Hampton Inn Downtown Freeport has a nice welcoming lobby. In the morning they offer complimentary buffet breakfast. Rooms are nice and cozy. My only recommendation would for them to improve shower heads . It shows signs of outdated. Towels I think needs to be replaced. They look too washed out (bleached out), too much. The Desk Clerk was very helpful and friendly on our arrival. She made sure to thank us both for our stay as well as for being Hilton Honors members. The room was clean and comfortable. There are only ten rooms per floor so we thought it would be a quiet place. That evening, however, a large group of adults and children took over multiple rooms across the hall from us. From around 6:30 until around 11 there was constant conversations and children screaming while running from room to room and slamming doors. Thankfully it stopped around 11 pm and we were able to get to sleep. The peace was short lived, as they wound up again just after one am. The next morning, as we were leaving for the day, we stopped at the desk and asked for our room to be refreshed. The clerk said she would have it done. On our return to our room we found it in the same condition as when we left. I went down to the desk and asked when the housekeeper would be available and was told that they were gone for the day. I told her that we had requested that it be refreshed. She told me that if it hadn't been done it was probably because I had left the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. (It really bothers me when a staff member automatically blames me without any information.). She said that she would talk to the housekeeper and make sure it was done tomorrow. I told her that we were checking out in the morning and she merely shrugged. I asked for towels and went back upstairs. All the normal things were fantastic. Clean, spacious room, great breakfast spread, friendly staff, and good location. We walked to the movies and dinner. The gym has weights and cardio equipment. The pool is small, but an indoor pool in Illinois is great for traveling with kids! On this occasion we were in town for a funeral. The day of the funeral our vehicle broke down, the rental car places aren't open but for a few hours Saturday morning. The front desk tried to help us get a ride share, but no one was picking it up. So instead, one of their husbands came and gave us a ride (30 minutes away) so we didn't miss the funeral. They helped us get a tow truck and arrange pickup and helped us find the closest mechanic. I can't thank these ladies enough for all their help! They went far above and beyond! read more

