Been following this place on Instagram for a while and finally got the chance to drop in and get some Christmas gifts for my plant loving friends. The prices are reasonable, the plants are plentiful and the staff is friendly and helpful. This will have to be my new go to garden center. Without a question. And they're dog friendly too and their plant stickers will have a paw print if the plant is safe for pets. How sweet and considerate is that for them to put that on there for homes for pets. In need of a seasonal gift for my sister who JUST closed on here new home hours ago. I'm in Buffalo (Go Bills) and she's in Durham, NC. I googled "Top 10 Nursuries Near Durham" and reviewed the list. Many only had seasonal hours and weren't even open. For Garden's Sake was number one on the list and now it's number one in my heart. Amy Sikorski answered the phone, listen to what I wanted, (which was something to act as a Christmas Tree, indoors for a few weeks, then could be added to my sisters landscaping) went out and took pictures of options and texted them to me. Out of all the options I selected what she had initially recommended. (She knows whats up!) She added a bow a card and even told me of thier latest holiday special which lead to me adding a 1/2 priced door wreath to my order. Done-Delivered! Wow! This place is a gem! I can't believe I hadn't visited here before! They have a wonderful selection of outdoor flowers, tress, shrubs, and all sorts of plants. They definitely have a unique variety and section it off in a super helpful way. They had a shaded garden which was awesome and gave us a ton of ideas of stuff to buy for our yard. The prices were reasonable and comparable to other plant shops in the area. I know they also have a unique selection of houseplants, but we didn't check those out this visit. It's the end of September so they have a really awesome display of pumpkins and gourds. As well as all the pansies you could wish for. They also have their powder blue ford truck decked out with pumpkins and hay bales, the perfect Fall photo opp. This is also a wonderful place to bring kids. They place was pretty packed with families. I will say almost everyone had a mask on and everyone was respectful of space. All the employees had masks on as well. For kids they have goats and chickens to take a look at, a small playground, a koi pond with a waterfall, snack shack, and plenty of space to picnic. It's seriously a wonderful spot to spend the morning. We grabbed a slushy from the potting shed and it was delicious, more Italian Ice than slushy though. You can even get champagne added into your slushy for a lovely adult treat. They had plenty of socially distant tables set up to enjoy your snacks. We went on a Sunday and they also had a food truck which was a great bonus!! My family and I will definitely head back here soon, it's a perfect spot to check out what's in season and have some socially distant fun. Oh and bonus, leashed pets are welcome!! read more

The actual nursery is very nice. However, I would not use the services of their landscaping service for either installation of plants or for outside lighting. We had significant problems with both their service and installation of the outdoor lighting and with the service of the installation of the plants we purchased from their nursery. They claimed to warranty the plants, but they did not stand by their warranty when a few plants died in the first year. Not to mention they promised to add proper soil in the beds before planting them in the first place and our ring camera caught the team not doing this. We had to ask them to come back to add proper soil. They also made miscalculations of the lighting installation, provided a written quote, and then asked us to pay extra for the installation due to their mistake on the quote. Do not use their landscaping services. Very poor execution and poor customer service. read more

This place is awesome! We have bought plants from them in the past and their staff were always very knowledgeable and helpful! Most recently we have visited a few times to let our toddler play on the playground, watch the ducks, and feed the goats! It's usually pretty quiet and other families keep their distance during covid times. If you ask the staff they will give you some animal crackers to feed the goats! There's also an old cemetery on the grounds. It was really flooded on our recent visit, so I didn't walk in, but looking forward to exploring next time. We are also looking forward to a time when we feel comfortable visiting for a class or an event! read more

This place. ROCKS. It's a gardening center as well as a social gathering place. In terms of gardening center, they have a great selection of indoor and outdoor plants. My favorite part is that they mark which plants are pet friendly... very important to me with a dog who loves eating plants! Their staff members are very knowledgeable and welcoming. They also have a beverage bar and have events there too! I'm addition to that, they have a petting zoo area with a pond. This place is my happy place, and I highly recommend. read more

