I remember way back when when the village of Rancho Bernardo did not exist at all, and was simply open and barren land off the 15 Freeway. You now exit Rancho Bernardo Road and proceed eastward to about the second or third light. At that intersection, you make a left turn. Thereafter, you travel along a quiet and residential street of pretty houses all the way to the end of the street, which ends in a cul de sac at the gated entrance to the Rancho Bernardo Inn. I love the architecture of the Rancho Bernardo Inn. It is very 1970's interpretation of Spanish baronial hacienda, and it works and seems fresh and modern, depite being over 50 years old. The lobby extends into a long and covered loggia that takes one into th garden of the hotel. The place to eat at the hotel is Avant.

I did a day pass through Resort Pass. It was a good experience. I was at the adult pool. Thank goodness there is an adult pool. I ordered the BLTA which was delicious. The fries were salted perfectly. The bread was buttery, the ranch was creamy. I'd order this again. I also got a lemonade which was standard. For the pool, you to have to call a number to get service. It takes about 20-30 mins for the delivery. So expect a drink to take a while to come to you. It's a nice option though could be nicer if a server walked by occasionally to check in. There's a few umbrellas but not that many. Good selection of menu items. Parking was ok. They have a lot. It was full so I ended up parking in the neighborhood which was a 5 min walk. I didn't necessarily mind this since I'm used to a parking in central San Diego which is always terrible lol.

Yes, I know... I'm a little late with this, but it gives everyone a head start for next year. If you've been, you know but if you haven't been, then you need to see this for yourself. The RBI is keeping Christmas spirit alive and well. It's always decked with Holiday Cheer, something fun for the adults and more for the Littles. Specialty bar and food items available at the restaurants. Always a treat. One of the most festive spots in Southern California during the holidays. Simply amazing and oh by the way, it's the RBI. So the service is always spectacular. You must see it for yourself. Thank you RBI for staying consistent.

Update: This morning, my husband called to try to make a tennis reservation, and fortunately they were able to fit him in at noon, even though it is Martin Luther King Jr. weekend. The receptionist did note that they typically prefer more than 24 hours' notice, which is important to keep in mind, especially if you're only staying one or two nights or checking in later in the day. Regarding the spa, after expressing how much we wanted a day pass, we were told the spa would call us in the morning as soon as they opened if any passes became available. Unfortunately, we never received that call, so we followed up ourselves. At that point, we were told they couldn't take any payments because their system was down. I suggested charging it to the room, and after some back-and-forth, they said they could--but only at the holiday rate of $140 per person when the hotel receptionist had previously told us the rate would be $69 per person and never mentioned holiday pricing. After the hotel intervened and acknowledged the pricing discrepancy, they honored the $69 rate. In the end, we were able to access both the tennis courts and the spa, but only after a significant amount of back-and-forth and clarification. It was far from straightforward and did not match how seamlessly these amenities are marketed. If you are booking this property specifically for the spa or tennis, be prepared to reserve everything well in advance and know that these amenities are not directly managed by the hotel, which can lead to delays and confusion. Access is not guaranteed simply by staying here. I do want to specifically call out Chloe, who was instrumental in helping us secure both the tennis and spa reservations. Without her help, we likely would not have been accommodated at all. While we ultimately enjoyed the amenities, the process was frustrating and stressful, especially during a holiday weekend. Clearer communication and better coordination would go a long way in setting accurate expectations for guests. Despite the miscommunication and logistical confusion, the grounds and spa were beautiful and the food was delicious, which made for a relaxing getaway once we were accommodated.

Life size gingerbread village (December 2025)

Rancho Bernardo Inn is always a gem hidden within a residential neighborhood of Rancho Bernardo. I have stayed there several times before (rooms are clean, and beds are comfortable) and have eaten at Verandah Grill and Avant countless times over the years (both very good). It also has a nice spa which I have also visited many times (it is tucked away which requires a bit of walking down and up a slope; the spa is a bit dated but clean). Over the Christmas holidays, the hotel has an amazing life-size gingerbread house or village. That is a must see! The staff is always professional and accommodating, and the service is good. Parking can be challenging at times, which may require you to park on residential street or overflow parking at nearby clubhouse at times. There is valet available as well.

The cafe / souvenir shop was soooo nice and quiet in the afternoon.

Pricey but if you are going to make use of the facilities, appreciate the grounds and the lay out of this hotel then it is worth your money. We had a very spacious double queen bed looking out onto the golf course. It was quiet enough for us to sleep with the window open and benefit from the fresh air brought in by the light rain. Our room was super clean with a large bathroom. Front desk was responsive and the different type of food services around the resort hotel make it easy to navigate for families. There is a family pool and a secluded adult pool. There were two weddings and two conventions during our three days stay and it member felt overcrowded or that we were spoiling someone else's event. All staff were super busy yet pleasant and helpful.

