Basically you ask the guy for what you want, and the guy gets real annoyed you're there, and he wanders around looking through boxes, and after a few minutes you get a verdict. It's sort of like Bernard Black in Black Books. Even if you want to shop with a mom and pop store, these guys make it difficult. It's the kind we had back when they were experts and you could trust their word even though it wasn't a huge place or fancy. Honestly it was nice to find this store because it's nice to talk to someone who isn't trying to make a sale by ripping me off. They may not have it in stock but they can get anything quickly and with fair prices. I prefer ro support small businesses because years of expertise come with the service instead of a clueless zombie that will give you anything to shut you up and get you to leave. It's difficult to suggest they are competitive when their stock is limited to empty slots for what might be competitively priced items and large selection of higher priced items. I cannot remember how many times I've walked in here only to walk out empty handed because I could not find what I was looking for and there was little or no help from staff. If the savings (extra gas and time vs price tag of items) is worth it for me to head to a big box store, off I'll go. Latest example for me was stopping this past weekend to find a new faucet for a bathroom sink. There were only one or two brands available at this T&C location, and nothing on the shelf under $40.