We've driven by here on occasion and even stopped in once or twice before. We had won a gift card so decided to stop in on a Sunday afternoon to get some plants for our yard. They have a large selection of sun, part-sun and shade plants from trees and shrubs to ground cover and perennials. One of the staff made some recommendations after we told her what we were looking for. There seemed to be plenty of staff around. Checkout was quick and easy and they emailed us a receipt for our three plants. It looks like they also have chickens and goats on the property, and offer classes. I've always been driving to Home Depot for my plants and flowers but after coming here one morning on a weekend, I think I found my new go to place for all things garden related! I made sure to arrive early in the morning to avoid the worst of the humidity and heat. Once you pull in, you'll be directed to the gravel parking lot in the back. When I was there in the morning, there was plenty of parking. The staff are very friendly here. One girl helped me to find some perennials for my garden. They have a huge selection of plants, definitely a lot more than your Home Depot or Lowes. Since it was my first purchase there, I even got a free bar of gardeners shea butter soap! The girl at the checkout also told me that they have drinks like Mimosas at the nearby shed after a certain time of day. All the info is on their website. FGS is a garden oasis with all kinds of plants and shrubbery , plenty of knowledgeable staff on site to help and food trucks and areas for the entire family that make this more of an experience vs a plant shop. Parking was easy on a Sunday afternoon and we got a beautiful hibiscus plant and azaleas. I heard about this location from a local blogger and started following them on Instagram . If you sign up for the newsletter you also get lots of helpful info. The prices are a little on the higher side yet you are supporting local. I have passed by so many times and never knew this place existed. I saw an awesome review on Instagram and decided to check this place out. As we pulled in we noticed the goats and chickens on the left side. I had no idea how big this space is! Covid restrictions are in place, felt completely safe. They have lots and lots of flowers, herbs, shrubs and pots. They also had a food truck out today and space to hang out and enjoy your food. They also have the potting shed where you can grab drinks to enjoy while strolling thru this wonderful garden. They have a few pumpkins but my favorite was the photo op! So cute. read more

This place is a plant-lovers dream come true! Like many now stuck in their house thanks to COVID, I began adopting some greenery throughout the last few months to brighten up my space. As I made the move to Chapel Hill mid-pandemic, a friend suggested I reward myself with some new lush bbs for my new place. When I pulled up here, I felt like I was in plant paradise. The layout is amazing! If you have kids, they'll love the goats and chickens happily prancing about. I walked in and was immediately helped by the warm, friendly staff. My haul ended up being a beautiful, rare Sansevieria Black Dragon Snake plant ($45), a Calathea Ornata ($20), and a cactus that could double for Pikachu ($3). I was tempted to get some pottery, but figured I'd save it for another time New customers get $2 off their Potter's Shed, which has Italian ice. So I'll be back for that as a treat sometime soon. read more

Tl;dr: Great local nursery with goats and ducks! Helpful staff, healthy plants and garden supplies. Went here as we were building our patio and needed final touches of greenery and flowers. Looked up local nurseries and this one pulled up so we paid it a visit. It was toward the end of the day so the staff was free and helpful. This was our first time buying full sun flowers for our planters so they gave us the insight on what kind of soil to get and what kind of drainage they prefer. Also, since it was our first visit, we got a free first time gift! I'll keep the gift a surprise for all of you newbies. Visit the goats and the ducks while you're there! read more

This is a really cool place. We just moved to hwy 751 in May and wanted some plants for our new place and found we were about a mile from this nursery. It is so unique! Not only do they have plants, pots, soil, and all the necessities, but it's a whole experience - they have live animals that we saw the kids petting in the distance, a booth where you can buy drinks and iced treats on a hot day, plenty of space to walk around, and a lake where you can picnic. Since there's a pandemic, we kept our distance (and there's plenty of space to do so) and didn't try any of those things but look forward to when we can! We ended up with some beautiful selections for our deck's planter box (picture), and I especially enjoyed looking at the wide variety of succulents! read more

