The rooms are fine if very inexpensive is what you're looking for. My room needed repairs to multiple walls and one of the lamps was not working. Otherwise it's fine not great. The owner and staff are awful. Not welcoming at all and really don't give a crap about you when you walk in the door. After reading numerous bad reviews and photo documentation of how horrible this hotel would be, who throws caution to the wind and reserves a room - me?! Sheer desperation brought my family here. Due to a local Fair, there wasn't a hotel room available in Kent or in the surrounding area. The Yelp reviews horrified me but I studied the timeframe of the reviews and hoped things had improved over the years. This was confirmation how important it is to write reviews. I called toll free number and was quoted a price different than the front desk price. Oh well, I'm desperate so I'll pay $94 for a $70 room. The front desk clerk wasn't the friendliest, probably because I questioned her about the awful reviews and requesting a room without bedbugs. She stated they did not have bedbugs and that customers see any type of bug and claim it's a bedbug. Sure, okay. She eventually warmed up and shared information about the area. After walking the three flights of stairs (no elevator) and doing a thorough check of our room and mattresses, we settled in. Our room was in good condition - no signs of bugs, clean sheets and towels, operable microwave and refrigerator, working television and air conditioning. The air conditioner was set so low, the room was bitter cold. I knew that had to be a way of masking an odor but not the case. Our room warmed up and smelled pleasant. You pay for what you get, interior hallways, lighted parking, complimentary continental breakfast and an overall decent room. You will get a decent no frills room in a decent area, surrounded by other budget hotels. Would I come back, probably but not intentionally. My experience with these accommodations are a solid 3 star, an average budget hotel stay. read more

We had a reservation here but did not stay due to the poor condition. The weed/cigarette smo smell was almost overwhelming throughout the entire buildin. Our room was disgusting. The bathroom and refrigerator were dirty. We found pubic hair and large cigarette burns in the sheet. The front desk's only response was "well all our rooms are smoking rooms." The motel is deceiving from the outside. It took a long time to get checked in. Once we arrived at our room, lamps didn't turn on, microwave was broken & the smell of mildew is horrible. I went to speak to the receptionist to get another room as I was stopping to sleep on a cross country trip. The cleaning attendant was at the reception table and had mentioned she told them about the room I was given and all the problems it had but they "don't listen" We got another room. There are pretty clear points to look over when booking a low budget hotel such as this one: Curb Appeal: Clean exterior, nothing out of the ordinary for a Super 8. It was apparent once we arrived that there were many long term guests such as construction workers. Front Desk and Staff: Friendly staff and quick check in process. The front lobby was clean and they had a small breakfast area with pastries and orange juice. There is no elevator in this hotel so it is not handicap accessible. The Room: This is the second time that I have reserved a non smoking room with Wyndham and gotten a smoking room. We didn't complain because we were too tired to switch rooms. The room was clean on the surface but you could tell it wasn't actually well kept. There were cigarette burn holes in the sheets and the comforter and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. The bathroom lights didn't work so that made showering interesting, but the bathroom appeared clean from what we could see. We didn't see any bugs. The Price: We paid under $50/night which to us was great since this is right off the interstate and there were restaurants and gas stations outside. Pets are an additional $10/night per pet and it doesn't cap off. Things to Note: Once again, no elevator and the rooms go up several stories. read more