Very nice and clean resort. My fiancé and I drove in from Irvine to stay here for a few nights. I used AMEX so that upgraded our room to a suite facing the golf course. The resort is very well kept and clean, the grounds are older but you can tell they do a good job with upkeep. My fiancé went to the spa and got a facial, she said it was a great experience. The breakfast was really good, everything is fresh from their Chefs Garden. The only complaint I have would be the self parking which they charge 40 dollars a night for and on the weekends it took 25 minutes to find a spot after 8pm because of the restaurant, golf and weddings. I called the front desk to inquire and the manager Benjamin was quick to comp the parking fee for the whole stay. Amazing customer service. Staff was nice and friendly. Would come back

We booked a weekend away here and it was the most relaxing and amazing weekend ever. Everyone is amazing and the rooms are spectacular. The bar downstairs was fun with excellent service and staff and really felt like a getaway. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and the adults only pool and spa were nothing short of bliss. The spa was so good, our old arses walked out feeling young again! :::laughs::: Worth every penny- we will definitely be back!

We checked into the Rancho Bernardo Inn in California on January 30 for a three-night stay. The hotel was quite full with several events taking place, yet everything felt well managed and unhurried. From the moment we arrived, the valet staff took excellent care of us, and the front desk check-in process was seamless and welcoming. A bellman escorted us to our room with our luggage, gave us a brief introduction to the space, and made sure we were comfortable before leaving -- a thoughtful touch that set the tone for our stay. That evening, we used our $100 dining credit for dinner, which was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was stunning, with a guitarist softly strumming near the fireplace, creating a warm and elegant ambiance. It's truly one of the most beautiful places to dine, and it's also where breakfast is served in the morning -- something we really enjoyed. Overall, the service, setting, and experience exceeded our expectations. I would absolutely stay at Rancho Bernardo Inn again.

This is not just a resort, this is a whole village. There is a full sized golf course, a huge ballroom, multiple pools, a spa, and really attentive staff.

The Rancho Bernardo Inn is a wonderful and unique and beautiful establishment that will give you many opportunities to create special memories. The quiet atmosphere and serene area allows one's perspective to be directed to make discoveries of peace and harmony in a place where the rest of the world continues in its own chaos. The many waterfalls and well maintained and manicured gardens helps you to forget the drudgery of life that you're trying to escape from. The employees are generous with their hospitality and service is always amazing and delightful. There are many activities that are offered from Spa Services to Live Entertainment to Special Themed Soirées that the RB Inn is known for. Always check online for scheduled activities. For that special occasion or just to get away from the world, you will always make great memories when you choose the Rancho Bernardo Inn!!!

    Old world charm

Our daughter's wedding was in late February 2026. With a 5 month engagement, planning had to move quickly. JENNY RHYMES (Catering Sales & Services Manager) was wonderful to work with. She is friendly, knowledgeable, sweet, on time, and responds to emails and phone calls within 24 hours. Without Jenny the rehearsal and wedding would not have been so seamless. Everything about the wedding far exceeded our expectations. Ease of parking, signage, food, ambiance, guest rooms, and the overall feel was exactly what my daughter and her husband had dreamed of. RBI provides a unique setting, beautiful greenery and old world charm. The ceremony was on the North Lawn surrounded by rose bushes. The reception was like a fairytale on the Santiago Courtyard and the dancing was in the Santiago Ballroom. Big thank-you to the entire staff that helped in making our weekend perfect.

They provide tons of outdoor seating options and grills for tenants, which makes cooking a breeze. In order to enter from the beach/boardwalk, you must have a room key to enter the premises- another awesome perk. This keeps all the riff-raft out of the area. &At night, they also require a room key to enter through the front of the building- which is a newer feature, and much appreciated. You can leave your beach toys & chairs outside your room without worrying about someone coming to steal it. We have locked our bikes up downstairs in the courtyard area & nobody messes with them. This is such a great place to stay & an amazing tradition that our family has. We look forward to our visit every May!

