That Unique Curtained Closet
Rogers J.

In December, I had two stays at this property. Both were delightful. Especially appreciate the hospitality and friendly conversation of Ms Debvonnie at the front desk. This is an older property, but it seems to be well maintained. Yes, my room had that unique curtained closet.

My "dresser."
Bill Z.

This is a fairly reasonably priced and comfortable hotel at which to stay for a few days or so. I would not want to stay here for any amount of time for which I might want to unload my suitcase and store clothing in the room (as per my photos). The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. But the cleaning staff was working much later than expected on a Friday afternoon, and during my stay, I kept detecting a musty smell in the corridors. In my room, my "dresser" was a cabinet door you opened to reveal three slide-out metal mesh baskets. The "closet" was the back wall to the right of the window, on which small poles were added on which there were coat hangers. You "closed" this by sliding a curtain in front of it. The hotel does have a nice outdoor pool in the back. Breakfast was okay, free, but maybe not up to what I've had at other Hampton's. The waffles were good, and the buffet included bacon and oatmeal. The bacon-cheddar biscuits weren't quite as good. My stay here wasn't bad, but for a few dollars more, I'd definitely look towards the Hilton Garden Inn just up the road next time.

Hotel went through a recent renovation so rooms are actually very nice. Love the new color scheme Hampton Inn is going with. The check in process is so easy with the Hilton Honors app. My room had a nice view of the back part of the hotel, including the outdoor pool. Staff was welcoming. Breakfast was tasty, and free. Coffee bar available 24/7. Cant go wrong.

My very low score of 2 stars is leaning towards 1 star but the very kind maintenance man who visited our room kept it at a 2. No air conditioning, 3 calls to the front desk over the course of 3 to 4 hours, end result the front desk suggested we open the window. The window did open about 6 inches and did not have a screen. Let's wait and see what kind of bugs we wake up to in the morning. I will edit or add to my review after we check out tomorrow and let, can't wait to see what management does with this.

We had a door that was basically to the entrance. We had to keep the blackout shade down the whole time instead of having a window we could look out of sometimes. The lights in the bathroom were crazy bright with no other option and came on with a sensor you could not turn off. Our second night, the sensor must have been tripped by people walking too close to our door (they went on as soon as you entered the room), since the lights went on without either of us getting out of bed twice. This woke me up and disturbed our sleep. Very annoying. Lionne's food was great, but the service was definitely not very good. Friendly, but not good - especially for breakfast. You pay for parking too. They charge you per night and give you two tickets to get out. You have to pay any other time. They did charge slightly less than you'd pay otherwise, but not much. If not walking to your events on campus, I'd recommend staying elsewhere.

Outside of front desk team…read moremembers being friendly, the overall experience has been well below general expectations for a Hilton - and even basic expectations of any hotel! Some serious concerns about this hotel: 1- First night the air conditioning would not work. It was uncomfortably hot in the room. Called the front desk and the person said no one was around to help - so "just open a window." We did, and had an evening with an open window with no screen. Luckily no daredevil squirrels climbed in and no birds - or bats - chose to invade our space! 2- After three days - there had been no room service. No fresh towels - no emptying of trash - and no replacement of toilet paper. This was after I was leaving the room one day and "room service" was at the door and, in a somewhat rude manner, asked: "Do you want room service?" I said - "oh yes - thank you - I was just leaving." She appeared to go into the room - but I have no idea what she did as, again, no towels were changed out, trash was still in the trash cans, and beds were not made. 3- We ran out of toilet paper, so we asked for some - and then went out. I have included a picture of what we found upon our return - toilet paper left outside of the room - not even brought into the room and put on the roller. 4- An unexplained charge appeared on my card from the hotel - at 11:11 PM when the whole family was in bed. I inquired on this, and as of this time, no one at the hotel can figure out what was charged - still waiting on that to hopefully be explained and, if in error, resolved. 5- The treadmill in the gym has been broken and out of order - as such, I had to go to Planet Fitness. Yet, we have been charged a $10/day "resort fee." This is NOT a resort - and am entirely unclear what this $10 a day charge is going toward. 6- While hot water worked in the morning - by 9:00 PM we did not have any hot water. I called and the person at the front desk said "oh, just keep the water running - it has to come from the other side of the building so it takes awhile to heat up." Uhm, we left it running for about 10 minutes - just cold water. I am unsure how this hotel was allowed to have the Hilton name. Needless to say, we will not be staying here again.

