There are ample restaurants around the hotels and a Starbucks right out the door you can walk to without Crossing a road. We opted to go to a bar a couple of miles down the road (Gabby Goat) to watch a Packer game and came back to our room at half time as the game started at 7:20 and we were tired from driving all day. The lobby area was decorated beautifully for the Christmas holidays. As we came back from dinner we noticed 7 small decorated Christmas trees on a table. They were made by employees and guest were invited to vote on their favorite. There was also a cute present wrapping area. How fun. Super friendly staff. Our room was comfortable, quiet and clean. We had a standard king size rom that was roomy with a desk and side chair. The 40 inch tv to finish watching the game was awesome. My husband had some breakfast of sausage and potatoes and an orange to go. Standard breakfast fare. I was going to see if they had a grab and go bag as we checked out around 9 am but forgot. Starbucks chai tea from next door was going to have to do. We travel from WI to FL every year in December and Effingham has been a lunch stop. But we recently moved 3 hrs north so had our first overnight here and we plan on staying here each year going forward. read more

The location was clean, staff were friendly and helpful, but what goes above and beyond is that I left behind my IPad. Before I even know it was missing I received a call from Kami telling me that Paige from housekeeping had turned it in and they took the time to ship it to me at my vacation destination. Stopped here en route to Kansas and after 10 hours of driving we called this halfway and got a room. I am a long time Hampton Inn guest, Hilton Honors member etc. so I know the lay of the land when it comes to Hampton Inns and what is expected. Upon checkin I wasn't given my standard Honors complimentary items like water etc, which was troubling but oh well. My room was pretty standard, though the layout was kind of odd. The bed was over in a corner and the room was almost flipped Bathroom was a little older in terms of things but at the very least the room was clean. As for the breakfast, they served small omelettes (my favorite) and sausage coins. Once again only being there one night I couldn't really run around, but the good news is this is located right near various food places- just don't expect Uber (there isn't one) read more

It was a dark and stormy May night in 2019. I was driving cross country and started my day in Scranton Pa. I had hoped to make it another hour to St Louis but it was just to bad out to keep driving. I made a quick stop, pulled up my Hilton app and looked for the closest location to the highway. I found this Hampton inn and dialed up a room, paid with the app and got ready for my hour drive still ahead of me. About 20 mins later I got a call from the hotel. Was a lovely young lady who noticed my reservation and wanted to confirm that I was aware I had booked a smoking room. I confirmed it was ok because I was more looking to save a few bucks and I had fabreeze in the car, she said they had some as well if needed. I arrived in a downpour and was able to find a space not to far from the entrance. It was storming and raining so hard they advised the few of us checking in that most of the town was closing up and nothing was delivering, but they had a few snacks and just made fresh popcorn. They had me at popcorn!!! It was a nice little set up to arrive to. Fresh made in a popcorn machine and several different flavor shakers to choose from. I made my way up to my room with my snack. Found my room and was ready to settle in for the evening. Not a thing wrong with the room. I would honestly have never known it was a smoking room. Was clean and lovely. Bed was comfy, large TV , clock and usb outlets a plenty. Breakfast was several options and some different microwave sandwich and omelet selections. Cereal, juices and fruit along with other continental breakfast items. I made a quick breakfast and back on the road. I will certainly stay here again on my next way across. Hopefully I will stay a little later and hit the Boos outlet right across the parking lot. read more

The check-in was amazing. Very fast, easy, and professional. She asked if I was a Hilton honors member and I said yes along with being a AAA member as well. The price for the non-smoking room was $30 dollars higher but I paid the higher price for being a non-smoker in the Mid-West. I have always been scared to stay in Hampton Inn because of a prior experience years ago, but this location has changed my mind. The was clean, the bathroom was nice, shower was clean no stains in the walk-in shower, the king bed was nice in comfortable, and the room was very clean. I'm a picky person but this very nice. This is the best hotel I've stayed in in a long time. I travel a great deal for Work and personal travel. I almost exclusively stay in the Hilton Brand and this hotel is by far the cleanest, I have been in, in quite sometime. The staff were amazing and very friendly. The night staff were great to work with and took great care to get me checked in even though I was extremely late arriving. Karen and Mackenzie were awesome. Any bad reviews that you see appeared to be more than five years old, clearly the management has made some major improvements in the hotel and personnel. I recommend this place to anybody. read more

My choice of abodes when I'm in town because it truly stands out from the others. Most of the other chains are typical to their formula models but this one is not. Perhaps it's because the facility is newer than the others (built in 2012) and they have 4 floors, a swimming pool, a great fitness center that is actually a fitness center, and a jacuzzi. There is also a level of elegance here that's not found in the others. The breakfast room, for example, has a two floor ceiling and an elevated island bar of marble in the center. It made me decide to have breakfast here instead of going out! Then there are countless other "little things" like elevators that are fast & silent as well as a huge parking lot with extra room for car doors to open and on and on. I checked in without a reservation at 11pm on a Tuesday. The girl at the front desk told me there was only one room left, the King Studio which was a smoking room. I'm not a smoker and she sensed I was skeptical, so she let me go up and check the room out before deciding. It smelled like beef jerky that was left sitting out on a blackjack table, but it's a smoking room so whatever. I was too lazy to find another hotel so I took that one for $130. Pros: spacious, breakfast, good service, clean fitness center. Cons: found a stain on the top blanket on the right side near the head of the bed. The thicker curtains don't close all the way so you get some dim street light in the room. Overall the staff was pretty accommodating and it was a quiet uneventful stay. I won't come back because I felt more suspicious of the cleanliness of this hotel that I normally do. Assuming the stain was just a fluke. read more

