We planned a family trip to the zoo and chose this hotel for its location. I called ahead to confirm details since we needed two rooms close together. What I didn't realize was that the number I called connected me to a third-party booking service--not the hotel directly. When we arrived, our reservation wasn't quite right, and I was even charged for an extra room. Thankfully, Mackenzie at the front desk was absolutely incredible. She quickly figured out what happened, personally contacted the third-party service, and got the refund processed right away. She and Brian, another front desk clerk, not only fixed everything efficiently--they also gave us great tips for our trip to the zoo, which made the experience even better. What could've started as a stressful situation turned into a smooth and memorable stay thanks to Mackenzie and Brian. Yikes. We've not had good luck with hotels this year at all. For the 2nd time in my life and happens to be the 2nd time in 2025 I had to request a room change. Upon walking into our room it smelled heavily of cigarettes smoke and a cover up like Fe breeze. My entire family was like 'we are not staying in this room'. To note-it was listed as a non-smoking room. Upon check in, the gentleman was very kind and check in was fast. I go back to the counter and the woman was not nice. I explained we would like a non smoking room and is there by chance another room available. She gave me dirty looks, didn't say a single word to me but did change our room. Literally no words. Just handed me the new key card with the room number on it. Ok. Fine. The hotel itself is very dated. We stayed here on the recommendation of friends. It was packed the entire time. I didn't know it was close to the N Carolina Zoo. So many little kids. Which are adorable. Many young kids excited for their plans for the weekend. Completely fine. Just be prepared you'll be hearing kids late into the night and early in the morning. Along with parents talking loudly in the halls thinking everyone wants to know they are chasing their toddlers through the halls at 5am or 12am. Back to the hotel. Just gives an overall feeling of ick. Large bug carcasses lying in the hallway floors. Some sort of beetle but not a cockroach. Took some pics of the tired furniture/decor, etc. Definitely need some capital improvements to this place. read more

The good is that this place is close to everywhere I needed to be. It has restaurants close by and if you forget anything there is a Walmart across the street. The bad... it's very dark, the room needed a huge update. Bathrooms were old and the furniture was not in good shape. Mattress wasn't comfortable and the carpets were old and gross. My non smoking room smelled of cigarettes and the fabreeze smell they used to try covering it was definitely not working. I think next time I will forget about my points and stay at the Holiday Inn Express. read more

The hotel itself is very nice. Where my problem was with the fact that the indoor pool was not in service. I contacted the Front Desk and they had no idea why the pool was closed. There was no sign on the entrance door to the indoor pool with any explanation or the fact that the pool was closed. I then asked for the Front Desk Manager to have the General Manager to get in touch with me for an explanation. About 20 minutes later I called the Front Desk and then she told me that the pool deck was repainted and they were waiting for it to dry. I have stayed here many times, and I've never had a bad experience. I typically have the exact same room on the third floor. If you want a quiet room, most likely any hotel, the top floor is going to be your pick! I have more good to say about this hotel, and the staff then bad. The good is is conveniently located close to pretty much everything. The staff are awesome They have complementary breakfast They have a nice pool ! The only negative thing that I have to say is my most recent stay this week they put me in room 234. I would not recommend this room to anyone until it's updated fully. It smelled awful. It was hot. There were stains on the floor. The bed, well I might as well have been sleeping on the floor. When I informed the receptionist know my issues unfortunately, she cannot switch rooms because they were fully booked. However, she did try to Febreze my floor and she even brought me some dryer sheets just in case I want to place them anywhere. The only good thing about that room, and it had an amazing jetted tub, which I did utilize ! The very next morning I was able to switch my room for the remaining of my stay. There was an unexpected but fully refundable $10 charge upon check in that wasn't disclosed ahead of time. That was irritating after prepaying in full and 12 hours on the road. Also pool is closed. Pool was why we chose this hotel so that was disappointing. The response from the hotel was that it's posted on their website so even though I was on the road and booked through Expedia, that was my bad I guess. The staff is lovely and very friendly. The elevator we used smells like cigarettes. The tub had hairs in it so that was gross. Beds were comfortable. Pillows were just ok. It's an ok place. Hampton Inns are usually better than this. This hotel gets people in the door by its proximity to the zoo, and that alone. Certainly not from its cleanliness, updatedness, friendliness, or by taking the COVID pandemic seriously. This place is the worst Hilton property I've EVER stayed at and I'm a diamond rewards member. Neither the check-in lady or the manager were wearing masks despite signs everywhere asking its customers to do so. And NONE of the cleaning staff were wearing masks. Take a look at my photographs to see the stains, damage, and uncleanliness in my one room alone. When I checked in there was no coffee cup. There was a single roll of toilet paper with 2/3rds already gone. Honestly, I was relieved to not find bed bugs. At one point I was trying to make my way down the hallway and two cleaning ladies were chatting with their carts blocking the entire hall. I waited for about 20 seconds standing there before asking to be allowed to go past. They rolled their eyes and then laughed at me once I was passed. The whole culture from the manager to the cleaners is one of disrespect and lack of concern for their job. Even if you are a Hilton rewards member, if you are coming to the area to visit the NC Zoo, do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. read more

