I would really like to rate this at least a 3 star but my mind and heart won't let me! Don't be fooled by the 5 star ratings and awards they got for best daycare in Milpitas. My child was there for 2 years. Imagine that. I can't believe I actually stayed! Reason why I stayed was because it was close to home and I already got into this daycare and was lazy to search for a new one! I am not a religious person nor is my family. This is a Christian daycare just in case you do not know. The part that bothered me the most was that some of the teachers are so damn lazy and rude and don't even get me started with the owners. Owners who pays their teachers super low while they vacation together once a year for a week. Probably from ALL the profit they make from crowding all those kids in their daycare. There are only a few teachers there that I think are doing a great job, but for the rest (thumbs down). My child liked it there but she doesn't know any better. She was too young. By the way, before you go and apply they will screen your child to make sure he/she can fit well with the environment and with other kids. So, if you child does not fit well they will not be able to get in. Oh and the waiting list is ridiculous! I can't believe I actually waited (I didn't know any better at the time). There are so many other daycare's in Milpitas that is much better and spacious. Yes, Hands on Learning is about $20 cheaper than the rest but I'd rather pay the extra $20 hec, even $50 for another daycare. read more

I'm so happy we found this place! My family and I were actually on our way to turn-in paperwork for St Johns Catholic school, and passed by this school on our way. I looked over and remembered the name from a Yelp search I did earlier in the week. We stopped off and my husband walked in. He was pleasantly greeted by the Director who asked him to come back after nap time at around 3pm so our son could participate in the afternoon circle time and we could see how he liked it. First, you should know that my younger son has never attended school. We were very leery of making sure that we found the right place for him. Happily, we found it! The teachers make sure to know and help my son. They truly teach him something -- it's not a daycare situation -- they teach them skills they need to be successful in Kindergarten. It's an added bonus that he's learning about the Christian faith. We love at they have a Christmas Pageant, Thanksgiving Feast, etc. and teach the kids the value of each holiday celebration. Also, their prices are absolutely reasonable. I think their only negative is that their curb appeal isn't great. Don't worry though - the inside is really nice :) read more

Two friends referred us to Hands On Learning Center for our 2 year old and we have been enjoying our experience for the past 7 months. The staff is very friendly and nurturing. It took my super-clingy child a few weeks to stop crying when he got dropped off, but they did an excellent job consoling him and making it fun each day. Now my son begs to go to school on Saturday mornings because he has so much fun. They also pray before eating and have Bible stories on Wednesdays. They have so much variety as far as activity and playtime. My son always recants the day and sometimes I am amazed at all activities that they do. They also provide a monthly calendar so I know what the theme is for the day so that we can talk about it our way to school.The teachers are very patient with potty training and was able to transition my son without any pressure on him. Their communication is excellent and the staff is very honest. They tell me if my child was naughty or if he didn't eat his food. They call me at work if there is anything wrong. I am the type of parent that wants details because I know that my son is a handful, so if a caregiver tells me everyday that my son is an angel, I know they are lying. I don't write too many reviews but my experience with this school is something I would definitely want to share with others. Everyday I leave knowing my child is well taken care of. read more

Long overdue review as my first child attended back in 2015 and currently have my second enrolled. Hands on Learning Center is the only place I will put my kids in before grade school! As a first time parent, it's a struggle to find a school that you can trust. Luckily for me one of my good friends had their daughter enrolled and she had nothing but wonderful things to say from the teachers/staff to the curriculum. Both of my kids were/are very shy and I wanted them to gain social skills and get acclimated with a routine before attending kindergarten. Having them attend Hands On Learning did just that and went over and beyond what I expected! My interactions with the teachers are always pleasant. I love how I receive messages/photos of my child throughout the day. As for my daughters, they would always come home raving about what they did, learned, and how much they enjoy being in school. What a wonderful place! My son started school here a couple of months ago and loves going. The teachers are wonderful! They help comfort children that maybe "clingy" at first. They make it a less uncomfortable sitution for the child. I was surprised to see how big the facility was when I stepped foot into it. The environment is very warming. Their curriculum is well structured. We are Catholic and were pleased to see that the school teaches some Christianity. Tuition is very reasonable. My experience with this Center was good. They pretty much did what they could with the instructors there. The teachers were all very productive and caring. What I did not like was when I saw them "reading" a book to the group of children with an audio tape but I guess if you have an accent that makes it unclear then that works. The spacing for the classes were a little distracting I thought but noise is nice. This way the kids would have to focus and pay attention to their teacher and not the other kids or teachers doing their thing. I noticed after a while the rotation or schedule of the day for the kids was more well thought out. Our daughter was registered into this place by the recommendation of a family member who had their child in an older class. It was a very memorable holiday/school experience for us to see. read more

