Booked a fishing charter with Hammer Down on the Snake River. Captain Jonny is very knowledgeable of the history of the area and an avid fisherman. I can't give enough praise for such a great experience. Captain Jonny put us on a monstrous 7.5 foot 200 pound sturgeon that my twin 11 year olds were able to reel in and release. From the first phone call to Hailey in the office to book the charter, to the owner Homer greeting us in the morning, to Jonny's enthusiastic work ethic, to Homer's mom supplying a delicious lunch and dinner, you will find nothing better in Idaho, let alone the rest of the world! Absolutely amazing experience. Had my son and fiancé come from Alaska for a visit and they had the time of their lives. First trip was a dinner cruise on the Salmon River. Excellent steak dinner on the beach cooked and served by Harry and Jeanie. The next day we chartered a boat for fishing on the Snake River. All my son wanted to do was catch a sturgeon and boy did we. Caught quite a few bass and trout as well. Couldn't have asked for a better experience and even more outstanding memories. Be prepared for an experience of a lifetime! I have been on their Lower Salmon River Fishing Tour and their Hells Canyon Dam Tour. Two very different experiences on 2 different rivers. Just the thrill of being on a Jet Boat with the magnificent scenery is enough, but this Homer and crew at Hammer Down, makes it so much more. Their captains are cute, kind, professional, and have great personalities that make you feel appreciated and a part of the tour. The lunch on the Hells Canyon Tour was homemade, we had chicken breast, two salads, and a homemade strawberry dessert served in cute little glass mason jars. All around a first class experience. Another successful trip on Hammer Down River Excursions! I booked a Steelhead fishing trip for me and three friends. None of the guys I brought have ever fished for Steelhead. Our guide was patient and very instructive. By early morning all of them were fishing like pros! We opted for the lunch option and as on all previous trips was amazing! Homer Brown was an awesome guide and helped us land an 8 ft sturgeon on our trip! We were going to fish for salmon but he changed the trip the day before to sturgeon/bass/trout to give us a better experience. He is obviously a very experienced fisherman and everyone around White Bird and Riggins knows who he is. Super nice guy, knowledgeable, good gear, and awesome boat! Absolutely love this guide service! Homer knows the area and we have caught fish both times we have gone out with them! Our last trip was the day before Thanksgiving with multiple families and we went on the Snake River fishing for steelhead! Two boats, about 19 people of all ages. I took my 13 year old son on his first fishing trip on the Salmon River. The entire crew at Hammer Down were incredible. This was my first time sturgeon fishing and as an Idaho native I cant believe I haven't done this before! Just got home from a 2-day stay with Hammer Down. I'm an Outdoor Writer and hunt and fish non-stop. But this trip was magical! It started off on the short drive to the river dock. On the way the wildlife viewing was awesome. We saw multiple flocks of turkeys with strutting toms, bighorn and elk.