We have been traveling for over a week and this is the nicest roadside hotel we have stayed in while in route to next destination. It smelled very clean when we walked into the building, got off the elevator and entered our room. The community bathrooms in lobby even have complimentary female products in a basket on the back of the toilet. They served the hot breakfast in buffet style with the hostess serving everything for you. That was a nice change from the bag breakfasts we were getting at other places. A quick in and out stay at this hotel on our way south - seemed a lot nicer than some of the other hamptons we have stayed in! The only thing holding me back from five stars is that I didn't try the pool or whirlpool due to lack of time. Our room (402) was a two queen/queen pullout with plenty of space. Clean bathroom, and nice little touches like a bag of microwave popcorn and dish soap at the sink. The fitness room was large with three treadmills, a bike, elliptical, weights, and a cable cross type machine. The staff serving breakfast were super friendly. A hotel breakfast is a hotel breakfast, so we'll just leave that alone, but the coffee was hot and the rest of the place just looked well kept and well-managed. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. read more

I was given a room that channels weren't working on tv, they sent a very pretty woman up to my room and she handed mE keycard for another room that tv was working on. So I was switched rooms all in About 5 minutes time. If she didn't say she was marrieD I i would have asked to take her to dinner. This hotel is clean and well maintained. We stayed at this hotel on our way to Michigan and were so pleased with it that we booked a stay on our return trip home. The return trip stay we reserved a king bed suite and they gave us a wheelchair accessible room. This room is fantastic!!! It's perfect for someone who needs a wheelchair. All the bathroom fittings look brand new, there's a foldable bench in the bath tub with a, there's a phone next to the toilet and the bathroom is spacious enough to maneuver a wheelchair. PLUS this room is for hearing impaired people! read more

Bought $200 2-room suite for the night as we pass through. Sofa in the living room has stained seat cushions and you sink way deep in the sofa- which is a sleeper sofa when you sit down. Needs replacement for sure. Breakfast is the usual you'd find in US motels and hotels, pre-made and formed "western omelette", oatmeal, the obligatory waffle maker, bacon was good. A few cold cereals. Limited selection of yogurts/fruit. Lots of breads. Basically a carb filled offering. Only 1 kind of pillow on the bed- all 4 are so soft like a worn feather pillow. People like me who like firmer pillows have to put 2 together then spend a restless night arranging and rearranging them... For $200+ for the night I expected a non-stained sofa that could actually be sat upon, and a selection of firm to soft pillows on the bed as lesser brands of motels offer....clean room though...just won't stay in room 128 again. UPDATE: I told the gentleman at the desk about the soiled sofa, just mildly making him aware and suggesting they clean, repair, or replace....and I made note in my Hilton app to let them know as well...15 minutes later I get a call saying they reversed the charges on my Amex, and apologized for the soiled sofa....great staff, well done. read more

This is the only place in Effingham I would stay at. Five families from my local congregation stayed here for three nights in July. The hotel was clean and the staff was courteous. If I was ever in the area again or passing through, this is the only place I would stay. Though there were softball teams and two weddings going on that weekend, we never heard anything from our room. It was a very quiet hotel. Pool area, lobby, hallways were all very clean. My friends and family stayed at this hotel for the weekend and you would not believe how poorly the staff treated us. When we arrived, it was clear that the staff had switched our rooms to accommodate other guests because we booked suites, but ended up in regular rooms or vice versa. Then we were harassed multiple times before 11 pm for playing our music too loudly when our grandmother staying down the hall didn't hear music once all night! The manager (Lisa) even threatened to kick us out and call the police if we didn't turn it off. After making it through a rough night with the manager handling a noise situation extremely poorly, the next morning some of our room keys no longer worked. When dealing with the front desk they blamed us for having the wrong keys and told us to try each others keys before they would issue new ones. 10 minutes later they checked our keys and as it turns out, they were the correct keys, they just get deactivated after each night (so if you stay more than one night you may have to get new keys each morning... it just depends on if you are lucky or not). We were also told that putting the keys near cell phones or credit cards can also deactivate them! When we went to check out at the end of our stay, we had been overcharged or charged the incorrect rate because they switched our rooms around and messed up the initial reservation for so many of us. Again, the staff insisted these were the correct rates and that we misunderstood when we made the reservation (who would pay $140 for a regular room... in EFFINGHAM! I can stay in a really nice hotel on Michigan Ave in Chicago for that price). Eventually, the front desk worker did fix the rates, but it took over 20 minutes of arguing with her for it to happen. Little did we know, 2 days later we all started seeing additional random charges on our credit cards from the hotel! We called and spoke with Lisa the manager and she said the girls at the front desk was mistaken and did not have authorization to change the rates so we were being charged the original amount... even though we NEVER agreed to pay that amount! This is still being sorted out and has resulted in many of us disputing the charges with our banks because the hotel management has shown no intention of helping resolve or alleviate the situation. All in all, the hotel is clean, the rooms are fine but nothing special, and if you are lucky you can stay here without a problem. My advice though, is to check into one of the other beautiful hotels right down the street (Holiday Inn) that cost less, have friendly staff, and wont turn your vacation or trip into a giant headache! read more