Stayed over this past New Year's Eve and were pleasantly surprised with free garage parking thanks to Downtown State College and were even able to check in early around noon! They cant guarantee early check in due to fluctuating guest numbers but it never hurts to ask. The ladies at the check in desk were very pleasant and helpful explaining everything included in our stay and some area attractions we might like. Our stay included free breakfast, a perk that makes the extra cost worth it to stay and to our surprise the hot items change daily! One morning it was pancakes, hashbrowns and sausages/ham, the next cheese omlettes, breakfast potatoes, bacon. They always had staples like yogurt and fruit, oatmeal, cereal and bagels and coffee and tea so there was something for every taste. The women stocking the bar was very nice and answered any questions we had about the food. Again we had a large king room, comfy bed and plenty of room space and a large bathroom. Only room complaint was there was an awkward partition in the room that made it strange to talk if someone was on the couch and other on the bed. Felt like I was talking to someone in another room. Other than that I look forward to staying here again when we visit the area!

As soon as you walk into the lobby…read more.. There is an EMPTY desk with a sign on it directing you to take the elevator to the second floor for your check-in. That's a very cold first impression.... You should have somebody at that desk, checking people in with a secondary location available on the second floor. For security reasons alone.... That is a big mistake. I have traveled across this country and to many other countries.... You never walk into an empty lobby with a sign on a desk. miserable fail..... I took the elevator to the second floor to check in. You need to know your license plate number which I didn't. Therefore, I had to go back downstairs through the cold lobby outside to get my plate number. This place does not have its own parking and they make you pay for the parking deck across the street. They do not own that parking deck, so it is packed with just anybody... Very inconvenient.... I've been coming up to Penn State since my son became a student 20 years ago and then I subsequently bought rental units. I do not usually stay at this hotel, but my Hyatt card allowed me some free nights at this place, so I took them. Your room key also works the elevator. That is quite bizarre. I am familiar with a room key, giving you access to a penthouse or restricted floors but not every floor. Are you worried about Security? Why don't you put a member of your staff at that empty desk in your lobby? You know where that large staircase is leading up to the second floor? Somebody with ill intentions can easily walk into your lobby walk right up the steps to where people are gathered at the bar or the restaurant.... There is nobody to stop them at the first point of entry. Bizarre. July 4, 2026 day one Barely any television service the entire afternoon or evening. I called a few times about this issue and they seemed less than impressed. There is this sound of water through the pipes in the bathroom that rushes through consistently and then it's very loud and I'm not sure about it. The room was very clean. July 5, 2026 Headed to the second floor for their breakfast. I have to start a painting job so I was there at 6:30 when it opened. The buffet was very clean and well organized. Food was good. Then I headed to the front desk, where I spoke to Martin about the television set. I told him I had already called the day before a few times. He said he would have it checked. I went to work. I came back at 4 PM. I could not get into the parking garage. The card that they gave me suddenly stopped working. I called to help button and they told me to cancel on the screen. I did that and it offered me a ticket to pay for parking. So now I will have to bring that to the front desk this morning before I head out to work. When I arrived back at my room, my room was not cleaned. I had to call the front desk and ask for towels and coffee. They came up right away. They did not leave me any bottled water for the coffee. I called the front desk. They told me they do not give out more mini waters after the first day. It's literally two bottles of miniature waters that might add up to one regular bottle. This place is supposed to be considered upscale in this neighborhood.... Im from the city so upscale has a different meaning for me. I would not stay here again for one very important reason only.... That entrance point into this hotel is open to anyone and everyone. There is nobody on the first floor to check anybody. That is a HUGE security breach in a time where Security needs to be at the forefront of our minds.
