First time visiting Hammer & Nails (Reston) after trying a few other higher-end barbershops in northern VA. It most definitely will not be my last. Scheduling an appointment was easy, and the manager or front desk staff with whom I spoke was courteous and professional. This could have also been done online, I believe. I needed a haircut and beard trim, and I decided to get a manicure as well to get a good sense of the services offered. My appointment was for 10:30, and they were running a little behind when I arrived (which was about 5 minutes beforehand; it would have been earlier except I had to download an app and pay for the nearby parking in Reston Town Center, so be aware if you don't regularly visit RTC), but the front desk was very apologetic and offered me beverages, plus the seating is comfy. I wasn't in any hurry anyway, so it wasn't a big deal, and I got into the barber chair at about 10:45. I should note here that I had some very specific requirements for my haircut. I am currently in a theater production, so I had very strict restrictions on what I could and could not do with my hair and beard. I was very impressed how - at multiple stages in the booking and appointment process - the professionals at H&N listened to me carefully and took notes of my concerns. Even the gentleman at the front desk (whose name escapes me, unfortunately) was aware that I had some requirements, and he made an effort to communicate that to me. The barber who gave me my haircut and beard trim was nothing short of outstanding. A true professional who very clearly cares about and genuinely seemed to enjoy what he was doing, he listened carefully to my requirements, and then found what I would consider just about the perfect way to style my hair for the circumstances I described. This was easily my best barber experience in the northern VA area in many, many years. I mean, how many places could you go and tell them, "I need to be both a madman and then transform into a Victorian era British gentleman," and trust that they can find a way to style your hair? His card says, "Cut and Shave Artist." It's the truth. KC - fantastic job! I also enjoyed the manicure. The woman who performed it (who I don't believe gave me her name, unfortunately) was professional though quiet. She did a very good job - though I am not a manicure expert and only have them infrequently - and the forearm massage was easily the best part, closely followed by the paraffin treatment. This is my new favorite barbershop. If the service remains this good, I will be a customer for the foreseeable future. Next time I go back, I plan to get a membership! Original 2022 Review: I went on opening day for this H&N location for a premium haircut + classic beard grooming and it was an excellent experience through and through. My cut, the pampering, and genuinely kind staff were well worth the price. I'm really looking forward to my next appointment to get the same sharp look again, my barber Luis did a phenomenal job! December 2024 Update: Reaffirming my 5 star review as I have continued getting all of my haircuts here at H&N, every 4 weeks or so. The Classic Club membership is worth every penny for me. I've had the honor of having KC as my barber after my first cut and KC has been outstanding. He helped me find a cut that worked for my hair and style preferences and over the past two years we've tweaked it so that it is simply "the usual" though it looks anything but, and he executes it perfectly every time. I have also gotten straight razor shaves, beard trims, and even eyebrow, nose, and ear waxes done by KC, always with the same professionalism, humor, and care I expect from him. I am incredibly thankful for KC's artistry and the lovely team at H&N Reston for taking care of me these past two years. Cheers to many more! read more

My previous barber retired after 25 years. I've been looking for a new one for a little over a year when I came across Hammer and Nails. Not only is the shop clean and modern but the staff have been very kind and professional during both of my visits to the Reston and Woodbridge shops. Rega did a fantastic job and, it being the first time he cut my hair, took a few extra minutes to talk about how I liked my hair cut, what he planned to do, and styling recommendations. He said, "Tell me if there is something you are not happy with - I will keep working until you are absolutely satisfied with your cut." My hair hadn't looked this good since my original barber. Cannot recommend this place enough. Prices are $10-$20 more than what I usually pay but for $65 (cheapest option) you get a haircut, shampoo, scalp massage, and hot towel with a barber who really knows what they are doing compared to $20-$40 shops where you only get a haircut and it is a coin flip if you're going to be wearing a hat for the next two weeks. read more

The Reston, VA Hammer and Nail Salon provides a great atmosphere, very welcoming and accommodating, professional and courteous staff, highly skilled in their craft! I greatly enjoy coming to a salon specifically dedicated to showcasing the unique needs and preferences of men! I've joined as a founding member and have received grooming, facial, and nail services now twice. Each time I have been impressed with the services provided, and my groomer (KC (Tommy)) and nail professional (Mia) provided absolutely outstanding high quality services and at a reasonable price that is directly comparable to their skilled tradecraft! Went to the Reston location for a first time experience and it was nothing short of amazing. The staff were welcoming, helpful, and professional. I was able to get a phenomenal medi and pedi with a lovely glass of wine and my own personal television to watch NFL that came with high quality Bluetooth headphones. Ms. Kayla was absolutely stunning. She was gentle, provided suggestions and personal advice. She made the experience 1000 times better by having reasonable conversation, confirming comfortability, etc. Kayla was outstanding and I am now in the process of purchasing a membership for my future self care. Jaz did an excellent job giving me the exact haircut I wanted. I often get anxious while getting my hair cut because of bad experiences in the past, but his confidence made me feel comfortable and he did a fantastic job. Getting married this weekend with the haircut he gave me and I couldn't be happier! I didn't try any of the other add ons, but they gave me a tour of the place before my haircut and they seem great if you are into that, I may try some of them the next time I am in. Incredible service, I walked in for the first time and was shown around and immediately taken care of. Rega took great care of me, taking what I told him and knowing exactly what to do with it. For what you pay, you should expect the best service and this place has the best service! Simeon was an outstanding barber and he took his time and this turned my hair cut into a masterpiece! Went in for a haircut today and saw Keith. He is the absolute best. Really knows his craft and is a pro. Best experience I've had in a long time, knew exactly what I wanted. will be a lifelong customer as long as Keith works there! 10/10 would recommend. Outside of the haircut, the place is super nice. I surprised my guy with a manicure and pedicure for his birthday. He had such an amazing experience that we purchased a membership so he can come back every month to maintain his hands and feet. The staff took great care of him and made him feel so welcome and comfortable which is something that most guys are not used to at the typical barber/nail shop. Had my first visit to Hammer & Nails for Premium Beard Grooming. I really enjoyed the experience from beginning to end. Simeon (Licensed Master Barber) asked what I was looking for regarding my beard shape and trim. Simeon did amazing beard shaping and facial treatments.
