Stay away from this hotel. Their room is full of bugs and give any importance if you complain. I found bugs coming out from my underpants after my complaint and requesting them of bug spray my room. They did not do any bug spray TO ENSURE WE ARE BUG FREE. While looking like the old Hampton Inn it is, the rooms are updated and clean. I checked in via app for the digital key. I went to the counter at 2:45 and checked in the old fashioned way and happy I did. Staffing, hospitality really is either short staffed or the oversized attendance overwhelmed the function. Springsteen was in town so the hotel was sold out. If I waited for the digital key I would have been one of almost 20 sadly lurking in the lobby awaiting a cleaned room. At 6 pm! Overall a very good stay and we would be happy staying again. We checked in on a late June Saturday for one night. The process was easy. While the outside seems outdated, the indoor areas are clean and up to date. Rooms are on the smaller side but no issue for us the bathrooms are a good size. Our room was clean and beds were comfy. Morning breakfast was fine with hot omelets and meat, bread for toasting (including gluten free option), yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit, etc. No fresh oatmeal or waffles. The hotel was nice enough and clean, but the front desk staff could not help me with being overcharged for my stay after over 100 stays with Hilton properties my issue with the price of the room for the night went beyond that, though the hotel staff was telling people, including me that it was a walking distance to the stadium, but it was not It's a four-lane highway going to the stadium with a 200 foot grade no lighting no sidewalks a danger to anyone who tried to walk to this Stadium from this hotel. This is a fairly reasonably priced and comfortable hotel at which to stay for a few days or so. I would not want to stay here for any amount of time for which I might want to unload my suitcase and store clothing in the room (as per my photos). The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. But the cleaning staff was working much later than expected on a Friday afternoon, and during my stay, I kept detecting a musty smell in the corridors. In my room, my "dresser" was a cabinet door you opened to reveal three slide-out metal mesh baskets. The "closet" was the back wall to the right of the window, on which small poles were added on which there were coat hangers. You "closed" this by sliding a curtain in front of it. The hotel does have a nice outdoor pool in the back. Breakfast was okay, free, but maybe not up to what I've had at other Hampton's. The waffles were good, and the buffet included bacon and oatmeal. The bacon-cheddar biscuits weren't quite as good. My stay here wasn't bad, but for a few dollars more, I'd definitely look towards the Hilton Garden Inn just up the road next time. read more

The check in process is so easy with the Hilton Honors app. My room had a nice view of the back part of the hotel, including the outdoor pool. Staff was welcoming. Breakfast was tasty, and free. I visited the Hampton Inn during a recent trip to State College. My first impression wasn't great. Upon arriving at 4:00 p.m., I entered a packed lobby with people sitting everywhere and not enough front desk staff. I quickly learned that Bruce Springsteen was in town (not the reason I was visiting) and the hotel was severely short staffed! With no rooms ready (thus the people sitting in the lobby). I changed in the lobby restroom and went out to dinner. When I returned to the hotel around 8:00, our room was ready. I was shocked upon arrival to see how tiny it was! The 2 of us (friends) were not thrilled to share the tiniest bed ever in the smallest room imaginable. Rory at the front desk understood our frustration and worked some magic to get us into a room with 2 beds (thank you Rory). From that moment on, my experience was wonderful! The room was large, clean and comfortable. The staff was delightful. The warm cookies in the evening were great! The breakfast was nice. After a rocky start, my experience at the Hampton Inn State College was wonderful and I would return without hesitation! read more

Unfortunately the pool was closed due to renovations. The rooms are clean and comfortable, except for the tiny pillows. I was really taken back to see a Pakistan couple and their college age son allowing there dog to eat off of a plate on the breakfast table. The guy who greeted us at the front desk was pretty friendly and helpful. The outside looked very outdated but the inside looked nice like it had just been renovated a few years ago. I cannot say enough about how clean it is the sheets even smell fresh! We came in and the front desk was making fresh cookies and it was just what we needed! We r lifetime Hilton Diamond members and have stayed in a lot of your hotels. There is no reason to be loyal any longer as none of the employees give a darn. We went down for breakfast at the 6:30 this morning. No one at the desk or in the food service area. There were a few dried out scrambled eggs. Some old sausage. No serving utensils. No milk. Luke warm coffee. The young woman that check us in last night was very chatty and nice but did nothing to "serve" the customer. I had to ask for water. The room 304 was mostly clean. I found a nasty hair at the sink. The door of the bathroom needs replaced as it is pretty wrapped and stained and looks like someone kept their dog in there and they scratched the heck out of the door. My niece was stranded for a day and needed a room. My niece was coming home for the holidays and her flight was canceled. The dorms had closed and all her friends were gone. I called the Hampton Inn State College because I was familiar with the hotel brand and spoke to Devaney. I was able to book a room for my niece and uber her to the Hampton Inn. Devaney was really really helpful and made me comfortable that my niece was in a good place. She answered all my questions about getting her food and ubering the airport in the morning. She reassured me she would take good care of her. When my niece checked in she didn't have a working phone charger and needed her phone for travel back to the west coast. Devaney loaned her a charger! I can't say enough about the fantastic service we got. I would definitely recommend this Hampton Inn. read more

