I'm originally from Korea and have lived in the U.S. since I was a toddler. Every now and then, when I'm craving traditional Korean ingredients and flavors, this is the place I visit. Sure, H Mart has a larger selection, but it's a bit too far for me, so this spot does the job well. Don't expect anything fancy here. There are no frills, just quality ingredients and traditional Korean foods that you can take home and cook yourself. There's no kitchen, no hot food being served, and the layout is pretty basic. In fact, most of the staff are usually working in the back and will come out when they hear someone come in, which always gives me a chuckle. At the end of the day, this isn't the place to visit if you're looking for a prepared meal. But if you need authentic Korean ingredients for home cooking or even want to experiment with Korean recipes, it's definitely worth checking out. read more

Sometimes I wonder why I shop in the local grocery stores when the produce section of this H Mart has by far better quality fruits and vegetables as well as selection. The seafood section has plenty to choose from and always has a selection of live crabs (smaller size, but fiesty). The checkout lanes are not joke, rapid movement, not like other stores. The selection of ramen is pretty good and one should experiment with the variety, Korean, Japanese, Thai, and Chinese styles. On the price side it does tend to be higher, but the place is always clean and organized. Stop by the pre-cooked section and there are always decent selections for a quick dinner or for picnic lunches. read more

When I saw that there was a market called "Han Ah Reum" in NC I got so excited! I come from Northern VA and there's a chain of korean grocery stores called H-Mart...and they used to be called Han Ah Reum, so I thought this was part of the chain. Unbeknownst to me, Han Ah Reum means "arm full of groceries" and so it's commonly used as a grocery store name. Anyway, once I passed my initial disappointment, this store is quaint (read: small). It does have the essentials for all your asian cooking, especially korean food (Gochujang, kimchi, frozen octopus, etc). There's a bunch of kitchenware and kdramas for you to browse through as well. There just isn't a wide selection...but, it'll do. If you live near Cary, I'd recommend heading out to S Mart, which is MUCH bigger and has more variety (and a restaurant inside!). But this place isn't bad at all and would be worth a trip to if you're nearby. read more

I lived in Korea for five years and absolutely loved the smaller mom & pop stores that were scattered all over Seoul. My gripe there was the prices often changes and were rarely marked. Luckily, Han Ah Reum is consistent and always prices each item. This place is right next to the DMV and is run by a husband and wife team. Their produce is mostly local and they make some fantastic kimchi. If you are looking for basic Korean food and household items, this place will suffice. If, however, you're looking for more rare or unique items or fresh fish, then this won't do. All in all, I frequent this place bi-weekly for the basics and have no issues. read more

A wonderful place to get Korean food that you can cook and otherwise play with when you get home. As soon as you walk in, the owner will greet you with a loud annyeong hasimnyika no matter where she is in the store. I usually head straight back to the fresh veggie section, passing everything from bags of rice and noodles to pots, pans and disposable chopsticks in the process. In the refrigerated cases you will find the homemade kimchis and banchan, big bags of bean sprouts and green onions, tiny eggplant and long, long beans. When I hit the freezers, squid and octopus, mussels and clams happily jump into my basket. Then comes an aisle where I am tempted by all the essentials of Korean cooking: sesame seeds, oils, kochujang, sauces, anchovy paste. You'll find other items here, ranging from coconut milk to dish soap to candy to videos. I have fun every time I shop there and I always end up with something yummy for lunch or dinner. And the prices are good. I can't ask for much more than all this. read more

I'm spoiled. Back in Jersey there's a full-sized Han Ah Reum Korean Supermarket and it is a WONDERLAND, my friends. Kim chee and pickled everything in happy little containers and bags tagged for the taking... a food court nestled right in the side of the market... well-priced veggies and greens, many of which you wouldn't know what to call them in English (including a bulk-purchase area!)... more frozen mandoo options than you can shake a stick at... *les sigh* But, for a little Korean-flavored taste of home, I do have the tiny Han Ah Reum Mart, right in the little strip mall where the Goodberry's and the License Place office are. Here, I get my Korean food necessities at decent prices and without having to schlep all the way out to Grain Asian. Sure, I get funny looks... but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do when she wants an Asian pear or twelve. read more

Cute little grocery store with complete assortment of Korean and other Asian grocery items, although the storefront isn't very conspicuous and shop size quite small. Owner is a Korean family and one of the older checkout ladies doesn't speak any English, but is super nice. We are Chinese and come here occasionally to buy Asian style vegetables and other sundry snacks or dry goods. Recommended for anybody who likes or is interested in trying local Korean food items. read more

I was previously very excited about this small, locally owned Asian grocery store. Before this time, I had given it 5 Stars. I took my boyfriend to this store, who had a new credit card. This was his first and only purchase on this card and he began receiving purchases on this card that he didn't make... To say the least, I am very disappointed and won't be returning. read more

I love Han Ah Reum. A small family owned Korean Market. Fantastic Kimchi and Mandu; I could browse the store for hours. The owners are very friendly and the selections are more than adequate considering the size. As George said it is very reminiscent of the type markets you will find throughout Korea. I find their prices a bit lower than some of the other Oriental markets, probably due to lower overhead. i find everything I need for the occasional Korean meal except for maybe the meats or fish.
