The hotel is clean and well maintained- the room is cozy and clean, the only thing that bothers me when we first entered the room and turn the AC on because the room smells dampness and musty... maybe has not been used for couple days. So we let the Air going on while we went out for dinner. I also spray some air freshener (i am always bringing if i am staying in hotel). We came back few hours later the room smells good. We had no problem after that. The staff are friendly and helpful. oh the shower has no pressure at all. So showering takes twice as long to get rid of the soap and shampoo. Stayed here for about a week. Unfortunately parking is not included, and is charged at a rate of $21 per day but there is no where else to park besides the hotel parking lot so you kind of have to pay.. House keeping is offered every other day, but I know some Hampton locations have it daily. AYCE continental hot breakfast is included, but only from 6-9AM on weekdays and 7-10am on weekends. They had an area for hard boiled eggs the first 2 days but stopped offering it sadly There was no option for dairy free milk (like almond milk), only 2% low fat milk. Hot foods rotated between scrambled eggs or mini omelette and sausages or patty's. There was a station to make your own waffle as well as cereal and bread. There were some significantly good things about Hampton Inn Poway though. I arrived an hour before check in and was able to leave my stuff with front desk staff. The staff and housekeeping is friendly. Rooms were big, quiet and did not have an odor. Fitness room had dumbbells ranging from 5 lbs to 80 lbs, a treadmill, peloton, and an elliptical. I'll start with a couple positives. Complimentary breakfast was fair. Shower amenities but they seemed diluted and cheap. Room was clean. However, it's the little things like a confusing as heck remote control, so that made it hard to relax after a long day. A guide in the room would help. The room was NOT cozy or comfortable. Had a lot of extra empty space, one small chair, felt weird. Lobby and eating area were dirty, needs to be cleaned as people eat? Noisy neighbors and most importantly the front desk staff were NOT friendly or welcoming! A "thank you" or how can we help you could go a long way. Please someone look into this. the room was clean and quiet--credit where it's due--but that's where the positives end. I specifically booked this hotel because I needed a quick breakfast before an early departure. What they don't tell you until you arrive is that breakfast on weekends doesn't start until 7am. What kind of hotel caters to travelers but delays breakfast just because it's a weekend? Completely defeats the purpose of my stay. To make matters worse, they charge for parking. So not only did I overpay to leave my car in their lot, I ended up having to spend even more money on food elsewhere because they couldn't be bothered to offer a simple continental breakfast before sunrise. This place if off the beat and path, no reason to change for parking. There was plenty of it! If you're looking for convenience, look elsewhere. I want to give 4 star but ... I know in California they love charged parking fee to tourism that is one of the reason we gave 3 star. Place is very nice and quiet. I like it very much away from the crowd. I don't mind to drive to SD from here because it's very enjoyable drive. You can drive historic 395 routes avoid highway pretty good no traffic and most important away from chaos. The hotel room is good and clean. We are happy with the service. I hate to give 3 star for this specific Hampton inn, but the parking charge is bad service. Look at downtown San Diego is pretty much bad, they charged everything. We feel sad. I've lived in CA all of my life, until we retired to AZ but I come out every month to see my daughter & grandkids. They are now very involved in sports which leaves them hardly any free time to come visit us so last year I picked the kids up and came here for a few days of pool time & to give mom & dad a breather. Let me say that this hotel is right in the middle of an industrial center and it mostly has solo travelers staying there on business so it's not too convenient for extracurricular stuff to do. It's a good 20-40 minute drive to the zoo, Sea World, Old Town, SD Fair, etc. depending on very busy freeway traffic. Also, they charge $25/day for parking which is ridiculous!! The 3.9 star Yelp average is probably about right for this place. Here's the run down on them: Parking is ample, but just watch out for the premium spaces because they are reserved for Diamond members. Their prices are generally lower than or similar to comparable places in the area and places that are in decent neighborhoods in San Diego in general. They are in a business park type area and accross from a Costco that has a gas station. Their matresses are good, but their walls are a little thin. People on both sides of us were noisy and so much so after quiet hours (generally between 10PM-8AM at most places) that we people knock on our neighbor's door and ask them to keep it down twice. The front desk and housekeeping staff were friendly. The so-called "complimentary" breakfast (keep in mind this is always included in your room price) was comparable to similar places and was just fine. They are a bit further from the freeway, so count on taking more travel time to get anywhere. However, there are numerous good places to eat within a 15-20 min driving time and a few options accross the street such as Carl's Jr. On the whole, there are better comparable places in terms of quiet, proximity ot the freeway, and other destinations in San Diego for a similar price. However, if these guys had the best price, like they did on our recent trip, then we would stay there again and would recommend you give them a try for the same reason too. My family and I stayed at the hotel May 22 -24, 2025 as we were in town to attend a wedding. My parent's room was hot, and the carpet smelled musty/stinky. My parents had to endure the stench for two days as the AC would turn on for a few minutes and then shut off for a long time. My parents are in their late 70s mid 80s and I truly felt bad that they had to stay in a hot/stinky room. My room was musty as well. The carpet smelled like stinky feet. It was horrible. When we checked out of the hotel, we informed the staff that the rooms were stinky. The staff were apologetic and said they would look into this, but I am sure they are aware of the stinky odor. Also, there is daily $15 parking fee to park in the hotel parking lot, which I do not agree with as we are already paying for a room and parking should be free. I wrote my concerns and sent them to the email address provided on their website and I have yet to hear back from anyone. I guess they ignore comments/concerns. Stayed seven days. Room was large and useful for our purpose--commuting between children/grandchildren while spreading out luggage, etc. Front desk staff friendly (when there: no one there when we arrived at 9pm). Breakfast typical of this type of property. But: Parking is not free (as said on some sites), nor $10, nor even $15, because in addition to this fee there is a hidden "convenience fee" of $1 / day, total $16. You must use QR code (or text message) to a business not connected. Lobby and parking lot full of QR codes, which I found offputting. Also QR codes to leave a tip for housekeeping staff and there, too, they add a convenience fee to the tip. ($.46 on a $5 tip.) The third floor carpet is inexcusably foul--I've never seen anything filthier in a hotel. Large, apparently transient, family groups, filling breakfast room with kids in their pajamas, often coughing and sneezing. Bottom line: good location for us, but I doubt will come back. read more

