I scoured the…read moreinternet for reviews on the different test prep companies for a couple days before coming across Manhattan Prep GRE. There wasn't much information about the classes, but a lot about the company's test prep books, which were highly rated. I thought about getting just the books, but I had done that a few years ago with the Kaplan books and never followed through. So I signed up for the free intro class in hopes that I'd be more motivated and receive guidance on how to study. From the first class, I had a sense that this was going to really prepare me. So although the course was expensive, I signed up. Julia was my instructor and from the very beginning she was warm, straightforward, and insightful. It's obvious she's brilliant, but not in the 'look at me I score perfect on the GRE without even trying' type of way. She works hard. She's very familiar with the questions on the test and gives clear cut guidance on how to prepare. During that first session I received a course outline. This was helpful as it identified which sections to prioritize. Most weeks I wasn't able to get all of the assigned work completed, but I did what I could and I still got a lot out of class. I would recommend that you at least complete the high priority assignments so that you can get your questions answered in class. The company was also quite responsive. After signing up I received the box of the test guides in only a couple days. The shipment was very fast. When I was out of town for a couple sessions the company was great at getting me scheduled for makeup sessions. I took these sessions through live online courses. You do receive access to online recordings of each class through enrolling so you can also use those if you miss a class. I didn't use them, but it was good to know they were there. I did use the online practice tests and the online flash cards. For the times that I needed to be on the go, I downloaded the e-book versions of the test prep guides onto my laptop. It can be tedious to carry the big books around, especially because there are over 8. Overall I'm really happy I found Manhattan Prep. Like the reviews said, the prep guides and online practice exams are top-notch. The practice exams show you the specific areas in which you're performing well and need to improve. They also give you information about the time it's taking you to complete each problem. I had more than enough practice. Julia's instruction took my preparation over the top. She really set me off in the right direction and kept me on track. She scores your practice essays, reviews the results of your practice exams, and drills you each week. The classes are held at a nice hotel in Harvard Square. As I predicted, being in a class gave me more motivation to follow through. Once the classes were done, I checked in with Julia to set up my study plan for the next 5 months. I didn't follow it exactly because of work, but I completed mot of it. I wound up taking the exam in November of 2012 and I had no anxiety. I slaughtered the verbal section and kept up with the math, both of which were great improvements for me. I would recommend this class to anyone needing a kick in the butt to get started with their GRE studying and/or wanting a proven method of success. If you do enroll: bring an extra layer because its cold in the room and take Julia up on her offers to review your exams and score your essays.

You get the course materials but have to return the problem set book at the end of the course because it is proprietary to them and they don't have any online tests besides the pre-assessment to give you. The teacher was a nice guy but he just read to us the whole time. Based on my friend's experience I was expecting there to be support and guidance on memorizing the common items and drills and quizzes. There were just short quizzes and we only went over items if someone wanted to not in general. On the last day we took the assessment test. The guy teaching the class was in the room and fell asleep. He started snoring and we just had to continue on. Recently I ended up taking another in person course that was cheaper, gave me all the materials and had great online tests and resources and I passed without issue. I wouldn't recommend this course to anyone - save your time and your money (this course is very expensive) and either look at other in person courses (there are other really good ones around) or find something online depending on your learning style.

A word of caution to anyone choosing a training partner: Be wary of a company that tells you up…read morefront you will have access to a course for free upon completion of their course, but then says you must submit a Yelp review before they will grant you access.! My previous review was written solely to gain access to the free course that was promised. What I didn't know at the time was that access to the course was restricted to an arbitrary 60 day window. When I asked if that window could be extended, I was told it would cost $99 for a 30 day extension. Rita responds to queries quickly while you are arranging payment, but once you have paid, be prepared to go to the back of the line. Although the test bank of questions offered by PMTI are top notch, PMTI will require you to return the book (that you paid for) to them at the end of the 4 day boot camp out of fear you may post it online! Very trusting. There are better companies out there to cram PMP material into your brain.

Personally, my greatest gain from Manhattan came from their clear and concise Logical Reasoning methodology. No fooling around with unnecessary classifications or anything like that, just telling you how to tackle the problems plainly and simply. They are serious about selecting and training their teachers, so the quality level is very high all around. I would definitely recommend Manhattan to a fellow LSAT prepper if they feel they would benefit from outside help during their studies.

The atmosphere was great as well, went with my friend and we each ended up leaving with two of our best pieces (a bowl and a plate). We were able to choose our glaze from a set of house glazes at the end for staff to apply after they trimmed and fired our prices. A clean working space and seemed to have dedicated staff. The members coming in and out of the studio were a fun surprise as well to see them do their craft - everyone was very polite.

My son and I were both impressed with the pace and content of the first course. In the first course, all students were afforded the opportunity to show the Python skills they learned during the course.
