An older, dated Holiday Inn but very clean and excellent customer service. The front desk employee was very friendly and enthusiastic when I checked in at 9 pm. My room was nice and very clean. I ordered room service as soon as I got to my room and it was delivered quickly. The salad was excellent and the hummus and pita bread appetizer was very good as well. I appreciated that this hotel was quiet. One issue I have had with hotels in Effingham is that it is hard to sleep due to the noise from the trucks in the interstate. Nearly all the Effingham hotels are located near the crossroads of two major interstates: I-70 and I-57. Both interstates have very heavy truck traffic 24 hours a day, and most of the hotels I have stayed in here are not quiet, you can hear trucks rumbling by all night long. This Holiday Inn is quiet, maybe because it is older and better built? I don't know but it was much easier to get a good night's sleep here. I appreciated that all the hand sanitizers were operational and full of sanitizer. Many hotels I visit have neglected to refill their sanitizers. read more

This was a visit worth the extra effort to get this distance, after driving some 700+ miles. I left sunny Florida, near Destin,FL and drove into the night. Of course I had to do this during the time change, so sunset happened earlier than normal. The Holiday Inn chain has a standard and this location filled that standard. I was greeted by Ryan at the front desk and he was a perfect fit for the job. I made the reservation on my cellphone, and didn't know what I was in for, it turned out to be a treat. I had met Kenny, the locations manager, and he helped me in the same manner. Needless to say I was exhausted after the long drive and I had dinner within the lobby. I wasn't sure if I could make the longer drive and everyone here made me feel like family. Thank you all for the great visit at Effingham's better hotel location, I will be back again. read more

My stay here was nice! Finally a hotel in the area that o truly enjoyed staying at. Staff were very nice and welcoming. Anything I needed I got in a timely manner. It's a very clean hotel also. That is key when saying at a hotel. I had no worries or concerns before going to sleep worrying about staying in a dirty room and sleeping in a dirty bed. There is a bar located downstairs. Boy was I happy to have that bar. I went down before bed and has a glass of wine to end my night. It was a vibe. They also offer breakfast in the morning which. Is a plus. You don't have to get up and go out to get it. It is not free. But the convenience is great. read more

This is the first time I've stayed in a HOLIDAY INN. I do frequent IHG properties, mostly Holiday Inn Express, so i was a little surprised that this brand does not include breakfast. The price is more and the rooms are basic. Honestly i can say now i will only stay at the EXPRESS. I PAID$150 for the night. And I'm not complaining as there was a huge storm, tornados and high winds and i just needed to get myself and grandkids off the road. I felt safe and that is what was important. They do have a full service bar and restaurant, swimming pool, gym, business center and conference rooms. I was a bit disappointed that the shampoo and conditioner were in individual travel bottles and they weren't even the same brand. And in a room with two beds there really should be two shampoos, conditioners and lotions. I do prefer the larger bottles that are installed in the shower and I'm kind of surprised the higher priced brand was skimping on products. I did like that the hairdryer had a night light! I usually bring my own as i hate turning the light on in the middle of the night. I hope other properties will follow suit with that. The room was small and basic but adequate.. the beds were comfortable. Shower was hot and welcomed after 4 hours on the road. The gentleman at the front desk was incredibly friendly. I appreciate the consistency of the IHG brand. I know I'll get a consistent room and friendly staff. The lobby was nicely decorated for the holidays. Coffee and tea were available in the morning, as well as the local newspaper. read more

I loved that Chris Keller and his team Kenny & Trevor made my family and I feel welcome. They did everything possible to ensure we had an enjoyable experience. In fact, they went above and beyond to accommodate every request we made. It was a very nice touch that the chef hand delivered my toast to my table and engaged in a small conversation. The housekeeping staff was respectful of privacy and always made sure our room was cleaned and restocked. All of the employees really made us feel at home. There is no other hotel in Effingham, Illinois that we would rather stay than in the Holiday Inn on Avenue of Mid-America. read more

Stayed at the Holiday Inn last night and the hotel was very nice. Attached is a huge party center that's great for wedding receptions and parties, etc. We attended a friend's wedding reception and the hall was decorated beautifully! The lighting, the food, the ambience, the size of the room were all perfect. We had a great time at this great venue. And having a hotel attached was awesome cuz we could drink and then crash. The only thing I didn't like was there wasn't a free breakfast, but that's okay because Ryan's serves a great breakfast buffet just down the street. The bed was comfortable and I slept very well. We needed a hotel between Columbus and St Louis. We decided on this hotel because it had a restaurant and bar. Keeping it simple. We were delighted the service was great at that bar. The restaurant was interesting. Many locals were eating inside, eating outside and at the bar ! We had salads- they were delicious. As well as the fresh baked bread. Stopped to stay while traveling through. Had a good conversation with night shift front desk during check-in. The room was large and comfortable. Beds and pillows great as always. Issue: hot water was not working (heater was having issues). Pro: Front desk sent up maintenance right away as they thought they had corrected the issue. When confirmed that it was not corrected they were apologetic and resolved my concerns with us taking cold showers. I also received a follow up call from the GM after having been on the road for a short while. This was again to apologize for the inconvenience and ensure I had no other issues. Our overall experience was outstanding and I would stay here again in a heart beat. Thank you for treating us with great service. read more

