Have I stayed at worse hotels??? Yes. Did I enjoy this hotel and went to come back? ... No The short version: Weird location but safe. Clearly an older hotel, hopefully in the process of being renovated as stair walls and outside doors do not meet Hilton standards. my second floor room had clearly been renovated but my door did not fully meet at door jam, and I could see the hallway from my room. All door was locked. Friendly staff good breakfast. Full review: I don't think I'd stay here again I didn't check in upon arrival cause I used my mobile app and checked in before I had arrived. I have to say I really really like that feature. That's a big bonus to staying at these properties. Found one side door doesn't close-it's permanently unlocked (safety hazard) I was on the second floor. Housekeeping gave me ones that were a big gigantic wrinkly mess. The since counter is too small. created a lot of space by angling the sink that's nice if you need a lot of space, but it is not practical if you need a lot of counter space I chose a king bed and there was so much floor space not occupied by furniture. I found that very nice. That was nice. The bed was made nicely- all except for when you undid it to go to sleep. Housekeeping didn't bother to put the fitted sheet all the way on so it popped off the moment I moved the duvet and I don't know if they're using too small of a fitted sheet or their fitted sheets are shrinking, but you couldn't get it to even cover the mattress. It wouldn't even go more than a centimeter over the mattress's initial edge. Needless to say, I woke up with a fitted sheet cover's edge in my face. This is a BIG pet peeve of mine What I hated about this hotel... which is essentially the root of why it has such a low star ranking : I don't know if they have fire walls. Between the rooms. Why? They definitely don't have any soundproofing attributes. I could hear my neighbors as if they were standing in my room Honestly I think I could hear my neighbor's neighbors as if they were right next-door to my front door, Oh, and now let's talk about the front door. Please take a look at the pictures I have attached. I could see the outside from my door while it was fully closed and locked. Now my room was the first room that you would pass after you got off the elevator and turned left so pretty much anybody who was in the elevator lobby sounded like they were also in my room didn't matter how loud they talked they could be whispering This made for really bad relaxation and sleeping. It was a noisy stay. I think I slept collectively 3 1/2 hours. I definitely wasn't able to go to sleep until after 12 and I had to be up at five The people above me sounded like elephants, but I was expecting that because I was not on the upper level. As far as the room decor, it was all very much updated. There's a lot of complaints saying that this hotel is outdated. I'm thinking it's in mid renovation because my room was fully decorated in the same manner as some of the rooms I've stayed in in the Phoenix area out west Which are on trend. I did notice that this hotel does not use any carpet padding, I thought that was a little cheap. It's nice to have a little cushion But I think this is the way the industry is traveling Before leaving, I did take a look at the breakfast. There is nothing that I could complain about with their breakfast. They had milk bottles they had juice they had yogurt. I definitely understand why there are so many 1-star reviews. I was close to joining them, but in all honesty... it wasn't as bad as it could have been. They've clearly been trying in some areas to improve. In others, though... let's just say they have some work to do. HOUSECLEANING - The one staff member we interacted with was friendly enough. But, when we got fresh towels, they were all just stacked on the sink. Would it really have broken someone to move them a couple of feet to the shelves where they belonged? Also, we were out of conditioner when we arrived (need to bring out own going forward), and the front desk woman was quick to provide us with a new one. But, we told the housekeeping staff about it, and they said they would secure it to the wall and remove the empty one. They never did. The room was otherwise clean, but they only did up the sheets one day, and I think only because we asked them to. FRONT DESK - No issues here. The staff member who checked us in was up front that the digital key likely wouldn't work, and she created our keys very quickly. She also provided us with a couple of bottles of cold water, which was nice. POOL - Ugh, no. It was fairly cold for an indoor pool, which maybe wasn't the worst thing ever. But, it was filthy. The water was almost murky and I could feel "not-water" brushing against my legs. I don't know what it was, and I really don't think I want to know. Just... never again. Also, no towels. We had to snag some from the fitness center next door, as we didn't want to risk using our own body towels from our room. Dimly lit, too. TECHNOLOGY - The wifi seemed to work fine during our visit, but as mentioned before, the digital key on the app did not work. At all. Throughout the entire stay. It's been years since this tech was introduced. They need to get off their kiesters and figure this out. BREAKFAST - This was also fairly underwhelming. There wasn't much variety, and a lot of things were frequently out. I will say this: their staff was usually pretty quick to refill items, even when approaching the end of breakfast time. One of the cereal dispensers was broken from day one, and it was never fixed while we were there. When they did have omelets, they were overcooked and sitting in egg water. Yeesh... ROOM / COMFORT - The room itself wasn't too bad. The mattress is pretty firm, and the pillows are pretty soft. So, it's a weird mix. I definitely woke up sore most nights. The fridge