Beds were SO comfortable that I'm buying one soon. Staff is super nice, the location is convenient, great complimentary breakfast saves you time and money. Dining options within walking distance, just a few yards away, and the service at the restaurants close by was great too, very friendly. If I could move in permanently I would. Also, it's so nice (and rare) to have American staff, such a pleasure compared to the usual daily drama experience in this country. Housekeeping was detail oriented and diligent, I got VIP treatment without asking for a thing, everything was offered, needs were anticipated and the staff seem to all enjoy their jobs and care for their guests. In fact they asked if we would be back because they enjoyed our visit. That was unexpected and sweet considering they were fully booked. This might be my preferred hotel brand now, the beds are like sleeping on a cloud, I've already booked another Hampton knowing I'll get the best and most comfortable sleep ever. read more

Okay in terms of cleanliness, awful in terms of any Covid protocols. The state was experiencing a surge at the time, so there actually was a mask mandate, but you would never have been able to tell at this hotel - the only staff member (or person other than ourselves) wearing one was the person who checked us in. The only signs I saw that acknowledged Covid were the ones telling you to stand apart in the elevator and that Lysol was used in cleaning. The complimentary breakfast was set up like in before times, so I was making my waffle when a maskless, coughing man decided to make one right next to me. No sneeze guards anywhere. Truly gross, and sad that this is how Hilton is running their businesses. read more

Somehow my reservation had been cancelled prior to my arrival (I make all of my own travel arrangements and I didn't have a cancellation email so I'm not sure what happened) but the desk clerk took care of everything. Decent stay here recently. The staff here get 5 stars, particularly Aaron at the front desk. Super nice and helpful. It's a typical Hampton Inn. This place has been around for a while, and perhaps the walls are a little thin. The wifi is a little slow, but I really wasn't there for the wifi. Just a place to sleep. Breakfast was your average breakfast at these types of places. I wish there were more (or any) healthy options, but that goes for any place that serves breakfast these days. Beware they will tow your car! My wife and I checked in Thursday with a 3-night reservation. Saturday night we headed out for dinner only to find our car towed and a sign on the door stating to call the tow company. Amanda, who checked us in failed to offer a parking slip knowing the GM was going to show up Saturday and tow cars. There was no message left in our room, nothing posted when we checked in and nothing offered. We had to take an Uber (along with 7-other guests) across town and pay $170 to get our car out. When we asked Roslyn when we could speak with the GM she said he would be in Sunday. However when we checked out the lady said he was no going to be there today and would take care of it on Monday. Here we are on Tuesday and no resolution. We have had to reach out to Hilton corporate to get help. I am HHonors member along with my wife and this is the most incompetent Hampton staff I have ever experienced. Roslyn was arguing with me along with some dude that worked in maintenance. Just terrible. I will never stay at this Hampton and I would encourage everyone else not to as well. Lastly, my bill was off by $270 because again Amanda had no idea what she was doing so I had to spend :20 mins on Sunday checking out, hearing that Brandon wasn't coming in on one of the biggest weekends of the year to reimburse me (too busy towing cars Saturday), trying to fix my bill, and watching a kitchen staff pick something off the floor with her gloves and later touch bread tongs, etc around the dining area. I had an amazing experience at this particular Hampton Inn when I was in the area recruiting for the career fair. I usually don't write reviews for hotels, but I will for this one because of the wonderful experience that I had during my stay. There were so many small things that were so thoughtful and made my stay wonderful. First off, every one of the staff that I interacted with went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and welcome. Not only was I offered complimentary refreshments upon my (late) arrival, I was asked what my preferences were for where I'd like my room to be located in the hotel & if I required any additional toiletries. They provided a very nice hot breakfast in the morning that runs from 7 to 10 am with fresh waffles, fresh cut fruit salad, cereals, yogurts, pastries, etc. They asked me where I was going on campus and if I required any assistance. We weren't aware that we had to have a printed employer pass to park freely on campus....without even me asking, one of the staff members asked if I was aware of this and printed it off for me and gave me directions. I'm hooked. Signed up for a Hilton Rewards program because of my experience at this particular hotel. I'm a consultant so I travel a lot, and these guys blew quite a few other hotels at their level out of the water. read more

