This awesome ice cream shop is a must hit if you're in OH. It's been around since the mid 40s so you know they take their stuff seriously! This one is located right down the road from the Marriott & it's really easy to get to. Plenty of space for parking & even on a Wednesday night with weather In the 40s there were a good bit of people. I was greeted & served quickly. There isn't every flavor online at the various locations because it looks like they rotate flavors; there's still TONS to choose from. They let you have samples so might as well try a few. All 3 flavors I had: s'mores, strawberry cheesecake chunk & banana cream pie were delicious. It was hard to choose between them but I settled on the strawberry cheesecake. The ice cream had a great ratio of strawberry puree & cheesecake chunks all throughout. The waffle bowl was pretty delicious. I also noticed how cheap it was. For a waffle bowl with a solid serving of ice cream it came out to less than $5! You can't find ice cream of this quality anywhere cheaper. I will definitely be back & I highly recommend stopping if you're anywhere nearby an Handel's. It's some of the best ice cream I've ever had. read more

While this is my first review of Handel's, I first started going to the iconic custard stand in 1963. My parents would take my brother and I to dinner across the street (The Golden Drumstick) and we ALWAYS went to Handel's afterwards. The location was the first - at Market and Midlothian, where it still stands today. My mother would always get the butter pecan, my father and I the chocolate pecan, and my brother, the chocolate. Terrible. They said they were "out of" hurricanes and milkshakes because it was 30 minutes until they closed and their machines were already cleaned. It's not like we were there 5 minutes before they closed, and I know it doesn't take that much time and effort to clean a machine like that. The girl was very ignorant about it when I was trying to figure out how they were out of a hurricane if it's just vanilla ice cream and a topping, so we just left. Hoping the manager will train them properly to serve customers when they're open and not turning people away because they close in 30 minutes and are too lazy to clean a small machine again. read more

Love Handel's ice cream. We don't have it on the west coast and it always a joy to come here. We actually come to this location more than others due to proximity. I would imagine that all locations are just as wonderful. We ordered Pistachio (more pistachio nuts than any other ice cream I've ever had). Pink Champagne Sherbet and 2 Salted Carmel Truffle. We ordered a bunch of ice cream here. 4 scoops of vanilla for the our dogs (super dog friendly place). I think coming here and seeing so many people bring their pets makes coming here even more fun. Rather shocked to see that I am the first to review this location of Handel's. Nonetheless, if you're in Ohio...make it a point to visit this place! This isn't Carvel, Baskin Robbins or your average ice cream truck fare. This is top notch "how the hell did they think of that flavor" stuff! Rus had the birthday cake flavor, which I thought tasted a bit odd...but definitely unique. I had Coconut Almond Fudge Ripple...aka spectacular. Very heavy on the coconut flavor, so don't bother if you're not a fan. I really wish I could eat ice cream here everyday. Just looking at the list of flavors is enough to make me go wild. I've experienced many Ice Cream joints growing up, but this one is my favourite fosho! My ultimate favourite flavor of all time is definitely Cotton Candy! I also love Mint chocolate chip, thanks to my ma'ma! The texture though, whenever you open your mouth wide open as if you were about to eat the whole entire spoon, yeah, let's all act as if we're dragons, right?! Not only is the ice cream amazing, but the employees at this location are friendly. You can taste as many samples as you want as well. My favorite flavors of Handel's for the past 16 years (man, I feel old) is Chocolate Marshmallow and Black Cherry. Can't believe they have had those flavors for so long! They have many signature flavors that haven't changed over the years, along with new flavors and seasonal ones. For $4.75 you can get a pint of your favorite. They are never shy on chunks of yummy treats swirled into the ice cream. You truly cannot go wrong with ANY flavor, but my favorite flavors are graham central station, peanut butter parfait, and anything featuring cheesecake or pecans. Seasonally, I love the blueberry cobbler, midnight madness, and twixter! If you're just trying it once, you must have chocolate pecan. I could keep going, but I think you get it. Youngstown staple. A Youngstown classic! 5 star ice cream for sure! This is by far the best ice cream I have EVER had! The menu is HUGE with options for everyone. I have tried tons of flavors, and I've liked all of them. Some of my favorite ice cream flavors are Midnight Madness, Spouse Like A House, New York Cheesecake, Peanut Butter Parfait, Cotton Candy, Oree-Dough, Butter Pecan, Red Skies at Night, and Chocolate Malt with Caramel. All of the sherbet flavors are great too, but my favorites would have to be Pink Champagne and Raspberry. I love the Hurricanes, which are like thick milkshakes. Locations are open year-round, which is a rarity for most ice cream locations in northeast Ohio. My personal favorites include Graham Central Station (graham cracker ice cream with swirls of cinnamon sugar and chocolate-covered "crispies"), Spouse Like A House (vanilla ice cream with chocolate-covered pretzels and peanut butter), and, their most famous, chocolate pecan (soft, smooth chocolate ice cream with huge salted pecans). All of their flavors are exceptionally delicious and homemade. Ask for samples to find your fix! My only "complaint" is that they aren't open past 10 p.m. The best way to avoid this bad situation is to pack your freezer full of pints just in case. Handel's sets the bar for ice cream. There's not much more you can ask for. We went to this location at about 7 PM on a cold Sunday in late December. There was a line at both windows about 7-8 people deep at each window. After a 3-4 minute wait, we got a couple quarts to go. The homemade ice cream was hand packed right in front us. Their flavor selection is unrivaled. We had to keep the flavors simple because of the picky kids so we went with strawberry and vanilla with oreo. Creamy with just the right amount of sweetness. No iciness or processed flavor. There were chunks of strawberry and Oreo cookies in each flavor respectively. Try every flavor you can, they'll definitely have something you'll like. Word is, they're expanding to put a location in Vegas, which will be a great treat in 110 degree weather. read more

We just landed from Florida and our second stop was Handel's! Our first stop was where we're staying. There is nothing like the mouth-watering flavors or the creamy texture of Handel's when it comes to ice cream. We're not big ice cream fans, but we would be if we lived here.
