommend read more

Gloria Buley and the Hamilton B&B nestled in Whitewater Wisconsin - charming, exquisite, delightful and absolutely delicious meals are just some of the descriptors my husband and I use when talking about our perfect picture stay at this historic house. Gloria was incredibly gracious and kind and her culinary expertise was most appreciated as we both really enjoyed her creative and amazingly prepared breakfasts. This was our 1st time away since stay at home at home order lifted in our state and Covid still a concern for many. Gloria explained the extra work she was doing to keep guests safe. My husband and I were here for 2 nights to celebrate his birthday, including the Fireside to see Sound of Music (which was fantastic, by the way!) (The bed-and-breakfast we used to reserve when going to Fireside had permanently closed.) The reviews for Hamilton House were great, so we felt pretty confident booking here. Excited even. It did not disappoint!! This place is amazing!!! Like you're stepping into the Victorian era--beautiful woodworking throughout (staircase is exquisite), paintings, stunning fireplaces, beautifully and authentically decorated...everywhere! A very serene and peaceful place...a wonderful 'spirit' (vibes) about the place. And, meticulously clean!!! We love the special touches like the soft, thick towels (placed everywhere you might need one), bathrobes, a place on either side of the bed for cellphones, plus outlets/extension cords thoughtfully placed, etc. As an added bonus, there's a rich history to the place, complete with a link to the Underground Railroad (ongoing investigation underway--interesting!). Gloria (the owner) took time to share with us and even gave us a tour! To top off our great experience, the food was 5 star!!! Gloria is a very skilled, highly-trained gourmet chef. For starters, the crêpes were the absolute best either of us have ever tasted! We would highly, highly recommend this place! Looking forward to future stays!! read more

The house, location and owner/innkeeper all combined for a fantastic experience for my wife and I. We hadn't been to Whitewater before, but the Hamilton House is situated among more restaurants and attractions than we had time to visit during our brief stay. Our room was spacious, comfortable and full of character, but pleasantly quiet at night. The homemade breakfast - omelettes, potatoes, parfaits and muffins - was better than you'll find at any restaurant. Gloria was a fantastic host who attended to all of our needs. If I could, I would have given this wonderful home away from home many more stars! My daughter and I had the absolute pleasure of staying at the Hamilton House before her Freshman move-in day and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. We were both pretty nervous about her moving into the dorms the following day but as soon as we walked into the BnB, we immediately felt calm and at home. Actually, the Hamilton House was so much better than home! The decor, history of the house, attention to every little detail, pristine rooms and most of all the incredibly gracious and warm welcome by owner Kathleen was more than we could have ever asked for. My son had his wedding here. He and his wife and the wedding party stayed here with the parents. The place was amazing the breakfast is the best and the house has a very warm appeal to it. You couldn't ask for a better place to have a small wedding of get together. read more

This place was great. My fiance and I went for a night and we stayed in the Monet room. The room was decorated with Monet art, there was a two person whirlpool, a big bed and nice big bathroom. We had an add-on romance package with a bottle of champagne, cupcakes, a romance game and candles. We also had breakfast delivered in the room which was very good. Kathleen (the owner) was friendly and always around if we needed something. The only bad thing I have to say about this b&b is that we were expecting a working fireplace in the room and not a fireplace that did not work. We will definitely go back. read more

We stayed at the Hamilton House a couple weeks ago and loved it. The innkeeper is awesome and told us about how the house was once a stop on the Underground Railroad. The home itself is huge and looks appropriate to the time without being cluttered with antiques like some B&Bs are. Everything is tastefully done. Breakfast was fantastic and the innkeeper was excellent about accommodating my food allergies without singling me out or making me feel like I was a bother. That's huge; I've had other B&Bs tell us they couldn't accommodate us at all for meals (which is disappointing but at least they're being honest). So not only did she accommodate my allergies, but the food was great! Her peach cobbler is an old family recipe and it is to die for. We stayed in the Monet room. The room is wonderful and well-appointed. We like B&Bs that have an old-fashioned charm without being overdone, and this room definitely qualifies. The jacuzzi provided a great way to relax. There is a large greatroom in which you could play board games, read, sit and talk, etc. There is a coffee station upstairs with coffee and tea as well as a communal fridge. There is a cabinet with extra towels up there too. Very thoughtful. You really feel at home here. We had a great time and would definitely recommend Hamilton House to anyone looking for a romantic getaway or a comfortable, yet unique place to stay. read more

When travel takes you to southern Wisconsin, the ONLY choice in the area is the Hamilton House. Don't waste your time or money on the few motels in the area, they are less than 1 star. On the other hand, the HHB&B is one of the most quaint, cutest B&B's you can find anywhere. As a business executive who logs 100+ nights a year in hotels & motels across the U.S., staying here is something I actually look forward too. Ms Kathleen (the owner) is one of the warmest, most service-oriented innkeepers you will ever find. Her breakfasts are among the best too! Importantly for me, the rooms are very clean, private and perfectly adorned and decorated. The ultimate compliment is for me to say "I need to bring my wife here..." This place is perfect for a romantic weekend, just passing through or for a business traveler like me. I have seen them all in my time and I give this my strongest recommendation. read more

Great place to stay. The hosts are wonderful and full of knowledge. Our room was so comfortable and perfect for our needs. It was very warm when we visited, but our room was very well air conditioned, as was the whole house. The house was full, but was also quiet. Did not hear much from the other guests. Very beautiful b&b... The rooms are neat and cozy, could use some finishing touches to make it stand out more. The room we stayed in was very big... And the bed is like heaven! The double whirlpool was wonderful. The food is delicious, however they could serve bigger portions. Kathleen is sweet and easy to talk to. We did have an issue with our water in our room being brown for a few hours, but it was taken care of relatively quickly. The background to the house is very interesting! read more

My boyfriend and I booked here last minute after a tornado watch derailed our camping plans. Hamilton House is a beautiful place with a rich history. Our room, the Cezanne room, was spotless and tastefully decorated. The owners are friendly and welcoming without being obtrusive in any way, and there are many thoughtful touches throughout (like the cans of seltzer in the communal fridge and the bath salts in the guest bathrooms.) Wonderful B&B. Nice rooms, good breakfast, coffee and tea available at all times. Stayed in the Manet room which was comfortable. Hostess gives you a key to the room/house and just asks that you let them know if you will be coming to breakfast. read more