My son has been attending Hands On pre-k program for 9 months now & I am VERY proud to say he has learned SO much here. From distinguishing colors & shapes to writing his first & last name to knowing how to do simple addition. This place is wonderful. His teacher is Ms. Andrea & you can tell she really cares about her kids. The entire staff is just as great as my son's teacher. When I pick my son up from school he tells me he loves his school & is happy with his friends. They do a lot of hands on activities with the kids & even put together a graduation ceremony for the older kids that are moving to kinder. It will be a sad day on his last day of school, but I am happy this place left my son with so much knowledge & hopefully memories (if he can remember). I highly recommend this place. My son attended Hands On Learning Center from age 2.5 up until he left for kinder. My daughter is still there and she's been there since 3 (now 4 years old). We were lucky enough to hear about Hands On Learning from friends that grew up in Milpitas with us and had either enrolled their kids or had kids there in the years past. This helped with the research because considering pre-school is so overwhelming. All the teachers are very helpful, caring, and nurturing! They help bring structure to the table because all the kids follow the rules and are taught the very basics of respect. The staff seems to deal with the kids who are misbehaving very carefully. We are constantly getting comments about how well behaved and well articulated our kids are and I give a lot of credit to the staff at Hands On Learning Center. My son started kinder knowing his alphabet, was able to count to 100, basic math, and could spell quite a few words including his first and last name. A few observations to note: - additional convenience - when I call to inform that I will be picking up either or both of the kids early, the staff will have the kids ready with their lunch boxes and sweaters. - friendships - my kids have gained so many friends and we plan to stay in touch with them post graduation - graduation ceremony - there is a graduation ceremony that takes place every year and its a great event hosted by the staff - comparison - my co-worker has her son at another pre-school and she shared with me that her son's preschool lets the kids watch a big screen TV playing cartoons for half the day and the staff is very informal chewing gum and walking around the facility texting. When she shared this with me, I really learned to appreciate what we are getting from Hands On Learning. At Hands On, there is one small TV (that I've seen once because its in a box and only opened for special occasions) and I never see any of the staff with mobile devices - though they do make the time to send us text messages about how the kids are doing. They obviously do this very quickly and discreetly to avoid distracting the kids. read more

Horrible! Totally unorganized in every aspect of the admin. My daughter is 2 about to be 3, and this was her first day in preschool. As any kid would be, she was excited! Because she tried to explore the area they called me to pick her up after 3 hours because she needed to much one on one time. My opinion? Lazy teacher that didn't feel up to task helping a child new to childcare adjust in time. After only 4 hours of class, they said she is not a fit and gave me my money back. Lazy and unorganized teachers. I hear the class for kids around 5 is good, but stay away from the 3 year old class if you value your child's development. read more

My son just started but he loves the school! He's excited to attend preschool and comes home talking about all he did during the day. They do a lot of academics and he's learning to write his name and has homework ever Weds. His teacher Andrea is wonderful and text me when my child wasn't feeling well. This is a clean and well structured preschool and their weekly price for full time is very competitive. So far..I'm very happy and hopeful for the rest of my son's pre-k school year there. Both my daughter and son attended Hands On Learning Center. My daughter is now 11 but was very pleased with their service so I brought my son 6 years later. Both were very shy but interacting with the other children brought them out of their shyness. My son was not potty trained when he first started at 2 years old and I was struggling in training but they were able to help me potty train. Ms. Andrea is great. She helps with discipline, social skills, and academic skills. Price is very affordable. I highly recommend Hands On to any parent. read more