We will not be staying here again. We drove from Asheville ready to get out of town for a bit after the devastation after the hurricane. We were meeting our kids and grandbabies at the zoo. We arrived at 3:45pm (45 min past check in time) and our room wasn't ready yet. I had checked in online 24 hours prior and picked my exact room. I was told my room wasn't ready so I asked what will they be doing for the situation. The lady said we can wait. Wow! I had checked in 24 hours prior. I asked for the manager and was presented with two managers approaching the front desk. I was joking saying it took two people to come handle this. It was NOT taken as a joke and the general manager immediately got loud and aggressive. He told me if I didn't like it, I could leave and go somewhere else. He said if my demeanor didn't change they would cancel my room. He ended up giving me 5,000 rewards points but that is a slap in the face. This hotel also needs a lot of TLC. Paint peeling, mold in the bathroom and weird smells throughout the hotel. read more

We chose this hotel because it was close to Seagrove, the location of a Spring Pottery Festival. There are very few options in this area, and the reviews of this establishment were mostly favorable. I don't know how it compares with the nearby Holiday Inn Express or Fairfield by Marriott, but it was a horrible experience. In fact, it was probably one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed. The room was "tired" and clearly had been only cursorily cleaned as we discovered some previous occupant had left the packaging for a child's toy underneath the bed. Most importantly, the air-conditioning made me sick. I suffer from a chronic lung condition. I don't know if the air-conditioning unit was spreading dust particles, mold, or other material, but spending any time in the room with the air-conditioning on caused me to cough incessantly. Turning the unit off was the only way I was able to get any relief and to sleep. As a result, we checked out a day early. That said, the staff were helpful and professional. They were the only bright spot in a dismal place. read more

Overall the hotel has been going downhill and getting dirtier. I've stayed here several times for work due to limited options, but I can no longer stay here as the last time resulted in literally over 40 bed bug bites. Absolutely disguisting. The day I discovered the itchy bites, I pulled the mattress back only to find a puke stain, lots of food crumbs, and a bottle cap as well. The hotel staff moved me to a different room for the final night and were kind in letting me do laundry, however, the manager supposedly wasn't going to charge me for the entire stay, yet I certainly got the bill. When I called a week later, the staff told me they were not doing any fumigation because they did not find any bed bugs themselves. Stay at your own risk.. This was one of my worst hotel experiences. We love Hampton but this particular one in Asheboro, NC was awful. Paid in advance, drove 13 hrs with 2 children, called earlier in the day to let them know we would be a late check in and was told that was no problem, in a city I had never been to before. Arrived 15 minutes before midnight. Receptionist said they didn't have our room ready but was giving us a room identical. Went to that room and the door was open, trash in trash cans, dirty linens on the couch, counter tops with trash. Went back to the receptionist, told us that was house cleanings fault. She then told us they had no available rooms. We sat there for awhile just trying to figure out where we going to go. Other customers who had paid were coming in and she was turning them away it's reimbursements. All rooms in area were booked up. The receptionist literally left my 2 daughters and I out on the street in the middle of the night in a town we have never been to before with a receipt saying I would be reimbursed in 5 business days!!! She told me I needed to work on my customer service...I'm the customer. On check in, I offered to show her my ID and card and she declined. When she gave me my reimbursement receipt, my address was from another country. No explanation. No help. Just that nothing was her fault. Tried to talk to manager but no one ever called back after many attempts of calling. Complaints made to Hampton and Hilton and to the hotel itself with no call backs. Will never stay at this hotel. Very disappointed in the Hampton brand all together bc of this and no call back. All around dirty hotel with horrible service. The only reason there is 1 star is because I did not have the option to give 0 stars!!! read more

