Ahmed is the only massage therapist there and I'm telling you, the man knows what he's doing. I did an hour and my body was so relaxed I really should have booked 90 minutes. The room is warm and cozy and I didn't want to leave. Afterward I sat in the waiting area with a cup of tea and I was in heaven. Then it was Hammam time with Fatima and oh my goodness. One hour please and thank you. It's this mix of calm and scrubby and warm and steamy and I walked out feeling like a completely different person. A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PERSON. We had a private event here for my friends birthday. It was a cool to experience another country's bathing and spa rituals. The owner, Fatima shared about Morocco's rituals that inform their spa practices. The waiting room has authentic Moroccan furniture and the changing room is lux with robes, slippers, and all the skin care you could think of, some of it Arabic. The hamman is unique and you are left with your skin feeling very smooth but just a heads up, the scrubbing is somewhat intense which was a surprise to me. I came to Hammam with a friend and this was my first experience receiving such a treatment. We arrived just a few minutes before our appointment time and were greeted and asked to fill out paperwork. Once completed we were walked through the process of what to expect from start to finish at the appointment. The dressing area is provide, but you are in a room with whomever your appointment is booked with. There are curtains to divide the room, but no separate area. We were taken into the room with tall tables (pictured on their Yelp listing) and laid face down first. You lay in the steam for approximately 10-15 mins before they start to scrub your body. The space is very clean and roomy. I didn't feel cramped during the treatment. After your body is completely scrubbed and then oiled you will need to go to the shower located in the corner of the room and rinse off. They do rinse you during the treatment but this gives the opportunity for a final rinse off. I did not feel rushed during our appointment, but was acutely aware that if an appointment would have been after us we may have ran into them in the common area. Hammam Bethesda is truly the best, relaxing self care experience I've had here in the DMV. I can't thank them enough nor tell my friends how excellent this experience is and how they should book too! I've had a hammam years ago in Ohio and also on vacation in Morocco. However, the ambiance and quality of this one has got to be the best. I've never felt so soft and educated after on the importance and demonstration of a full body exfoliation. I have extremely sensitive skin and take prescribed topical creams from my dermatologist. However, the owner's products she used did not interfere or affect my skin regime. If anything, it helped it! There are so many businesses now that only pour into the aesthetics of their business but come short in quality. Hammam Bethesda intentionally cares for both. Enjoyed a relaxing couple hours here getting scrubbed and pampered. They take care of you as soon as you walk in. There are three tables spaced apart but in a row so no privacy but it is dimly lit so it's not really an issue. You can also wear bathing suit bottoms for modesty and they give you sandals so you don't slip (they are very attentive and assist at every step). The calming music was very nice. The relaxation room is a little small so wouldn't camp out for an afternoon but I'll definitely be back for the wonderful service. Note parking in the garage next door is free on weekends. read more

Omg, I came here for a spa day to celebrate my 40th birthday and Hammam Bethesda certainly didn't disappoint. Parking is available in the front of the building or in the garage which is right next door. It's located in downtown Bethesda in an unassuming retail strip, but once you come in, you're transported to a relaxing Moroccan lounge. From the time I arrived, I was greeted promptly. I started with a 90 min hammam and it was such a relaxing experience. Although there was a lot of exfoliation, they were still gentle. I left feeling like a baby! Afterwards I was able to sit in the lounge and have homemade Moroccan cookies and mint tea which was a treat. I ended my session with a 90 min massage with Ahmed. He was very friendly and respectful. I loved that he allowed me to select my own music so we went with a relaxing jazz mix. I also loved the fact that we was friendly but not chatty! I was able to actually relax without feeling pressed to have a conversation. Overall, I'd give this place 5 stars and I'll definitely be returning! read more

What to expect: Very warm room and table Black Soap to clean the skin Scrub to exfoliate skin (this is the longest part of the Hammam but you feel so clean seeing all the dead skin removed!) Moroccan Clay removes toxins Shampoo and condition hair (with 90min hammam) Shower to rinse off clay and hair conditioner Argan Oil applied to skin with a light massage and hair This is perfect for all year round but I especially appreciated how soft my skin was for the winter season. I sat and drank some Moroccan tea and ate some delicious cookies after the treatment which was tasty and relaxing. Some tips: I would come without makeup so that she can apply the argan oil to your face. Also wear/bring loose clothing to put on after your hammam because you skin will be a little oily and sticky. I had this place bookmarked a year ago and I'm so glad I finally got to come with a few friends on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The whole experience was private, peaceful and safe. I loved how it felt so warm and calm in the middle of downtown Bethesda. Fatima and the other women were great and attentive to our needs and the facilities are very clean and comfortable. You get lots of skincare and hair products available to use and there's a cute waiting area to sit and drink tea and relax before and after your Hammam service. Getting scrubbed down for an hour is intense but afterwards it's totally worth it because we were all glowing and felt so refreshed! When you enter the hammam, the lighting is low, and the temperature is turned up so you are immediately in a warm cocoon. I felt very comfortable and relaxed. I have been here twice now and it is something I highly recommend for woman to try at least once. Once you arrive, you will be greeted by a staff member, and then you change into a robe. After that you go into a room and lay on a flat surface. The scrubbing and washing process will begin and takes a good bit of time. All you have to do is relax. Your hair/face/pretty much entire body will get washed and your fingers will get pruny so be prepared for that lol. I wouldn't wear make up and I encourage bringing comfortable clothes to slip into after. You will feel brand new after this experience, I felt very clean and soft. read more

This was my first time doing Hammam, and it was the most relaxing body work I've ever had! All of the ingredients used are high quality and made in Fatima's family farm in Morocco. I booked a 90 minute and experienced: a warm beautiful room, a Black soap wash, a full body exfoliation, clay to draw out toxins, shampooing and conditioner with a scalp massage, a shower to rinse of the clay, finished with and a light massage with argan oil and rose water. I drank tea and ate homemade cookies after. Fatima takes great care to explain the process, and does everything with intention and care. I have done hammam before so, I knew what to expect and Fatima gives you an authentic experience! Fatima is very nice, polite and professional. The treatment room is very nice, warm and has a dimmed light. The ritual starts by applying a thin layer of black soap all over your body - followed by rinsing with lots of water. Brushes your dead skin from your body with a glove. You will be amazed by the resulting dead skin left on the table after the treatment. Right after there is a purifying mask that will absorb all impurities from your skin. Also, your hair gets a nice brushing. She ends session by re-hydrating your skin with pure Argan oil that is rich in vitamin E, which is from her family's farm from Morocco as well as the clay and soap that she uses. This is an excellent, relaxing and an authentic experience! And very good for skin especially in the fall and winter when your skin gets dry. No dry skin in your elbows and feet. The Argan oil makes your skin soft and your body feels absolutely great! The owners of the business are very nice and informed me about parking in the area. They have few parking spots and there is a parking garage next door that is free on Sundays (it's a busy parking garage). read more

The Hammam Bethesda is a beautiful place, with original art and traditional Moroccan accents. Fatima and Ahmed met me at the door with a warm handshake. Fatima explained all the products she uses (black soap, clay and argon oil from her family's farm in Morocco). She also explained their benefits.