They also have a strong academic curriculum. Our girls entered into kindergarten as part of the advanced group. My information may be dated, but when I had a donation of new beanie babies to make recently I immediately thought of Hands On Learning Center. My children (now 21 and 13 years of age) attended here before starting Kindergarten. I was pleased to see the same directors and a few familiar teachers still working after so many years. I would highly recommend this school if you are looking for a loving environment where your children will be cared for and learn from a dedicated staff. I still remember the annual Christmas pageant and other fun times that my children were able to experience. After attending Hands On they both tested and were accepted to Catholic schools and excelled thanks to the academic preparation received at Hands On. read more

I had sent my son here about 2.5 years ago. I love the location. The teachers there were very caring. They help potty train my son because he would not potty train at home. Their bathrooms (for the younger kids) had around 5 stalls and sinks. Very helpful. They would all go potty at the same time which helps others who weren't potty train to understand the concept of "going to the bathroom ". Each sink had their own soap dispenser. So they were taught to go to the bathroom and wash their hands before meals and after playtime outside. There are 2 separate large rooms for pre-kindergarten and toddler. They are taught their ABCs and 123s. They teach the kids about God. They do LOTS of arts and crafts. And they warm up your kids lunches. Some places don't offer that which can be difficult if you got a picky eater. And their prices are totally affordable compared to most other places I checked out. Preschool starts at 9 and if you're there early then they serve cold cereal Not everyone eats breakfast but it's offered which is nice and appreciated. And I couldn't say enough about the staff there. Everyone made use feel welcome there all the time Some daycare/preschool don't allow younger siblings to visit but this place does as long as you are watching your child. read more

I went here for a tour. They didn't have official tour. they just asked me to come in. Kids were crying and they were being ignored teachers said the kids need to figure it out. Very chaotic. If it was possible to give negative rating I would for this school and their Director Caroline.What they did to my son is horrible . I started the enrollment process in May and met the assistant director Isabel I told her that my son is on the spectrum(he has high functioning autism, only needs help understanding social ques) and he needs a therapist to come to school to shadow him and guide him to understand certain social situations, she said they allow that and asked me to bring my son for a 30 min discovery day which i did and we stayed for almost 2 hours and it all went great and she said that as their is no spot at the moment he can start from Aug 7 2018 and gave me all the forms and asked to bring him again for an hour or so as their was time for him to start school. I went for another discovery day and Ms Caroline observed my son that day and she met my sons therapist and talked to them,later she she asked me to complete the forms and i paid the registration fee, i even checked with her if everything is ok and i can go ahead and give 2 weeks notice to my sons old school and she said everything looks great. On Aug 7 when i reached the school with my 3 year old excited son to start new school Ms Caroline asked me to talk to her and told me that "this is not going to work out" and that we lied to her about how much help my son needs and was extremely rude when i asked her if their was any problem why did she asked to pay the first weeks fee and fill out the forms she had no answer and said" its my right and i can do whatever i want". I swear on God me and my husband never lied and gave all the information truthfully we followed the entire enrollment process. This school does discrimination and we are filing a complaint against them. They broke my little son's heart , i had to tell him he can not go to the new school the next day and he kept asking me why mommy, mommy lets go and for no reason , none of them can still tell me why they didn't call me if they had any doubts. I took my son off his old school and they denied my son to come to their school he doesn't have any school at the moment and all because of that one horrible discriminating person Ms Caroline. read more

This is an excellent preschool that I highly recommend! All teachers treat your child like their a part of their family. I have three daughters that are 3 years apart and all three girls have attended Hands on Learning Center. It was their home away from home. My daughters learned a great deal and it prepped them for elementary. They started to learn how to read and write early on. They also potty trained two of my girls. I love that it's a Christian-based school. My youngest is entering kindergarten this fall and we can earnestly say we'll miss the teachers so much. read more

Our granddaughter came here and I have to say it was the best experience for her! All the staff and teachers were sweet and charming. Miss Anita taught her so much in a short amount of time. She and all the teachers showed concern for her and we really appreciated all of them. I would recommend this school to anyone!!
