The noodles (Pancit) were delicious, full of veg and pork, and WOW! the serving size was huge : 0 as I asked the server to STOP filling my plate b/c I could not eat that much. The fried rolls ("Shanghai") were tasty, flaky and crunchy, hot (pork maybe?) and another vast serving size (10-12!! : )= I was also given some roasted pork entree as a sample for free after I inquired about it .... awesome. The food was freshly made and as it was lunch hour I could see they were in the midst of making all the food items so they were all uber-fresh. Friendly, and helpful team. So good. 6-8 tables for seating. Small and clean. Store: Small. I did not see any(?) fresh food. Lots of bagged food (crisps, snacks, tea) and jarred items (salted fish, etc). Tucked inside the Oriental Mart, Filipino Express Restaurant was my first true taste of Filipino cuisine and I just cannot get enough of it. It is the go-to place of many of my Filipino friends, who have introduced me to many popular and even some uncommon delights. My previous knowledge of Filipino food was fairly limited, mainly to the traditional items which of course, Filipino Express has. Their lechon kawali (fried pork), pancit (noodles) and lumpia (Filipino spring rolls) are must gets, with each item being super fresh and tasty. Despite my admiration for the classics, there are so many new things that I've tried here that are also fantastic that I just can never decide. I guess that is why we always over-order. My new love is sinigang, a tangy soup that is filled with pork. While the sour may throw you off, it is so comforting. The longganisa is a Filipino sausage that has a unique sweetness to it that is just undeniably great. And the kare kare is a unique take on pork, with the main sauce being made of peanuts. It is a rich dish, but a unique flavor that is good at balancing out the fried and savory flavors. Lastly, I first experienced a halo halo here and it may just be a top 5 dessert. It is so much fun to eat, and delicious too! I covered some of my favorites here, but this really just scratches the surface of all of the amazing things that Filipino Express offers. The fresh food bar is one of my favorite things about the store, and their produce is consistently some of the best you'll find. I also always stop by the deli for their freshly sliced cheeses and turkey. The bakery and prepared meals are excellent too, and everything just feels higher quality than your average grocery store. The store is always clean, well-organized, and the staff is genuinely helpful. Wegmans has set the bar for grocery stores, and I wish there were more of them.

My bride and I decided that stopping somewhere after church would be the best way to find the remaining ingredients. I tried one Asian market a bit further down the street and could not find any fresh produce there. Stopped here and hit the jackpot! Exactly the produce I needed to finish my recipe. The gal at the checkout counter was very friendly and wanted to be sure we had found everything we needed (or wanted). I now have some tasty home made Beef Pho, and while I have not perfected the recipe, it is certainly a good start, especially now knowing I have a place that is not miles out of the way to shop for my ingredients.

I have eaten at MANY ethnic restaurants where language is a barrier and have not had a problem getting great food and service. I overheard some of ladies speaking English so that was not even the issue. So I took my family AND my money down the street to Pho Cali House where money is green, food is excellent and service is wonderful. I would not recommend the grocery/restaurant to anyone.