There were no other hotels available, so I actually went to Walmart to purchase bedding, disinfectant, and air freshener for my stay. This is, without question, the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I didn't have high hopes since it's a Super 8, but this was by far the worst Super 8 I've ever stayed it. My room stunk so bad I could even stay in it. It smelled like a combo of pee, stinky feet & weed. The almost bald woman at the front desk was so rude and unfriendly. She sat outside smoking the every time I needed something and acted so bothered that she had to get off her butt and do her job. Everything in my "no smoking" room was full of cigarette burns. When I realized that I could review hotels on Yelp I decided to relay the experience I had at this Super 8 last August while traveling through Akron. I would have given it "no stars" but I had to add at least one, oh well. I have stayed in many Super 8 hotels, they are not 4 star hotels but they provide a place to shower and sleep, and that's just what I needed this night..... Our problems started upon arrival at this Super 8's front desk. The young woman working there informed us she could not split the bill on 2 credit cards. I told her that I thought it was absurd! Every hotel I have ever shared was always able to accommodate us and would split the charge. The woman at the desk called the manager, who told her not to do it. I told her I was not pleased and to tell her manager it's unreasonable! We went to our room, when my buddy came out of the bathroom he was laughing. He told me the towel rack was barely hanging on the wall. 3 out of 4 screws were not screwed in, including the 4th. We went to dinner. When we returned after dinner the young lady called our room to tell us the manager was there and he would split the charges. I went down to the front desk, where I had 20 minutes of my time wasted while the manager tried and failed to split the charge on his computer. Turns out he was able to charge my buddy's credit card for an additional half days charge though. After standing there 20 minutes I told the manager to leave it the way it was. I went back to the room...... My buddy went to sleep I watched TV. When I turned down my bed's covers I noticed the BED BUGS. I immediately took my bag (which I never put on a bed, always on top of the dresser) and put it back in my car. I ran across the street to the Days Inn booked a room. Went back to the Super 8, told my buddy to get up we were moving. I went to the front desk told the guy behind the desk to refund our room that we were leaving immediately. He asked me if we wanted a different room. I told him I already had one at the Days Inn. When we got across the street my buddy called his credit card company and informed them of the situation, he was told he would not be responsible for any charges. So if you ever find yourself in the Kent/Akron area, stay any place but here. read more

Rooms are adequate and pretty clean. However, if you have the slightest problem with smoke, go elsewhere. The non-smoking rooms are right next to the smoking rooms. There is smoking in the hall, and the attendant smokes just outside the office where the smoke goes into the hall with the rooms as well as the office where the breakfast is. I had to use my inhaler nearly every time I walked through the hall. The breakfast consists of less-than-tasty packaged danishes, cinnamon rolls, etc.; oatmeal; bananas; coffee; apple juice; and orange juice. Although it says it's served until 9:30, you'll be lucky if it hasn't been put away earlier. Nothing seems to be restocked -- not even plates and spoons. read more

After traveling for 12 hours, we arrived at the Kent, Ohio Super 8 hotel just off the highway on Edson Road. This was strategically planned since they allow pets and I had two cats with me. They were $10.00 each to be allowed to stay. The floor in the lobby was sticky, as though it hadn't been mopped in weeks. Who knows what the carpets are like without shoes on. The hotel has some smoking rooms, but it smells like the hotel is smoking. There was a cigarette that had been put out on the interior stairwell... The first room we were given, I opened the door to find unmade beds. I didn't even venture in further than that. I told the front desk and she gave me a second room. I went upstairs and opened the door. I saw made beds, TV on, coffee cups everywhere. I didn't go in further just in case someone was actually in the room. For the inconvenience the front desk waived one of my pet fees. Third time was the charm and our third room was cleaned. But alas, the duvet covers were not so clean. The blankets underneath had cigarette burn holes. The shower spit out brown water when I ran it for the first time in the morning. But at least it was somewhere to rest our head before heading on our way? read more

