We have been coming to this campground for about 10 years. When we first started coming, there was a walking path in the back along with a kangaroo crossing sign, my kids thought it was hilarious. I mean, how could we not have been hooked from the beginning?! This campground is peaceful and super clean. It's amazing the change it brings about to my youngest. She suffers from severe social anxiety, she doesn't even like going to the park across from our home but here all of that melts away. She loves it here and most important, she feels safe here. I was a bit nervous making the reservation... I had never heard of Lena, Illinois though I'm a lifelong Illinois girl. Let me just tell you that by the time we left I had booked another weekend and signed up to be on a wait list for a permanent spot. I fell in love with this campground and will cherish the memories we made this Labor Day weekend. From the moment we pulled in I knew I had found something special and a place we would come back to for years to come. This campground feels wonderfully nostalgic yet it's very up-to-date, it is meticulously clean and the grounds are kept nearly perfect. Staff and permanent guests are so very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The owner is very present and you can tell he loves what he does. Prices were fair and I NEVER felt the price gorging and extra charges so many other campgrounds have resorted to. My kids have been to MANY campgrounds but by the time we left they were saying this was their favorite! (My little guy asked to have his next birthday there.) This campground is for family, friends and a lifetime of memories! If you are thinking about booking a stay, give it a try, you will not regret it! read more

The staff is very friendly from the time of booking a site to the time you arrive. They come around and pick up garbage. If you need ice and/or firewood they deliver it right to your site. If you have a problem the owner and or maintenance will do the best they can too help you. Lots of activities for kids (some have an extra fee), pool is nice. Highly recommend read more

After having such a negative experience at Jellystone in Amboy Illinois and posting a scathing review, I felt it important to post a review here. I have been coming to this campground for the last 3 years. An overwhelming majority are RVers here, but they are very welcoming and friendly to tent campers. My family and I first chose the tent sites. While there are not many available and they are a little close, they are shaded and have water and electric. The last visit we stayed in the deluxe cabin that was closest to the Rec center. While the futon couch was rough to sleep on (had to steal a spare bunk bed mattress to add cushion) the cabin was clean and comfortable. The campground offers a pool, giant inflatable jumping pad, rec center with daily activities, bicycle rental and a few other things to keep the kids busy. This is a very family friendly campground. While there may not be a ton to do, sometimes that is just what you need in life. Time out to just relax and be social to some strangers, family and friends. I will be back again next year! read more

We have been staying at The Lena KOA off and on for 17 years. This weekend was the big fall kick off craft fair in Galena so you have to book your cabin months in advance. This meant everything was booked up and the KOA was full. Our Kamping Kabin had a really serious bee issue. It was unsafe to stay the night. The owners Joe and Diane quickly jumped into action to help us out. Joe was willing to put us up for the night in a near by hotel. Lucky our party had a second cabin so they moved us to a larger spot that fit us all. Not only did they refund our entire stay they made sure we had a Kamping Kabin that fit all six of us! This was our very first negative experience at The KOA in all the years we've been straying there. Other than having to move our stuff to another site and squeeze in a bit tighter for sleeping space it was a great experience like always! We've been camping here for almost 20 years. It's the BEST. Here's why: it's pretty - lots of flowers and very well kept sites. It's family friendly - really a nice crowd. They know how to have fun, but during quiet hours, it's quiet. Bathrooms - warm water, very clean showers.. so nice. The pool - two slides, and HEATED, which comes in handy in June. Bouncy jumping thing for the kids. Best $5 I spent. Kids jumped hard all day, slept hard all night. Wonderful outdoor kitchen area. Theme weekends! So fun! Friendly owners who take pride in their campground and want everyone to enjoy their stay. And we do - every single time. read more

The staff were awesome and overly nice. While we didn't have an issue with it we found a small egg of some sort in our cabin the staff was very apologetic even though we explained and said multiple times it was fine we just didn't want to touch anything without them knowing as it's a campground and we didn't want to disturb it if we weren't supposed to. The cabin we stayed in was very clean, we were also warned ahead of time that the sirens in the area are also used for the fire dept not just for storms which was nice to know as it was raining during our stay. This KOA is probably one of my favorites. I've been here many times and the staff is really nice. The pool is always clean, the bathrooms are always clean and nice. Cabins are always clean and in good shape. They have a camping kitchen which has multiple sinks and burners for cooking, which is really nice. It's pretty close to Galena so we always go there when we stay. I would recommend this campground to anyone wanting to camp near the Galena area! read more

Just finished three days there. This KOA is very nice and affordable with places for RV's, available cabins, tent space and actual teepees. There are many activities for adults and kids. The grounds are very clean, it is quiet, plenty of available space, and the staff is very helpful. My only concern was a need for more monitoring of the restrooms. The camp office closes at around 8 P.M., so if there is an issue after that it will need to wait until morning. Twice, toilets were plugged (and one was out of toilet paper) when we went to use the restroom. A couple of plungers would be a great addition. Other than that, the place is great and well worth the stay. read more

we stayed several years ago and highly recommend this koa rented 3 cabins and lodge best koa around and hopefully will get to go back soon had a family reunion perfect for teens and young kids. kids loved the truckers honking as they jumped on the bouncing pad clean and well taken care of good owners were very kinds to us read more

As a seasoned traveler, my family and I were so looking forward to this vacation. Upon entering Lodge #1, we discovered it was infested with mice. Mouse droppings were found all over the beds, countertops, floor and sink. We let the front desk know, and they told us the room had "just been cleaned" and they would "clean" it again. Only after our insistence did they agree to set mouse traps. This cabin was truly filthy. Cobwebs everywhere, dirty floors, faucet water that smelled like sewage. We'd go to the pool for an hour and find new mouse droppings when we got back to the cabin. There were very clear, definitive holes in the outside of the cabin where mice had chewed their way in. There was nesting materials coming through the seams of the walls. The owner thanked us for pointing out these holes, but never offered an apology for these conditions. He offered a reason why mice would be running around the campground but had no real plan or solution for taking care of the problem. This was, without a doubt, the filthiest place I have ever seen, and I feel bad for the next campers staying in Lodge #1. read more