was fine, though... I guess I can say that about it. Overall, it was far from the best Hampton Inn I've stayed at. It might be close to the worst, though. Judging from the other comments, I'm not alone in my experiences. Though, again, I feel like they are trying here and there. Corporate - if you are reading this, send help now!! This is near Kent State University, and not too far from Akron and Canton. It's a great location, but it needs to be helped and fast! Local Management - if YOU are reading this, I know you're trying, but bring in help! Admit defeat and get some professionals in here as quickly as possible! You have a golden location where you are, and you can be so much better than your local competitors (instead of stooping down to their level). Dogs allowed and at check in our rooms was next to a loud dog. No other rooms available, and the staff was responsive. One person at front desk on a busy Friday night. They were very nice as was the other staff ai interacted with. In terms of the physical - it was run down Area behind TV was dirty. The shower filled with water leaving me to think I was standing in the dirty water of many many others. Shower n tub flowed at the same time. Shower curtain was dirty. The front desk employee was amazing!! When we checked in the room was disgusting, especially the bathroom. The only other room they could offer was a handicapped room (which we wouldn't accept just in case someone who truly needed it would check in). So she came with cleaning products at 8pm to clean it herself (housekeeping wasn't available). So 5 stars for her, but shame on Hampton cleaning crew!!! Breakfast was horrible. We came down at 7am and the potatoes were dried as can be, the sausage was cold, the bananas were brown. I mean that wasn't up to par for the other Hampton inn that we visited elsewhere. read more

AWFUL! There is NEVER anyone at the front desk when you actually need them. We booked a weekend stay. Upon arrival we had to clean our rooms shower because hair was still in there, also so much loose hair in out 'freshly made' beds, and the refrigerator had old moldy food in it. I will not here too, the 'free breakfast' is just horrendous. go buy a box of cereal for your room! We went to use the pool, its closed. One lady that I happened to catch working the desk said the pool had been closed for over a month, but never once told to the guests. Lastly, after getting 'settled' we noticed a white pill laying on the ground. NOT OURS! after all the 'i am so sorry ma'am's' were done, i finally called booking to settle it. A full refund was supposed to be issues within 6-10 business days. On day 10 i called the hotel, and SURPRISE... no manager. Was told manager would be in at 9:30am. It was 9:21am when i was on the phone with front desk staff at this time. I called back later around 10:15 am and was told her was not there yet. I asked again when THE MANAGER would be in, and receive an abundance of attitude about not being the keeper of the manager. I then called my bank, booking.com (again and again) and will also be contacting my lawyer to update them on the status. Absolutely terrible experience. The rooms are outdated. The mattress was shot like 3 years ago. The pool is an ice bath. Dirty floors. Someone else's hair in the bathroom. Run down everywhere. The 60-70 year old breakfast lady was rotten. She gave us a hard time about refilling the empty eggs. She brought out only 4 omelets which were all taken so I didn't get any. It was under renovation and they were making loud noise until 6p and then started up again on Saturday at 7a. The room keys didn't work so you had to go the desk to get into your room which was fine Friday night but Friday afternoon you couldn't find the girl at the front desk. RUN don't walk away from this establishment. They treat you like crap. Elevator broke and pool was closed when it opened white caps on the water smells funky not chlorine. This disaster began when this disabled person can't do stairs took 1.5 hours to get a room. They couldn't change my reservation cause I paid in advance. Yet the next day they claimed I didn't pay in advance after almost 8 calls I got my one charge reversed. The staff is sub par clean isn't clean it was a rushed cleaning to get me in the room however the issues in the room where long standing and not something that a every day cleaning would fix. The dust was an inch thick and stains on chairs and carpet. Hilton online said don't stay here too many complaints The site says don't book through Hilton they don't know what they're doing. We arrived only to be told our reservations had been canceled due to overbooking, and we would have to find another hotel to stay the night at. That was the only information we got, and there was not even a suggestion or another hotel or help getting us a room somewhere else. We'd traveled 6 hours already in the car and luckily we arrived in time to easily find another place in town, but had there been a football game or some other event, or had it been late at night, we would have been in serious trouble. No clue if the hotel is worth the stay. Apparently reserving the room is not good enough to actually stay at this hotel. There are numerous choices of chain hotels in Kent, but we are Hampton people so we spent this past Friday night there, while in town for a concert. Location is only a few miles from downtown, which makes it convenient. It's a typical Hampton as far as the lobby and room goes. Check in was quick and our room was clean. We returned back to the room at 11 pm and went to take a shower, but there was no hot water. Oh well, we would wait until morning and deal with it. Well, guess what...still no hot water. It would come in little spurts of lukewarm water. We called the front desk and they said they would send a maintenance man to our room. In my mind that makes no