AWFUL.
That's a nice way of putting my experience(s) at Hampton Family Dental.
My first time there, I went in because they were having a cleaning and xray new patient schedule and I had a wisdom tooth that was KILLING me. After checking out my XRAYs, the dentist told me I needed my wisdom teeth out ASAP, which I agreed because one had been bothering me on and off for months. I scheduled an appointment to get all four of my wisdom teeth out that Friday.
I wasn't to worried about having them out, because I've had 11 teeth pulled before! (My baby teeth wouldn't fall out, all had to be extracted.)
They told us the procedure would be an hour/hour and a half TOPS. They said that was an overestimate too, as it never takes them that long, even when the teeth are impacted.
So, any other dentist other the sun would have put me under general anesthesia or conscious sedation. All they used was the "laughing gas" which did NOTHING. I got a million shots of novicane and he started in.
It took 3 hours! My whole body would jump in pain. I've had 11 teeth pulled, ribs and a hand broken, and this was the worst of all!
He was soooo hard on my jaw, and it was pried open for almost 3 hours straight. I would have to point under my tongue and squeak periodically because shards of teeth and bone was getting lodged under my tongue and throat making it hard to breathe. The intern that was in the room watching felt sick and had to leave!
They had me wear headphones and listen to music to not be able to hear the breaking and cracking of teeth and bone- it didn't do a thing! Tears ran down my face the whole time. I have a super high pain tolerance and I can't even explain how painful this was.
FINALLY, 3 hours later, he finishes, looks down at me and goes *F*CK* and walks out. I head in to the waiting room and the girl at the front starts chuckling saying "OMG that's the LONGEST anyone's EVER been in there getting their wisdom teeth out- we were worried you died!" Comforting!
So- for the next week all I could do was sleep, sip on frozen drinks, take pain killers and cry. The pain was beyond belief. Back to work in 3 days was BS, it would have been almost 3 weeks! I literally couldn't be awake or the pain was so bad I would vomit.
I went back twice complaining of the pain, with a face obviously swollen way more then it should have been. They opened my mouth and sent me home with more pain killers, hardly even looking to see if something serious was going on. Each time I went back all they did was send me home with more antibiotics and steroids. The answer for all their problems, or so they think.
(Mind you, they never sent me home with any care directions. Apparently, most dentists send you home with a plunger like thing to help flush out any debris from the healing holes. They gave me nothing. I went and bought it myself after being told by so many people that its SOOOO BAD that they never gave me one or told me how to clean out the wounds and prevent infection.)
So, after a month of pain and swelling I was visiting my parents and in horrible pain. My face was swelling up and I couldn't talk, so I went to the ER. While there, the Dr. told me I really need to go back to my dentist and make sure he understands how much pain i'm in and something is wrong! They didn't find signs of infection, just a terrible wisdom tooth removal job.
I went back to the dentist AGAIN the next day. This time, the dentist that did the extractions didn't even come in to look, it was the intern who got sick during the extraction.
They did a full xray of my jaw this time. What did he see? NOTHING. And then, it was suggested I had pill seeking behavior! I am a person who believes in and seeks holistic/alternative medicine and healing 100&!! I do everything I can to avoid prescription drugs and then this place that destroyed my jaw told me I have pill seeking behavior!!?!!!?!?!
So, for the next few months I had headaches everyday. The left side of my face would periodically swell and make it hard to talk and eat. I KNEW something was wrong, but just kept trying to tell myself a TERRIBLE dentist did a TERRIBLE job removing my wisdom teeth.
A couple weeks ago (and more then 3 months after having them removed) I started feeling something rubbing against my back teeth. I knew it wasn't food, because it didn't go away. Finally, I had my husband look and he pulled a massive piece of bone from the 90% healed over hole in the back of my mouth. A piece of bone that they MISSED! The intern didn't even notice it in the xray!
They try to tell me it's "pill seeking behavior" and basically in my head and then this sharp, massive piece of bone is pulled out by my husband!
Now, I called around to different dentists, because it could have been something called a bone spicule, but it wasn't! IT WAS A GIANT PIECE OF LEFTOVER BONE!