We hosted an 80th birthday celebration for more than 125 guests, and the banquet experience deserves more than five stars. The Aviary Ballroom was beautifully prepared, and the views of the bay created a stunning backdrop for the event. Everything was organized, elegant, and ran seamlessly from start to finish. Thanks to Valerie. A special thank you to Valerie, the Catering Manager, who guided us through every detail of the planning process. She helped us select the menu, coordinated every aspect of the event, and made the entire experience stress-free. Our guests consistently complimented the food and the overall setup. The event couldn't have gone more smoothly. Our service captain, Sandro, was equally outstanding. He was attentive throughout the celebration, quickly handled every request, and ensured everything stayed on track. We've attended many events over the years, and this was one of the smoothest and best-managed we've experienced. Our hotel stay was also excellent (but not perfect). The Catamaran offers so many activities that you could easily spend several days without ever leaving the property. Be sure to check the resort's website before your visit so you don't miss everything available, including the luau, yoga classes, bike rentals, kayaks, boat rentals (though no jet skis), and evening bonfires. If I had one suggestion for improvement, it would simply be to continue enhancing the guest experience in the few small areas that keep this resort from being absolutely perfect. Even so, we had a wonderful stay and an unforgettable celebration. We would gladly return and highly recommend the Catamaran for both a relaxing vacation and a special event. During our stay our party had 8 hotel rooms. We loved lounging by the pool, on the grassy area and the sand. We rented a hobi a few times and kayaks. Although on 2 occasions at Oceana restaurant we waited for our food longer than usual and the Java shop could move a little quicker. The food was great but some dishes could be better. But staff were great from the hostess's to the servers. My big let down they were out of the BAYSIDE BUNDT CAKE again. Almost every single employee we encounter and we met a lot in 4 days were sincerly nice and professional. Shout out to Zach and Thomas our bell hop guys. Our room was well kept, but I wish they had house slippers since our room was by the water I felt the rug was always moist. The bottles in the shower didn't work properly and caulking around the toilet can be made better. Weird comment but it wasn't perfect. The mattresses weren't the great either. One person moves the other felt it like a water bed. I called for an extra blanket but didn't realize there were spares in drawers. Room to me I'd rate a 4. SUPER DOG FRIENDLY! TOPS

The grounds are really well taken care of. The proximity to the beach is so great, and there is plenty of space to set up. And there's an action sports right there as well. Really good restaurants on property. Rooms were very spacious. Somewhat dated, but were maintained Ok. More than enough space for all the beach stuff you'll bring. This will likely be our new summer vacation spot.

The entire facility was beautiful, spotless, and very well maintained. Our room was clean, comfortable, and exceeded our expectations. We had dinner at A.R. Valentien, where our waiter, Ryan, and the entire staff were attentive, welcoming, and provided outstanding service. The food was absolutely delicious, light, fresh, and beautifully prepared. We also enjoyed breakfast at The Grill. My 9-year-old son absolutely loved the pancakes, while my husband and I both ordered omelets that were incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked. Every meal we had was excellent. One of our favorite parts of the stay was relaxing by the pool and enjoying the gorgeous views. The hotel also made the Fourth of July extra special for families by hosting a fun celebration with crafts, cookies and lemonade, cookie decorating, and kites for the kids to fly. Our son had the best time, and we loved the warm, family-friendly atmosphere. The valet staff were also wonderful: friendly, helpful, and always greeted us with a smile. This was truly a memorable stay, and we can't wait to return next year. If you're looking for a beautiful hotel with exceptional service, delicious dining, and a welcoming family atmosphere, we highly recommend staying here!

The manager Isabel went above and beyond to make me feel special and I truly did. All the staff were so kind from the moment we walked in and made us feel right at home. Shortly after getting to our room, Isabel sent a charcuterie board, chips with salsa and guac, and a sparkling non alcoholic cider to the room with a very sweet note. It was incredibly thoughtful and so appreciated. After that we all had a very relaxing time at the spa, and I had a great prenatal massage. As we were leaving the spa they gave me a little goodie bag as a congratulations which made my heart melt. The rooms were so cozy and clean and the beds were very comfy. We all woke up refreshed the next day and some of us even made it to yoga! I am so grateful to have had my babymoon here and grateful to Isabel for truly making it an experience I'll never forget. We loved it so much my friend bought my baby a little Lodge at Torrey Pines onesie from the gift shop! I have since had my baby and every time she wears it, it reminds me of our great weekend at the lodge. I now recommend staying here to all of our friends. Thanks for making a pregnant girl feel so special

The staff here were incredibly friendly and attentive. They not only were knowledgeable about the menu, everyone worked together as a team to ensure seamless service start to finish. It was like as soon as I put the order in, within 5-10 minutes the order was already out! Grabbed the burger and fries which were super tasty. Also snagged the chicken tenders and fries which were great. Another dish ordered were the hamburgers from the kids menu, which also came back as a winner for us. Regarding the drinks, I am happy to report the Froze Rose was a massive hit! None of the tastes were overwhelming, perfectly mixed adult frozen beverage . For being pool side food, I was so impressed by how good the food was. The pool itself is very family friendly. I didn't see any life guards, and I'm not sure if that is standard at every hotel resort pool. There is a splash pad for kids with seating surrounding it, which can be fantastic for the younger kids (younger than 5 or 6) to enjoy some time in the pool as well. My children had a wonderful time & there were so many friendly kids including us in their play time. One of the many reasons I absolutely love San Diego-we are just one of a kind when it comes to the vibes. Always a great idea to get a resort pass, which is what we did here. Parking is included that way, but there is free parking just outside the parking lot all along the road in the event you want to take that route. The grounds for the hotel are absolutely gorgeous and well put together. So excited for future trips back to Mission Bay Resort!

