I had been letting my hair grow out for a while and the southern humidity and a rainy day finally pushed me over the edge to pull the trigger on cutting my hair short. I called a few places that had decent yelp reviews for "men's hair". The first call could get me in much later in the day. The next didn't have an opening until late evening. But whomever answered the phone at the Boardroom was a sweet as she could be. She said she had a chance to squeeze me there in about 15 minutes. Perfect. Siri said I was about three minutes around the corner. She said, "Well we will see you then". I walked in and was greeted with a smile and offered a cold drink. I don't imbibe, but really appreciated the bottle of cold water. Shalenia came to the lobby and escorted me back to her station. I showed her a couple of references of what I was looking to get done and this woman knew the assignment! The clippers came out and I was already feeling like a new man. Once she finished the cut she asked if she could tidy up the eyebrows. This woman lined up my brows, mustache and beard perfectly. But wait we aren't done yet. She took be back for the shampoo and hot towel treatment. I was just looking for a quick haircut. I ended up being treated to the single best salon experience I have ever had. Hands down. I have always wanted to find a place like this but the ones that I have tried have always come up short. I wasn't expecting any treatment like this and left there blown away by every aspect of my time there. AND she nailed the cut right off the bat! Like I said, I showed her two pics of styles I liked on Pinterest and she took those ideas and just ran with it. I have never had a cut come out this foot right off the bat. I'm picky and usually have to spend a day or two styling it differently until my hair looks the way I want it to look. Not this time. A quick pass with some product and a little tweaking and my hair looks great. My wife loves the look too, and she really liked me with longer hair. Oh, and when I went up to pick up that product and pay the bill, that same sweetheart that welcomed me in said, "So this time we got you the express cut service. Next time we will make sure you get the full service." Ummm, WHAT?!? You mean there's more? I can't quite remember everything else they offer, but I can't wait to find out. Say what you want, but men want to be pampered like this every bit as much as women do. Whether they admit it or not. The only downside is that I live in Arkansas. But I do travel through Tennessee quite often. So now I'll have to schedule my business trips around my need for a haircut. Now was it cheap? Nope. But was it worth three times what I paid? Absolutely! This isn't a walk-in clipper job at SuperCuts. This is an experience that every guy needs to treat themselves to, at least once in their lives. Ladies (or fellas) spoil your man with a trip here. Guys, you really do owe it to yourself to see what it's like to have a men's styling lounge done right. So thank you, Shalenia for an amazing cut and an experience that will stick with me until my next trip down. And Thanks to the rest of the crew for making this the best salon visit ever. My stylist (Amber) not only found a way to cut through my overgrown sheepdog mop of hair, she managed to pretty much replicate the style in the photo that I brought in for guidance. So yeah, I liked the haircut a lot. More importantly, my wife thought it looked good. I appreciated Amber's good humor, her attention to detail, as well as the hot towel treatment and scalp massage she administered while washing my hair after the cut. I felt like the cut was excellent value for the money (men's cuts start at $25, women's cuts starts at $40, per the salon's website). My only quibble? It would be nice if there were a coat closet or rack or something in the waiting room so that customers don't have to try to hang winter coats on small hooks next to the styling tables. I did like the fact that there was both hot coffee and cucumber water on offer in the waiting room, although I did not have a chance to try either. However, a few months ago, a young lady named Christina, cut my hair at the Concord Village Great Clips Salon at Nolensville Road and Concord Road in Brentwood, TN. I was amazed at how well she did, not just the first time, but on every occasion since the first one. And not only me. My wife has always complimented how well my hair has looked after Christina cut it. When I asked her about her experience and why she did such a good job, Christina told me she was a recent graduate of a hairstyling school in Murfreesboro (I think those specifics are correct). I'm sure that had a strong influence on her ability, but I think it was also her attitude to do well as proven by her work. I am a 66-year-old male with the need of creativity on the part of a hairstylist because of thinning hair and a pronounced "cow-lick" on the back of by head. Most times past hairstylists would cut the "cow-lick" area that would result in my hair looking like a bristled porcupine for 2-3 weeks later. But not with Christina. Consequently, whenever I am preparing to get my haircut, I always call the Concord Village Great Clips Salon to make sure Christina is working there before I go. Mine was about the worst hack since I was a kid, long wavy thinning hair does not need shredding on the ends, the result was positively pubic! I was assured that beard cream would fix it. My wife tried a different stylist to trim her ends blunt, she was convinced to have a "little layering" and walked out looking like a grey haired Jennifer Aniston. She was miserable by the time she got home. I went in person and told them how unhappy my wife and I were but only got an attitude that it was somehow our fault. Managment had our phone numbers and had ample opportunity to at least apologize that we were not satisfied customers, I'm still waiting on that one. So here is the result, bad haircuts = bad review, one star because the drinks are OK (but there is an up charge for call brands).