I was visiting family but arrived late and wanted to self quarantine because that's the "IN" thing to do nowadays. :/ I like the fact there's no parking fee unlike SFO DoubleTree (I know you read that review) and only one set of elevators (don't remind me) The rooms are comfortable even with the main table in the middle of the room. And of course you can Never go wrong with the mini mini mini fridge. I hate those things. Location is perfect for those that need to get to the freeway fast or if hungry just go across the street to grab food. I highly DON'T recommend D' Soto's (I know you're gonna read that review after this). The reason for this title is Ivan the night manger. I had a pleasant conversation with him about the area and current news. He was very insightful and overall a great conversationalist . Good people work here. Overall four stars. Room is comfortable and people are great. I just don't like the table taking up all the space and that damn mini fridge. I think room service noticed this (because of the medicine and food we left out), and they did an extra good job cleaning our room. We were in a little bit of a situation where we needed an early early check-in as an early check-in was more the priority than the room type, 1 king bed or 2 queen beds, low floor/high floor, etc. We were helping up setting up a wedding close by and needed a place to shower & freshen up after working to get ready for the wedding. Whether or not a hotel could even have a room ready and available for early check-in is dependent on their occupancy from the night before since if it was booked completely, no rooms would be ready for the next guests until housekeeping thoroughly turned the room over for the incoming guests. We spoke to "Ivan" on the phone, who understood our situation and was able to get us pre-assigned to a room, as soon as we booked our 1-night stay online. Thankfully, we also checked-in with Ivan upon arrival and thanked him for his awesome customer service he provided. We got a nice room near the back entrance to the hotel by the pool. Our room was spacious, clean, and the hotel was well kept overall. So much so, it appeared brand new on the inside and out. We had nothing negative to report. Only praise for the hotel upkeep, the proximity to Carmel Mountain Ranch (the location of the wedding we were attending), and most of all, for Ivan's outstanding customer service he provided to us both on the phone and in-person. I hope the Hampton Inn management team sees this Yelp review and recognize this young man's hard work and attentiveness to the hotel guests. I booked this hotel so I can hike Iron Mountain that was only 8 minutes away. We checked-in around 10PM and the front staff was more than friendly and accommodating. Got us checked in efficiently and politely wished us a good night. The space was tidy and clean, I loved the bathroom. The only thing I'd mention is that their a/c system seems to be kind of old. Apparently they recently had it (their a/c system) deep cleaned (in following with pandemic regulations) and some leftover residue ended up burning in the system, set off our room's fire alarm. Scared the living shit out of me. But was glad that staff sent maintenance up quick when I called down to let them know. The room also comes with a mini fridge! The hotel also provides breakfast, albeit they weren't serving it like a normal buffet style like they used to, instead it's in paper bags. I appreciate the gesture, but the breakfast was kind of lame. It was more of a snack than a meal. It' was a small cup of juice of choice, muffin and an apple. How does anyone get full off of that? LOL. But it didn't bother me because it's a comp'ed meal, I just stashed it in the car to save as a snack on the trip back home. I overall enjoyed my stay even though I mostly was there to just sleep. read more