The worst stay I have ever had. I understand it is a cheap motel. With that being said; we ark for 1 room with one bed simple two night. We arrived and found they gave away that room. So they gave us an "upgrade"we walk into a dirty room where the beds weren't made and towels left on the floor of the bathroom. So of corse we walk back to the front desk ask for a clean room. They gave us one just down the hall. As we lay on our bed we hear burn outs in the parking lot and now the building smells like burnt rubber. Mixed with the smoke and musty smell. I complained to the front desk and I was told I think the "regulars" are working on a car. At midnight mind you. I look out side my window and they are tack welding and grinding out side. THIS EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE!! I stayed at this hotel last year while attending the Hall of Fame festivities so I booked it again this year through Expedia. The nightmare started at check-in when the clerk attempted to give me a smoking room because the clerk "claimed" my reservation said smoking room. I know for a fact that I didn't book a smoking room when I don't smoke and don't like the smell of cigarettes. The clerked asked me to see if the room was acceptable because the only non-smoking room was a king bed. I went to check out the room and lo and behold I was overcome by the stench of old cigarettes. I told her it was unacceptable. She then offered me the non-smoking king room but at a much higher price. I explained to her that I made my reservation months ago for a non-smoking queen room. I called Expedia and confirmed that I had reserved a non-smoking room. The Expedia Rep said somewhere along the line somebody dropped the ball but she would rectify the situation. Expedia decided to pick up the additional cost for the non-smoking king room. The clerked checked me in again. I go to the room and to my surprise walked in on someone who was in the bed. I go back to the front desk and was assigned another room. This room had a non-stop ing air conditioner. I wish I was able to post pictures of this mangled mess of an air conditioner. I make another trip to the front desk to complain about the non-working air conditioner. The clerk attempted to call her boss Yogesh Patel, to contact maintenance. She asked me to wait around until she reaches her boss. First, of all I told her twice that we needed to make our way to the Hall of Fame game. Secondly, it took everything in me not to lay this girl out. Why in the hell would I sit in a HOT room in the middle of the Sumner while she tries to reach her boss? I explained to her AGAIN that we needed to leave. She said she would get the air issue taken care of while we were at the game. We returned from the game only to be told that the air was not repaired but they put a fan in the room! A fan...really? We go to our room only to find out that the key card does not work. Now I'm heated because I have to make yet another trip to the front desk to deal with some more tomfoolery. NEVER have I EVER heard or seen anything like this (unfortunately I cannot post the photos). Now they try to insult my intelligence with some little fan....REALLY??? At this point I'm super PISSED and call Super 8 customer service. Unfortunately they were closed!! I WILL NEVER, EVER STAY AT THIS OR ANY OTHER SUPER 8. THIS EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN HORRIBLE!!! Stayed here while traveling. It was less than $60 for the night. Excellent price. The owner and staff were friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and updated and had toiletries. The outside of the building was also clean and the flower gardens were a nice touch to beautify the motel. Both my husband and I enjoyed them. The only thing that could be improved would be the breakfast area. A choice of a couple fruits would be good but still a good, clean area where a quick breakfast can be had there. read more

I would give this motel negative 5 stars if I could. I had reserved a suite for my, now, fiancee and me for a weekend we had requested off, 2 months in advance. I called a week before to check and make sure it was reviewed and they told me yes. I also told them my plan to propose to her there because that is where we first met. Luckily she caught wind and I decided to change plans and propose a week earlier, out of the blue. I say luckily because when we got there, they told me it wasn't reserved, but they still gave me the deal I was originally told. We then got to the room and looked around, and it was disgusting. There were stinkbugs, literally, everywhere! I'm the floor, the window sills, the tables, the vents, etc. We went downstairs and complained. They only offered to knock %10 off our bill and told us they would clean it while we were out at dinner. We then get back to our room and it honestly looked like they didn't do anything! I am so lucky my fiancee had a feeling that ideas going to propose and i switched the dates. We got half our money back and told the Hilton in streetsboro what happened and that we were celebrating our engagement and they gave us a better deal on a suite. Stayed here for a night recently while travelling cross country for business with an associate. The place seemed ok, stunk of smoke a little, but eh. We hung out watching TV in the room for an hour before climbing into bed. We laughed about how the beds had some sort of plastic liner that crinkled when you sat on it. Then upon getting under the sheets I felt a wet spot on my leg. The bed was soaked in piss. They promptly moved us to another room, but that doesn't excuse the fact that they don't even change the sheets, and this has obviously happened before. I complained via the Super 8 website, only to recieve a call from the manager of the Kent location offering me a 50% discount on my next stay in this particular location. Thanks but no thanks, I should have demanded a refund immediately. I booked the stay through expedia who keeps prompting me to review the hotel, but then every time says there is an error when I try to submit my review. My husband made a two night stay reservation without checking reviews on Yelp. This has to be on of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in! While it was supposed to be smoke free, the room reeked of smoke and there was an ashtray in the room. The sheets were paper thin and itchy and the pillows were like rocks! We tried to get out of the second night stay but were unable. The area was a bit sketchy, too. My recommendation is to look elsewhere!! read more

I have stayed at a few hotels, but this is the worse I have been in. Usually, we stay at the Hampton Inn across the street (which I recommend you stay at), but that was unfortunately booked as was the Days Inn. Upon opening the entrance from the outside, the hallway smells of cigarette smoke. The rooms are worse. They smell like a gym bag that has had a wet bathing suit in it for months. It was stale, humid smelling air. This put a huge damper on the stay. One of the upsides is that we did not find any bed bugs in the sheets, and the beds were mildly comfy. There is an outdated tube TV in the room with less than the shown channels. If I had a choice to sleep inside or outside, I would just take a mattress and take it outside.