DEFINITELY HAS FALLEN OFF!! I checked in on Friday (10/29) We booked a double room, when being checked in, the young man said "well even though you booked a double room, you're not guaranteed what you book". - huh? So what's the point of a reservation? Another associate standing next to him, say we changed your room- we got you in a double. We get to our room, it was disgusting!! Dirty sheets, dirty carpet, bathroom not cleaned(see pictures) We go back to the desk, explain how dirty the room is, and show them pictures- his response "well we're all booked for tonight, so I can't give you another room, but you can wait until we can have someone to clean it. Suddenly a lady, who could have been a manager comes up and says, we can find you another room. The desk clerk looks obviously irked by the interruption, but gives us new room keys. Our new room did have clean sheets, but that's about it. The floor was sticky, and the carpet seemed like it hadn't been vacuumed in a while. The next morning we called to have the room cleaned while we were out, THE SAME RUDE desk clerk says "that service has to be requested 24hr in advance"- when asked why we're we given that info at check-in he simplysaid, "I don't know". There were only 2 towel sets in the room, we called for extra, the SAME RUDE desk clerk said "We can't bring them to you, but will be happy to give you some, if you come down to the front desk" and BTW OUR ROOM.WAS NEVER CLEANED THE WHOLE STAY!!! This was the absolute worst stay I have ever had at this hotel. Maybe its. Short staffing due to Covid, maybe folks are over worked and under paid. If you're having a crappy day, walk away and take a breath, but don't be rude and nasty to people who are trying to use your services, which in turn keeps you employed. An explanation of why service is slow, why certain amenities are no longer available or why an empty hotel is "booked" will go a long way. We get it, but what we don't get is rude behavior while you chose to work in the service industry. This was definitely my LAST stay at this hotel. read more

We checked in for a 2 night stay, we came back our second day, and our room was not cleaned, no fresh towels or amenities. We went to the front desk only to be informed that we did not request it at check in and housekeeping was closed, and they could not get us fresh towels or any amenities. We are rewards members, we were not asked if we wanted the room cleaned at check in and nowhere was it posted about the cleaning request. This is a tired property that is understaffed, but more importantly, it appears the owners are intent on wringing out as much profit as possible. Hilton corporate should definitely do an on site review. There is definitely deferred maintenance, very cheap and very limited breakfast items( pop tarts! No milk or cold cereal, no baked goods available, not even a piece of toast, no fruit juices, coffee has been watered down), any supplies like paper cups, soap, toilet paper, and very cheap shampoo, not the corporate branded Neutrogena etc severely rationed. We have stayed at this location several times over the years while going to the NC Zoo. Nice hotel located very close to the NC Zoo. Well maintained, clean, & easy access. Plenty of restaurants located within walking distance or a short drive. Ample parking. Nice indoor pool with towels furnished & hot tub in the area as well. Fitness room is typical fare: free weights, treadmills, etc. Nightly, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies are an added bonus. Rooms are spacious & well thought out in design. Reasonably priced for area. Free breakfast selection daily makes the stay even more enjoyable as well as being able to make you own waffles daily! Huge hit with kids & adults alike! HIlton rewards members are eligible for two free bottles of water upon check in as well. Staff is friendly, helpful & knowledgeable of local area such as restaurants, things to do, etc. housekeeping does a good job of cleaning quickly & proficiently. After booking almost 2 months ago and not getting to this hotel until around 4:45 pm, we did not get into our rooms until 7:30 pm because there were no clean rooms available. There were also no room keys so we had to be let in by front desk personnel who were no very friendly!! Once in the rooms, they were not very clean and had limited towels and wash cloths that were very rough feeling. The window in my sons room was so dirty there was the name of a former guest written in the dust and dirt. Hadn't even attempted to be cleaned. There is NO continental breakfast and cereal was the best choice. There was no regular coffee or creamer available for the rooms. The pool had no clean towels on the second night (if you want to call them towels- they are more like oversized hand towels). We always stay at Hilton properties and this is the worst one yet!! We will NEVER stay here again!! I do not write negative comments lightly and I know with COVID things have been tough but management at this hotel stinks!!! Please do your homework before staying here and do not take the hotels word for anything - the negative customer reviews are all on spot for this hotel - believe them!! read more