Not quite the Hilton experience. If you're looking for a clean hotel in this area, it's a good choice. If you're looking for the typical Hilton experience it is not. I checked in and was greeted by friendly staff. I did ask a more general Hilton question which seemed to overwhelmed to general manager (according to their name badge). They did give me a help line number which I appreciated. The room was spacious, bed was clean. I wish it had a microwave as most Hampton Inns do but there is one in the lobby to have access to. The toilets hardly flush, so plan carefully if you may be rooming with others. If you happen to have a noisy group stay here the same time as you, good luck. You hear just about everything, the doors slam and for whatever reason people don't seem to think "I shouldn't slam a door at 11:30pm" on a weekday. My biggest warning, if you get a room and the AC doesn't seem to be working properly -- force them to move your room. I didn't realize how bad mine was until the first evening there. They told me someone was checking all the AC units the next day (which I also want comfortable with someone being in my room, but whatever). She offered to give me new batteries but couldn't find any, but the batters seem to be find on the thermostat so they wouldn't have helped anyway. So between slamming doors, drunk road construction crews up half the night and an AC that doesn't work so your room is in the mid-70's -- sleeping isn't quite the easiest thing to do here. Stayed here over the weekend. Lobby was clean. Staff was friendly. Rooms were nice. Bathrooms could you a facelift. Can't quite put my finger on it, but even though the bathroom was clean, it felt a little dirty. Elevators were strange. They didn't stop evenly on the floors, and were extremely slow. There's nothing really great about this place, but nothing really bad, either. It's a smaller-ish hotel in downtown Freeport that's a few years overdue for an upgrade. Everything just looked a little outdated and dingy. The rooms were okay, although the walls were pretty thin so you could hear people talking, watching tv, elevator dings, etc. The staff was friendly, but a little bit unhelpful/confused at check in since we reserved multiple rooms under one name but checked in at different points (they kept telling my brother he had my room, but I'd already checked in/put down my credit card for that room). They advertise a free breakfast, which looks nice but is a little disappointing. They've got the basics (I do give props for the oatmeal and add-ins, that's one of my favorites), but the layout of the breakfast area and when it's not clear where to go people just kind of mill about. The fruit they offered was pretty limited in selection, as was the pastries and other things they offer. I get that's it's free, but it looked like it should be so much more and just wasn't. There's not much to do around the hotel, either, and since the hotel restaurant doesn't open until 4pm you're kind of stuck for food. Nothing bad happened here, but it just didn't give off the best vibe overall (we did consider switching hotels, but since we were part of a room block for a wedding and had only one night to go we decided to tough it out. This Hampton Inn is located in a rundown area of town. The hotel rooms are clean enough and also of decent size, The staff were also very courteous as well. I actually read online other reviews prior to checking in, most of the reviews we're going on about the excellent breakfast. My words to you "Don't Believe The Hype". Breakfast offered at this location sucks. I was here for a few days and it certainly did not get any better. The coffee in particular is absolutely the worst I have ever had. It was like drinking water down Ice-Tea. The coffee was lukewarm at best and extremely weak. Originally I thought it had been left over from the night before but this was actually a fresh container that had just been made. Where is a Holiday Inn Express when you need one? Thankfully there was a Starbucks nearby so I can start my day correctly. There's also a nice little bakery right around the corner to get a pastry in case you want one. My husband and I stayed here the week of Thanksgiving. We loved the downtown location as we planned on meeting friends at Wagner House which is about 3 blocks away. The stay was nice. I will start with the only bad experience. We checked in after a 15 hr drive and needed a nap, so we later down right after arriving in the middle of the day. I would say an hr or two later our door opens, as the hotel worker was going to give someone a tour of the room. We called to ask what was going on and they said they made an error. To make it up they offered a $10 Amazon Gift card or $20 IHOP card. We took the IHOP card but that experience was a little bit unsettling. Back to the pluses. The room was large. Everything was clean and up to standards. They had a very nice and convenient breakfast. Waffle maker was on point. One piece of advice I would also give is venture down the street to 312 Beef and Sausage! Amazing! Overall our experience was nice and we would stay again. read more

I'll admit, I didn't have high expectations as I drove into the center of Freeport earlier this week. Small town, older building - and though I've noticed over the years that Hampton Inns have been making noticeable improvements, I was still concerned about how my experience would end up. Luckily, I found a clean room, friendly staff, a great continental breakfast (the coffee is surprisingly excellent), and a decent restaurant connected to the hotel that offered an adequate beer list (though the waitresses didn't seem to know it), and pretty good food. My only complaint was the motor-like air conditioning unit in the room - every time it started up, it sounded like someone starting a car. Kind of obnoxious at 3 a.m. Alas, this place isn't a bad choice for a few nights spent in northcentral Illinois. read more

As a freeport native, it pains me to say that my experience was horrible from start to finish. I called the Hampton on Monday to reserve a room for Saturday. The woman on the phone was extremely rude , I could barely get a word in due to her telling me the rules before I could even inquire about their rooms. It was my daughters 5th birthday this past weekend , We had recently moved to Chicago but all of our family lives in Freeport so why not come back ? I requested 2 a-joining queen rooms and she took my card information over the phone and confirmed the room would be adjoined . Fast forward to Saturday. I called the hotel to confirm my room and the receptionist confirmed that we were good to go! After my daughters birthday party we grab all the girls and get ready to go to the rooms I booked. Mind you I had 5 girls with me ages 9-4. I go in to speak to the lady and before I could even tell her my name to say I'm here to check in to the adjoining room. She stated my room was booked. I thought it was a joke because I BOOKED THE ROOM. So how could it be booked?? She said that she could get us rooms down the hall for each other and when I told her that wasn't going to work she looked at me and shrugged her shoulders and said " I don't know what your going to do but there's nothing I can do about it". I would have NEVER booked with you guys if I knew you could not guarantee I would get what I requested and was willing to pay for. This truly ruined my daughters birthday. We were then directed to go to another hotel (which we had an amazing time at and will definitely going back too). Definitely somewhere I will never attempt to stay at again. As a Diamond member I look forward to comfort and convenience at the same time, I will say do the hotel was recently gone under RENOVATION and it looks amazing, staff is fairly nice, Bottom line is the Hotel has no Gift Shop or Pantry market, No restaurant, Breakfast was very bland and I had 2 housekeeping issues in my room. I agree with the last reviewer. Best hotel in Freeport! The to go bag breakfasts were tasty and helpful as I didn't have time in am for the free continental. They dropped off new towels in a cute mini laundry basket because we had a do not disturb sign out. Most hotels ignore your needs if u put out the sign. I didn't get to use the pool but it looked very nice, I wish I had remembered my swimsuit. The restaurant food was tasty and a great beer selection. Walking distance to a movie theater and the Dairy Bar the best ice cream place in town. Great room rates would definitely stay again! read more