sense since it's obviously a boiler room issue. He came within 10 minutes and ran the water and agreed it wasn't hot. Said he checked the boilers before he came up and one was filling and wasn't hot yet. He blamed it on the fact that the hotel was sold out and everyone was taking showers. That's ridiculous! What hotel doesn't have the proper equipment to accommodate all guests. We ended up getting cold showers which is awful. I have never had so many issues with any hotel, let alone a Hilton property. The first issue is that when we checked in, they told us that the key machine didn't work, so room keys could not be issued. Only one woman was working that evening, and she had to let every guest into their room whenever they needed it. I thought this was an acute issue, and let it go since they had a fix. I felt bad for the poor woman running around to get everyone into their rooms. When we went down for breakfast we decided just to prop the door open so we didn't have to be let back into our room. This obviously was a security risk, and thankfully nothing happened. But we shouldn't have had to take that risk. Also... I should have checked reviews beforehand because I see now this was an issue as early as November 1st? Wow. The second issue was that we had requested a cot to be in the room. We called ahead and were told they could accommodate this. When they brought the cot to the room, we were told that there were no more pillows in the entire hotel, but they gave us the cot with some blankets. Then, when we rolled it into the room, we saw that the room was too small for the cot to fit. We tried to move furniture, but nothing worked. We ended up having to put the cot in the hallway between the sleeping area and the door, which created a fire hazard, as it completely blocked the exit route. Also, it made middle-of-the-night bathroom runs quite comical and the poor kid sleeping on the cot got stepped on multiple times in the process. The third issue was at breakfast the next morning. When we went down around 7:15am, the waffle machine batter was water. We had to track down an employee, who told us that another employee was supposed to have mixed it. Then, once the kids had their waffles made, we realized there was only 1 syrup available. So, we had to track him down again to ask for more syrups to be brought down. There were no bagels, muffins, fruit, or yogurt. Hampton breakfasts are rarely fine dining experiences, but this was the worst "breakfast" spread I have ever seen. To be fair, I didn't bring any of this stuff up while at the hotel. Again, I try not to be high-maintenance. I thought the key card issue was an acute issue (and just now found out it's been going on for months). We found a solution for the cot, even though it made my anxiety high. And the guy eventually did get the waffle batter and syrup situation resolved. What set me off though is what happened AFTER our stay. After we checked out we realized that my name was on the folio, and not my husband's. His work was paying for the bill, and would not pay with my name on the folio. I called the hotel local line and was told that corporate had to fix that. So I called corporate, who said the hotel had to fix it. This went back and forth for a few calls, when finally corporate called the hotel on my behalf and had a conversation with the local hotel. They came back to say the manager would have to do it and wouldn't be in until the following day. They said I'd get a call at 11am the next day from the manager, which I said was fine. Fast forward to the next day, the manager did not call. So, I waited a couple of hours and then started calling the local hotel. The line just rang, and eventually went to a recording that said "mailbox full" and hung up. I tried a few times over the next hour with the same result. So, I called corporate again, and asked them to connect me to the hotel like they did the day before. They did, and when it switched over to the hotel they hung up on me. So, I called corporate again, asked to be elevated to a supervisor, and asked them to transfer me again. This time, the hotel manager (not sure if it was Amanda or Ashley, one was on the phone and the other was in the background) answered the phone and immediately started yelling at me about why they couldn't do what I was asking them to do. And asking me to ask corporate to call them and tell them how to do it. She was clearly angry and was completely unprofessional. If they can't do it, fine... tell me that (though this is a process that could be improved). But both the local hotel and corporate pointing their fingers at the other to fix it is frustrating as the customer. And then for hotel management to raise their voice with me when I finally get a hold of them, unacceptable. I have called corporate back and filed an official complaint against this property. This property is so far below what I expect from a Hilton property, that something needs to be done. In the end it's only $120, and we will just pay it. But Hilton has most likely lost a frequent traveler and Hilton Honors member because of it as well. Hope it was worth it for them. In the meantime, steer clear of this property. Nothing special but very clean and quite with friendly and accommodating staff! The shower drain didn't drain very well but nothing of concern as it was clean. Breakfast included is nothing fancy but has the basics of cereals, oatmeal and toppings, waffles, fresh fruit juices, fruits, breads, sweets, and the regular hotel eggs + sausage. Wow! Wish I had read these reviews before making a reservation. We,too, had a confirmed reservation and received a call at 7:30 that evening to be told there was not a room for us. When I gave them the confirmation number, I was told it didn't matter. When I asked for a solution, they told me to find another room. I almost cancelled our reservations due to reviews saying this place was filthy. When we arrived the lobby was spotless, smelled amazing. Our room was really clean too. The pool was a bit cold but I've noticed all Hampton inns pools are cold. Breakfast was delicious! The breakfast attendant was so nice and clearly loved his job! Coffee was hot our entire two day stay at all hours of the day. The front desk agent did mention they were under new management, so that might be why old reviews talked of how dirty it was. My only complaint is the woman who checked us in said ours and everyone's room number out loud which is a huge no no. read more