No idea why this place has such low reviews. Unless maybe the standard rooms have issues. We stayed in the king suite one evening on our way to the beach. We always stay at Hilton properties and usually at Hampton Inns specifically. This is by far the nicest Hampton we've stayed in. The suite was beautiful. The door opens to a kitchenette and living room area with a typical desk and nicely large TV. There is a hallway off the living area with the bedroom off to the right and the bathroom separate off to the left. Nicely appointed, large rooms. Clean. The mattress. I am not exaggerating when I say it is more comfortable than the mattress on my own bed. This may be our new "always stop here on our way to the beach". read more

I am extremely disappointed in this stay. We arrived late, after midnight, and around 10 pm we got a call saying the room I had already checked in for was no longer available so we were being upgraded. Unfortunately there were no double queen rooms available (which is what my reservation was for) so I got a king bed and a pullout couch. That's fine. Check in and there are no blankets or pillows for the pullout bed. There was a pile of garbage under the sink which included beer bottles and wine boxes. I went to the desk and got blankets but there were no pillows remaining in the hotel. I told the attendant about the trash and that it was outside my door. She assured me she would be up to get it. Wake up the next morning for the breakfast I had read about in previous reviews and found cereal, cereal bars, pop tarts, and muffins. There was no hot breakfast and to compound my frustration, on the second day there was also no milk for the cereal. Further, the overflowing trash can was still outside my door. I talked to the daytime attendants who told me I would get a call in my room to discuss my complaint as they were trying to check people in. I received no call. Just as an additional note, the wallpaper was peeling in the bathroom and the carpet was filthy. I heard several other customers complain to the staff on Sunday morning in their way out. I know everyone is doing their best during COVID but this was unacceptable. read more

When I arrived I found it was outdated, very dirty in the common areas and I refused to stay in the room. I told the front desk I wouldn't be staying at the hotel given it's condition. The clerk was unfriendly, not very professional. She informed me I would be charged a cancellation fee of 1 night. I told her I would call the Hilton Honors desk and complain. She went to talk to the manager and returned saying they would cancel with no penalty. Little did I know it was a bold face lie and I didn't get anything in writing. Consequently, my company was charged. I called the hotel and asked to speak to accounting. Surprise, they never answered and never called back. Ever feel you're dealing with shady people? The customer srvc is great here but the building is still a bit dumpy--even after their renovations. Their dining area is newly remodled & sharp. The free bfast is very very good here. Pancakes, waffles, soymilk, fruit cups, cereals, yogurts, toast, bagels, english muffins, pasteries, bananas, etc. Laundry is $1.50/load & they got 3 machines & a folding room. No DVD players in any rooms. The bathrooms were remodled too--sharp. The hallways, the pool/exercise room, room doors, room phones, lamps, & carpeting are old & dumpy. Better than Quality or Comfort Inn but not as good as Fairfield Inn & Suites. read more

Newly remodeled. Very very clean. Very pleasant staff. Large indoor pool and hot tub that was clean and kid friendly. A bigger than expected fridge in the room with a microwave was a nice treat since not all Hampton's have a fridge. The hotel is 8 minutes from the zoo but a few minutes from Walmart and plenty of restaurants! This is the 2nd time we have stayed here in the last 4 years and if we head back to the zoo again, we will stay again. $99 to stay in April is great. I am a fan if Hilton Hotels plus I am not 20 years old anymore and won't stay at a Days Inn anymore. I recommend this place. read more
