Getting right to it......Outstanding brisket and pulled pork. Not a chain - and you can taste it. The atmosphere is rustic and awesome. Temperature was a bit warm, however, the BBQ is distractingly great - so it didn't matter! Fine beer selection and the staff was welcoming. Holy smokes this smoked pork is the BOMB! HammerDown opened up in an old storefront and it took a few months for it to open but the food is certainly worth it. So far I have had the ribs and the pulled pork. The ribs melt in your mouth and the pulled pork and sweet BBQ have that southern flavor that screams Georgia Barbecue. However, for the folks that like Carolina BBQ, they have a pretty good NC style sauce. I have yet to try some of the Memphis heat but they were brewing some up in the back and it smelled amazing out in the front. read more

Great food! Love the Pork ribs they were so good omg and with the spicy sauce so much yum! I love the decor of this place and the easy vibe. The process to order is a bit slow as there was one girl cutting and weighing out the orders. They can improve upon that as the wait is longer than necessary and the line starts to back up. Delicious BBQ! It's easy to order and the vibe of the place is very friendly. The manager on duty even thanked me for joining them! I had the brisket and it was so tender and tasty. I did try some of their homemade BBQ sauce , which was sweet and delightful. You don't need much because the meat has so much flavor. I had the coleslaw as my side and it was cool and Crunchy. I have eaten here a few times, the food is good but not spectacular. It's definitely a notch down from Mission BBQ. But it is closer than Mission so depending on traffic I might just eat here or most of the time I'm willing to drive the extra 30 min to get Mission. Now onto the food, the pulled pork here is really wet and not alot of flavor. The Mac and cheese is really plain and I could basically make that at home and will taste better. The brisket is amazing, must try. The ribs are not fall off the bone good, but they are decent and will do in a pinch. All in all it isn't bad here, but they only thing I'll buy from here is the brisket anymore. Everything else I'll drive into Fairfax and get Mission just because they do so much better all around. read more

I ordered a brisket and pulled pork platter.They pulled the brisket from a covered pan to slice it. The brisket had been sitting in liquid in the pan so it had little to no smoke flavor and the texture of roast beef. The pulled pork was a bit soggy and pretty salty. Both looked like they were going to taste good, but sadly no. Their "original" BBQ sauce is store bought with buffalo sauce added. I am fairly confident no one was in the back brewing brown sugar and spices to get an original sauce. If you are looking for Texas or Carolina style BBQ, this is NOT the place to go! Sadly, Famous Daves and Red Hot are better options. I was sincerely hoping for good smokey BBQ. Which you can see the smoker and smell driving in, but technique must cause it to be lost in the atmosphere and not in their meat. I'm pleased to say that I returned to Hammerdown as had a completely opposite experience from my first visit, and I even got to eat this time. I vowed to not go back, but was feeling guilty that I never gave the food a actual shot. Their dining room was packed so I ordered to-go. I got was the brisket sandwich. It was really good, and almost as juicy as I prefer. You can taste the peppery rub on the outer bits of the brisket. I also sampled both of their sauces. The hot sauce is excellent, I think it has scotch bonnet or habanero. There was still a very slow checkout process, but the employees were all very nice. With the food being good my rating reflects the price tag, $10 for a sandwich is theme park prices. read more

Good solid homemade BBQ. Kind of pricy but worth it. Make your own cornbread though, theirs is bland and dry.

Brisket is the best around and hard to come by in this area. Excellent smoke ring and taste amazing! So far my favorite sides are mac'n cheese the potato salad could of used some salt and pepper. Definitely will be back to try the bake beans and more mac'n cheese. Family friendly with high chairs available. Love the hand washing station. read more

I was craving some BBQ near the end of the week and I wanted to treat my wife and some old coworkers. It's been a very long time since I visited and thought I would just take a chance...I'm glad I did. I use to think how could they compete with Pit Stop? Well they are open more days and I have to admit, I enjoyed the food a lot more! I ordered a lot; pulled pork, brisket, ribs, mac n cheese, coleslaw, green beans...all were VERY good!!! The pulled pork disappointed me last time, but everything was perfect, well almost perfect for me. I hate fat, the brisket pieces I ate were very fatty, so it wasn't for me. My wife's coworkers, family, and my old coworkers all LOVED the brisket and the rest of the food. The Mac n Cheese blew my mind, it has a smokey taste that put's it above any other I've had, I could eat that all day until I die. I should have thrown some pulled pork in to it! Maybe I didn't really give the sauces a chance last time, but DAMN they are GOOD, very VERY good! Well worth the trip and the restaurant is nice inside. read more

Meh... Got 2 meats and 2 sides. The pulled pork was ok. Moist and Smoky. The brisket was over half fat. Flavor of the little meat that was there was ok. But way too much fat. Left a pile of fat on my tray. The baked beans were avg at best. The potato salad was just ok. We just happened to be out that way when we came across this place. Would not make a special trip out there. No reason to go back. There are chains out there that are better. read more

I was really surprised that this restaurant has so many stars. I was extremely disappointed on a Sunday afternoon. At 4:00 they were out of every type of meat except chicken and sausage. They had no banana pudding. And they also ran out of sweet tea. And they had 3 more hours until closing. It was fairly expensive for 2 bbq chicken sandwiches, 3 sides and 2 drinks for more than $30. Thank goodness we didn't order beer or our bill would have been closer to $50. If the food was outstanding it would be worth the price, but the potato salad was tasteless and the baked beans were so-so. If you want bbq on a weekend you're better off making the drive to Warrenton to Shawn's. read more

This place had a good reputation so I have them a try. I do not mind spending and dining out but their pricing was ridiculous for what it is. The a la carte rack of ribs was $30. This does not include any sides or corn bread or anything. Sides are $3 each. The quality was average. The ribs were large and tender but exceptionally fatty. The Mac and Cheese should have been exceptional but it was quite flavorless except for a hint of Horseradish flavor that does nothing for Mac and Cheese. The staff was pleasant and the restaurant was nice and clean. So overall nothing was terrible on our visit but the food did not warrant the price. A rack of ribs with 2 sides is $36 ... why? The sandwich prices appear to be a better value and the BBQ platter for $19 will have 4 Ribs. read more

Very good BBQ and very nice people. Had two sandwiches, the brisket was moist and peppery, tasty. The pulled pork was moist and smokey. Also, the bread was good, not dry and didn't fall apart. Go to place for BBQ in the Aldie, VA area. Chicken, pork, and beef are all great, sides are yummy, and a great selection of local beers on tap. OK, I do wish their BBQ sauces were a bit better, but that is probably more preference (mine) than not being good - so no hit to the star rating. read more

Great little bbq place in an area where there really isn't much else. My family really likes their green beans which are fresh and have a slight crunch to them unlike some other bbq places that definitely use canned. I love brisket, HOWEVER not a huge fan of theirs. It's really not bad, but I figure if I can make it better at home then it's not worth forking over money for. Their chicken is the best thing in the menu, which I typically never order chicken at a bbq joint. Will definitely come back, but here on out I will only get the chicken from this place. read more