This place is a disaster--go anywhere else. I stay at such chain hotels often, logging more than 100 nights/year for work so I don't expect a 5-star experience, but this place was about the worst I've ever encountered. I had an 8 night stay. I requested housekeeping 4 times. I got it one time, plus one other time...almost. What I mean is, when I returned to my room about 5:30 pm, I found my room door was cracked open hence unlocked, the towels were taken away, but no new towels were left, bed unmade, the trash was taken but no bag was placed in the trash can for the next time, no toilet paper roll left in the bathroom. The mattress was so old and soft, I had back pain every morning. The back stairwell carpet was filthy. One of the two chairs in my room was covered in stains...it took 3 days to get it cleaned, and even then I wouldn't sit on it. Electrical outlet next to the bed didn't work. Tiles in bathroom cracked and loose. Large hole in the wall containing the doorstop where a previous guest opened the door too aggressively. Drains drained very, very slowly. When I checked in the gal told me I'd have to stop at the desk everyday to have my room key re-charged--a bit inconvenient. When I asked for towels, I was told I needed to bring my towels to the front desk to exchange them at ~$170/night (included taxes)! I'm sure they only stay in business due to proximity to the highway and have no repeat customers. DON'T STAY HERE!!! read more

Worst Hampton Inn stay I've ever had (and I both love and frequent these hotels as a Hilton Gold Member). Upon arrival, I spent the first 30-45 minutes searching every floor for one of two baggage carts. The front desk offered no apology or assistance and sat behind their desk as helpful as their plexiglass screens against COVID-19. It was clear the room had not been cleaned in a long time, despite the "sanitized" room sticker on the front door, especially with the level of dust on surfaces and mildew in the shower curtain. The refrigerator didn't close or seal properly and the freezer was completely frozen over, making next to impossible to keep our perishables. In the morning, hoping for some daylight, I attempted to raise the blinds - not working, much like the TV and everything else in the room. Normally, I enjoy their dark roast coffee and breakfast - today, we're going to Starbucks because the coffee flavored water and food maintained the overall performance of this hotel and its staff during this stay...very disappointing. read more

I took my youth football team to this location and ran into plenty of issues from being over charged to the GM trying to kick us out at 11:30pm for something that had nothing to do with myself nor the children or the families with our group and when he found out never once did he apologize our sheets had blood stains when we checked in I hate to feel like we were targeted based on our races but hey in this day and age it's not a surprise so I've learned how to handle that however when I spend my money I expect to be treated with dignity and respect and this location failed me so I'm no longer interested in staying at any Hilton Brands read more

What brought me to Kent was a high school reunion for a friend. I'm currenly staying at the Hampton Inn off SR43. This place is very clean and extreemly comfortable. The fitness center was perfect, the breakfast fresh and hot and the business center here didn't nit pick me, letting me use the internet for free. The rooms are updated and cozy. My family and I stayed here during vacation after reviewing Trip Adviser reviews and it was great!. First of all, the decor and furnishings were very nice and modern. The facility was clean and quiet and the bed was very comfortable. My daughter and I loved the work out room and used it several times. Staff was very warm and friendly and very \generous with those baked cookies, (something to look forward to in the evening). The hotel is conveniently located right off of the freeway so it has great access to Akron or Cleveland. However, you don't need to get on the freeway to find dinner. You can just drive down the road in either direction and find eating options. This was a great choice and highly recommended. read more

We had stayed here in early spring to visit a family member at Kent State, and we had a wonderful visit. The check-in was a little slow, but their just was one employee behind the counter. After attending an event at the University, we went out to eat and ended up getting in after 12am. We expected to get right to sleep. Unfortunately, the people on the other side of the wall didn't . The beds were soft, as were the pillows. The bathroom was good as well, with just a few grout stains. And the wi-fi was constant and easy to log onto with a laptop. We ended up falling asleep after 3am. The complementary breakfast is vast in size, but we had prior breakfast plans. Upon checking out, we we're asked if we enjoyed our stay. If our baggy eyes didn't say enough, we pointed out that our neighbors we're quite loud and kept us up. The lady behind the desk (who I assumed was a Manager) was glad to comp us our stay, no charge to us. I would come back to this hotel just knowing that they are really concerned about the guests' stay. read more