Long but I wanna give the good and bad…read more When we arrived there was $400 in extra fees waiting for us. This was very frustrating, and really started our stay off on an irritating note. Then our room wasn't ready in the tower at 4, so they "upgraded" us to a villa. The villa was dark and had tile floors through out the whole room, which just felt icky, and not homey at all. My husband ended up telling the front desk we were extremely uncomfortable with the room, and we would be happy to just cancel our reservation. They made it right and truly upgraded us to a very pretty room in the tower with carpet throughout, only vinyl in the entry. We even noticed the toilets were higher quality in this room. Odd thing to notice but just true. The room itself was much lighter and brighter. When my husband was moving our stuff to the new room the maid got upset with him because apparently the front management had already chastised her about the room not being clean but we never said it wasn't clean, just not comfortable for us. ( On the contrary it actually smelled strong of cleaning products.) So he just apologized and moved our stuff. After moving tho, the staff was wonderful very friendly very accommodating. The room felt clean and comfortable and we rented bikes from the little sports shop and went to the amazing large kids parks up the road. Very fun, and pretty ride. Couple things we loved was: watching the drone show, the food at the restaurant, very plush towels and centrally located for all our plans which included Encinitas and Coronado trips. One final note, we swam 4 times during our trip and by the end of it my daughter's eyes were so irritated. Her eyes were watering and red. After sleeping on the car ride they were better. We have a pool at home so I knew this wasn't normal for her. Google says that the chemicals were too low in the pool and not properly managed... she's fine now but note to self always wear googles.... We won't be staying here again, but we did ultimately enjoy our time here. I hope this is helpful to the hotel as well as future residents.

From the moment we arrived, Sherlyn at the front desk set the tone for our entire stay. She went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and genuinely celebrated our arrival. At Barefoot Bar and Grill, Taylor took excellent care of us during our meals. She made sure we were always comfortable and well taken care of, and you would never guess she's only been working there for a month. Her professionalism, kindness, and natural hospitality really stood out. Nicole, the bartender at the pool, also added to the experience with great service and a friendly, relaxed vibe that made poolside time even better. Overall, the staff here elevated our entire stay. We waited over 15 minutes at the Barefoot Bar before anyone acknowledged our table or took a drink order. After being seated, we ended up waiting nearly 30 minutes without service and were ready to leave. Unfortunately, the experience didn't improve. When we checked out, it took another 30 minutes for the front desk to retrieve our stored luggage. In total, we spent nearly an hour waiting on things that should have taken just a few minutes. This isn't a staffing issue that guests should have to absorb, it's a management issue. Paradise Point is a beautiful destination, but leadership needs to refocus on guest service, training, and operational execution. Until that happens, the experience doesn't match the setting.

Pros: - the facility itself is impressive and the grounds were well kept - the live musician was talented and even engaged with some kids dancing up front - some of the small bites were quite good including 1 of the 4 savories and most of the sweet eats Cons: - the service was atrocious. The timing and attentiveness of service was some of the worst I've had. And this is unreal because that is essentially what you are paying for on a Mother's Day tea party - service and attentiveness. I couldn't believe for an establishment such as this that the management would accept the awful service. - Timing: We were seated ~30min past our seating time. We were not spoken to for the first ~15min after seating. They didn't adjust the sun umbrella until ~20 min after seating. The food took a forever back and forth due to issues (see below). Then to get our required valeted car - the line was over a 45 min wait (the line occupied the entire front of the hotel)! - Attentiveness: We were seated in the direct sun despite requesting to not be. We informed them of a walnut allergy for one of my kids via the OpenTable reservation. Then we had to inform the host as we were seated because they didn't know. The host wrote it on the back of a ticket. The waiter picked up the ticket. Then the person came to get our tea and he asked if we had any allergies. We mentioned the walnuts which he had no idea. Then, they brought us out food with walnuts!! haha. Unreal. We informed the delivering waiter (a different one than the rest). They took the kids tray away and then finally delivered a tray for our kids that had about half the original quantity. They didn't even serve the whole course to the non-allergic child. It was unbelievably inconsiderate. You can imagine how happy our Mom was on her special day as we all sat wondering what would happen to the kids food. - Tea: It was nothing special with one completely bitter. Never again. Advise to avoid on Mother's Day and go anywhere else.