Effingham is at the intersection of I-70 and I-57, hence there are several hotels. We stayed in one of their queen suites, which was spacious with a separate sitting area and sofa bed and two queen beds. It had 2 TVs - so for the 4 of us - we could pursue separate tastes. Beds were very comfortable; reasonably firm; slept like a log after travel. We did go down and use the fitness center. A couple of ellipticals, treadmills, free weights, and a stationary bike. Attached is a sizable pool and whirlpool that others were enjoying. We ate at the restaurant for dinner - they had fancier fare beyond typical hotel food such as steak and salmon. Can sit inside or out. The place looks recently renovated; inside the lobby is trendy with a waterfall. Lots of shops nearby and restaurants and easy access to freeway. Highly recommend! read more

It all started with a cell call to the Front Desk before I got to Effingham from the road, the young lady was very professional and at the same time had a very friendly demeanor. The lobby and the rooms (Try the one bed room suite it's awesome) are the cleanest I've ever stayed at in any chain hotel and I use hotels a great deal, there were no Skunk or any other type of odor as earlier reviewed by someone else, the young lady at the front desk is **Kristal S** and she is the picture of Customer Service. Btw Walmart is very close for last minute travel needs before you go back on the road. read more

The room seems nice. We ordered room service. I ordered the spinach and artichoke dip. Came timely. My chips were potato chips. Dip looked dry, but I didn't have a chance to try it. When I opened the chips, I was disappointed. But when I felt the chips, I was done. The chips were very flimsy. Not crispy at all. Im talking hold a chip up, and watch it fold in half flimsy. They were moist. I couldn't believe it. As I showed my husband, I saw a bug crawling around the styrofoam container the chips were in. Im beside myself that someone served this. read more

This is a go to Hotel for us for our family. The suites are nice and spacious and the staff always welcoming. Cookies to greet you and a smile at the front door. They have a delicious restaurant downstairs and its the only hotel in the area with a bar. Its nice to relax and have a drink after spending 6 hours in the car with a kid screaming. You have a pool thats never filled, and a hot tub that is nice a warm. its a large hotel and its always been quiet for us. I highly recommend. read more

Here is what I will say. Beautiful lobby, great bar area, and beautiful outside patio area which had me excited to see my room when I checked in. The customer service is also fantastic and employees were all very nice. My room unfortunately smelled of skunk when I walked in, especially in the bathroom which is not acceptable. My clothes the next day also smelled of this lovely scent. I did let front desk know after I had checked in that the couch in my room had large stains on it which were ultimately never cleaned as well. The second night I stayed there the smell thankfully was absent but it's hard to give a good rating to a foul smelling room. read more

Without a doubt the nicest Holiday Inn we have ever stayed at. The staff was very polite and professional. The room was clean, spacious and quiet. The restaurant was fantastic. They had live music. We had a steak you could cut with a fork. Liz the bartender really made our stay. She was very friendly and professional. She had a vast knowledge of the craft beers on tap as well as the scotch selection. If we ever pass through Effingham again we will be sure to stay there. read more

We went into the Holiday today for brunch and what we was seen was nothing but disappointment this establishment has went down hill. We showed up right at noon, not a single person here eating however there were SEVERAL dirty tables, BUT all the employees are sitting on their phones at the bar.. Hostess pointed us to the table and said yeah just sit there. RUDE. Walked over sat down without menus, table was dirty cups were dirty eggs on my chair. All the tables around us were dirty looked like they were left from the night before!! I've worked serving jobs so I know what it's like. BUT this was horrible.. I was disgusted and I'm the easiest person to please because I've been there I was a restaurant manager it's not an easy job but needless to say we won't be back after going there for many years and having wonderful service before. Went to the bar for a snack and a drink. A man was taking loudly and going on and on about how much money he made (100k/yr) and all of his women. The bartender kept serving him. He was swaying, getting louder and dropped his glass. He seemed to bark orders at the bartender. Others listened to the ramblings with smirks and rolling eyes. He had at least 3-4 drinks in that hour. Yelled, "I f*cked her" to his audience which is when I had enough. We were leaving and asked who that guy was. They said it was CHRIS THE OWNER, and he does this all the time. I think he needs some training. Not classy, unprofessional, offensive, unaware and boastful. read more

A decent looking hotel however when we checked in our room smelled like burnt burgers and in the morning it smelled of pancakes. Apparently we are above the kitchen. When I told the lady at the desk she said doesn't it make you hungry instead of offering a change. Actually it is disgusting and makes resting difficult. Great experience. Booking was easy, staff was friendly and pricing was excellent. The rooms were spacious and clean. Only downside was the parking, the lots were full and we had to drive around a few times then walk a good distance in the rain.