Was getting ready to lay the hammer down on this Hampton Inn after I tried unsuccessfully to cancel one night out of a three night stay. I've been traveling to girls' volleyball tournaments for years now and I know the drill... Stays are normally a two or three night minimum. But when I booked this stay (way back in 1982, it feels like) no one mentioned a minimum night stay and even when I called earlier in the week, I was told I could cxl one night of needed. When I tried to do that, I ran into a roadblock, all the way up to the asst GM (a very nice fellow by the name of Paul). OK so I did the three nights. This place was very clean, but the crowning touch was the breakfast. It's not Eggs Benedict and fresh-squeezed OJ, but it's a really good spread with some dcent breakfast items, including those cool waffle makers. This is in regards to reserving a room for May 2017 Graduation: Called Hampton Inn last week---they said to book online starting June 1st at noon. I go online today at 11:59 AM, clock strikes noon, and I still can't book for that weekend. Repeatedly try booking, but keep getting directed to a webpage with a hotel door and the message "reservation system is down." At 12:22 PM, I call the desk, upon which I am told that the hotel has booked up for that weekend. Don't understand how I was unable to reserve a room when I was online before, during, and after noon today. read more

As a Hilton Honors member, I stay in a ton of their properties across the country. I therefore have a good idea of what to expect when it comes to this chain. Unfortunately, this particular hotel location doesn't meet expectations and is in dire need of a refresh. The rooms are stale, old and not the cleanest option for a State College visit. In fact the hotel reminds me of an overpriced beach chain that can get away with upcharging simply because of the location. In this case, it's the fact that the hotel is a mile or so away from the PSU stadium. Maybe that explains the odor of spilled beer and vomit on the property. Trust me, this hotel is NOT worth the price of admission. And Hilton, if you're listening, you can do better. Remodel this location and stop charging an arm and a leg just because a bunch of rabid PSU fans are in town. read more

Reserved two nights about a month out, already inside the 60 day cancellation policy window. Had to cancel and asked for flexibility, as son had suffered a bad injury and couldn't join his team for a game at PSU. Nope. Even called a week out so the hotel would have time to rebook the room on a busy football weekend. Still no budging on the cancellation policy. Charged a night plus taxes. As an extra bonus, no HH points if you don't stay, even if you pay. I took a look at some Marriott hotels and see they have a 1 day cancellation policy for the same days. Checked the hotel's status for the dates I had and they're fully booked. Guess they get paid twice for the room. Too late this time, but the next time I visit State College I'll stay elsewhere. read more

Amazing experience. I was passing through college park on a road trip out west and needed a place to crash. Thought penn state would be cool. The staff here is super friendly. They hooked me up with all the local hot spots. There is actually an awesome sports bar right next door. They Gave me a cookie and a bottle of water. The room was super clean. Had a great nights rest. Saw a bunny rabbit out my window. The breakfast was definitely the highlight. Belgium waffles. Fresh coffee and fruit. Western omelettes. The list goes on and on. It was clean, not sparkling, but enough to feel sanitary. I think my icky feelings came from the humidity from the bathroom, it didnt have a built in humidifier in the ceiling like most hotels do so the moisture consistently lurked throughout the room. Also the towels one day left fuzzes all over me, got some in my eyes, took a couple hours rubbing my eyes to get it out. The towels also had an apparant smell to them, like old mildew kind of smell. Nothing outrageous just enough to sigh about it. Internet was poor, it kept disconnecting, and front desk wasnt much help about it the 3 times I called. Didnt try the pool, just didnt have time, looked nice. Water pressure in the shower was great. Tub wasnt deep enough to take a bath. Breakfast may actually have been the only take away but I'm a foodie so it doesn't take much more than the words free food to get me interested. Mostly the same stuff everyday but the two " breakfast entrees" available were different each day. A reasonable variety of choice from oatmeal, fruits, yogurts, bagels, a waffle maker with batter ready to go only took about 2 mins maybe. All in all it wasnt horrible just room for opportunity to get more stars. Really wish there was an option to order room service. Also the website mentioned the restaurant next door called the Tailgate Sports Bar and Grill would deliver to your room, they do not. In a nut shell could have been cleaner, could have better Wi-Fi, could have room service, and lastly could have deeper tubs to take a bath. read more