Excellent continental breakfast with waffle irons and several other hot options. Close to anything you'd care to see in Freeport. You won't find a better lodging deal in the area. They put me in a room that is a little larger than most Hampton Inns which was nice of them. The hotel overall is clean and they have a nice pool and workout room. This is an historic, eight story brick hotel in the middle of Freeport. The neighborhood isn't much, but this hotel is amazing. Especially for the price. Logistical Nightmare! TLDR: great rooms and staff. No communication for my block, and I was charged for several rooms other people used. Due to this place being so close to our wedding venue we were adamant on getting a block of rooms. I contacted their sales manager, but was told she left for the day, so I left a voicemail, this same thing happened for 5 months! No call backs, no email replies, nothing! Finally I setup a pseudo block through corporate, but they said that they couldn't give be a suite because they were all booked (I would've had it if I got it setup through the Sales Manager). They then put it under the wrong name. I called the front desk and they fixed it, and then spoke to the general manager about the whole situation. She game me a single free night, fine I thought, at least it's walking distance to the venue. After writing an awful review detailing my experience, the sales manager finally contacts me. She was then able to upgrade my room to a suite, and offer meet block pricing, but she couldn't do an actual block. At this point I was happy, I got precisely what I needed albeit with some headache. The stay itself was great! Squeeky Clean rooms, the best hotel provided breakfast I've ever had! The staff was friendly, and prompt with all of our requests. Check-in and out were a breeze! Then the nightmare started again a day after checkout. I was charged for 2 rooms that my wedding party remember swipping their cards for. I called and they said it was a glitch, and that they would contact my friends to get it corrected. One of the people were charged twice! Then they corrected that and charged me for 2 more rooms. It took another call to the front desk to possibly corrected, we'll see if I get charged again. read more

Our room was given away even though I had checked in electronically and selected our room the day before. What is the point of the e check in if they don't reserve the room you select. We stayed 2 nights and housekeeping did not service our room or replenish towels, wash clothes or coffee. I had to go to the front Desk for replacements. Our room was small and walls very thin. We could easily hear the room next door. Parking was in a less than desirable area. Vending machine took my $2 for a bottle of water but didn't dispense a bottle. Sometimes the best hotel experience you'll ever have is in a quaint little city in the middle of nowhere. I've always found that the Hampton Inn chain of Hilton properties consistently exceeds my expectations. Freeport was no exception. Great, friendly service, lots of little touches. I loved this hotel. Great service, great rooms. Air conditioner was a bit obnoxious but it didn't wake me up. It also was either too cold or too hot most of the night and the breakfast was very meh. But the people were great and the rooms were spacious.! Overall a great stay. read more

Hotel was clean. The staff was very friendly and assisted with nothing but smiles when we needed something. Check-in and out was a breeze. The bed was super comfortable, the bathroom was spotless. Great selection for complimentary breakfast. Requested a room on the highest floor and they had us on the top floor! Parking is in a lot next to the hotel. My only small complaint is that we were in a room that had an adjoining room and you could hear the neighbors pretty clearly. If it wasn't for that they'd get 5 stars. read more