I have stayed here numerous times in the past and this will be my last time. You used to be able to get a room for around $115 a night. The price has gone up exorbitantly for just a no-frills hotel room. they have also started charging for parking, in a lot that they own. Five dollars now will go up to $10 a night after January 1. The price for dogs is also astronomical. $75 per dog. These hotels need to charge a dog deposit and if a persons dog destroys the room they get charged. Yes, the rooms are clean. Yes, there is a refrigerator and a TV and microwave. I guess next time I will need to stay at some spa and resort on the beach for less money. read more

Took an unexpected getaway down to San Diego, and selected this for price and reviews on a popular booking site. I will say for being super far out of the way of anything useful, it was a surprisingly nice hotel. Very clean, nice staff (rude as hell people checking in but that's not their fault), and the room was pretty good. Here's the highlights: The room really was clean and fairly comfortable. The TV channels actually worked, which was sort of amazing. The area was really quiet and the views at the pool were really stunning! The hot tub was great. Here's the downsides: The walls are very thin for a hotel, so you will hear neighbors. Also, the breakfast was a bit disappointing. The eggs were powdered, and the oatmeal was both over-cooked and crunchy AT THE SAME TIME! How that's possible, I don't know. If you want 13 kinds of bread, then you're set but not super great for those with wheat allergies. Overall, I liked the hotel and the setting. It was a relaxing getaway in a really distant location that felt removed from San Diego's excitement and breakneck pace of living. But, probably just go out to breakfast. read more

Nice hotel. The location is perfect to visit San Diego without staying in the expensive downtown hotels that even charge for parking. 35 minutes to go to the San Diego Zoo or Sea World. The rooms are well cleaned and the beds comfortable. Internet is pretty slow for downloads but ok for surfing the web. The toiletries are from Neutrogena, good quality. The complimentary breakfast is a plus, good variety of fruits, cereal and hot items. I would recommend this hotel to any of my friends. read more

Stayed here last month on the 23rd with three other colleagues. Had no points with Hamption Inn (been a life-long Marriott guy...), but stayed with the team anyway. Very nice place. After nearly 15 years of road-warrior status traveling every week as a business systems consultant (and seeing some seriously lacking hotels...), it was refreshing to see a new'ish hotel with all the righ amenities and features. More like 3.5 stars. My friend and I came here for two nights last month for a wedding that we were attending. The location is in a nice area. A little bit off the freeway but at least it's quiet. The problem that I had with the hotel was that it only had one set of elevators in the lobby to go up to the rooms. The lady at the front desk didn't tell me that so we drove around the building trying to figure out how to get in. Finally we had to go back in and ask. Of course all the good parking was taken so we had to park out by the pool and lug all of our stuff up. I saw people using a luggage cart later in our stay but that was never offered to us. The room itself is very nice. It has modern decor and very comfortable beds. The free breakfast that they offered is mediocre, at best. Just stick to the coffee, cereal and fruits. The hot breakfast items were not good at all. Overall, I would stay here again and now that I know how to maneuver around this hotel it wouldn't be so bothersome next time. read more

Stayed here while in town for a travel ball tournament, everything was excellent! The room was fantastic, clean, very nice and spacious. I have been here for 4 nights already, no housekeeping. I complained they said They are not doing any housekeeping because COVID. So if you want to stay in a clean room you have to check in and check out everyday . I would stay here much longer but why? Wonder why AirBnBs are doing so well. Me and my husband moved to San Diego in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. His job promotion was anticipated late last year so we had no choice but to move when the job came up. While searching for a home we stayed at the Hamptons for two weeks. For two weeks I had nothing but good things to say about the cleanliness of this facility, precautions taken to prevent spread of the virus and most importantly friendliness!