We love FGS. We have been buying plants from FGS for years. They are always good quality and survive pretty well. This year we used their design services and couldn't be happier. We now have a master plan for our house and the plan delineates projects that we can do each year. This year we had them redo our whole front yard. The staff was very knowledgeable and professional. In 2022, I finally decided that the poor drainage situation in our back yard had to be addressed. I've had other landscape services that disappointed me and was determined to get a qualified & dependable company this time. I researched the landscapers in the area and found For Garden's Sake was a well run and very reputable organization. I reached out to the folks at FGS and gave them a description of the problems we were experiencing. Nick contacted me and we arranged to have him survey the property to do a landscape consultation. During the consultation, my wife and I worked with Doug (FGS's landscape architect) to detail the items we had to have fixed and some others that would be a 'nice to have'. From that, FGS developed a proposal showing all parts of the planned project with explanations for each segment. We then had a meeting with Doug to adjust the scope and materials to fit our budget and, once it was agreed upon, schedule the work. We were away for the initial portion (regrading and old sod removal) but were there to see the rest as they progressed. The worker were efficient, competent and considerate of us and our property. Total time for the work was 11 days. The results were amazing! One of the best parts was the work done to create a walkway and disposal bin pad from the garage driveway to the backyard deck eliminating the walk through soggy grass. I would highly recommend FGS for their expertise and professional work. The people there are devoted to making the customer satisfied and providing the best service possible. read more

I moved from Indianapolis and have been looking for a great garden store and have found it. It is far for me from North Raleigh (takes 30 min) but is worth it. They have a great selection of perennials for both sun and shade and in the right size for planting, not too small and not too large. They have a nice annuals section, a gorgeous area for inside plants and then trees and shrubs. It has it all in one place. The only thing that would be helpful is identification of plants that are more deer resistant. read more

This place is so cute! We saw them on instagram with lots of photo-ready spots for Fall family pictures, so we gathered our dog and our best flannel and headed on out. They had some very cute spots for photos- lots of pumpkins, a rustic truck, etc. We also noticed they had play sets for kids. The goats were so adorable! We ended up getting our Halloween pumpkins here. They also had a large selection of mums, gourds, and lots of other stuff for your yard. I thought the prices were very reasonable and you couldn't beat the selection! The staff were super friendly and helpful, too. I'm so glad we discovered this place! Just a little gem in south Durham. First time here and even in the rain it's gorgeous. I checked out the houseplants first and there wasn't too much of a selection but then I found out why - they have Tropical Plant Tuesdays this summer when houseplants are at a discount! I missed it by one day! The remaining plants look well taken care of and the space is beautiful. There is an outdoor potting station and the landscaping shows off their selection of outdoor plants - perennials, annuals, shade loving, azaleas, evergreens - you name it, they probably have it. Just got into houseplants this year and when I tell you this place is awesome! They have such nice staff who is always willing and available to help and answer all questions. Being a newbie in the houseplant world, this was great because I had questions. They have an indoor greenhouse for their houseplants which is so neatly arranged. Their offerings were amazing and I found many of the plants on my list that I wanted and ones that I didn't know I needed! Their plants are so healthy and all of them have been thriving. Do you just want to be in the company of plants, animals, and interesting/ knowledgeable people? FGS checks all the boxes! My husband and I have self-proclaimed brown thumbs but FGS made us feel inspired to keep trying! All the plants are grown in the region which means they're already acclimated go NC temperature and soil. It's a very encouraging starting point. We brought our 14 month old daughter and 18 month old friend from out of town and both babes had a wonderful time feeding the llamas and goats and swinging/sliding on the playground. I joined FGS email list because I'm curious about what wholesome activities we could join throughout the spring/summer The gentleman that helped us said they offer professional landscaping. I love the selection of plants and plant pottery. The location is what's most attractive. It's in the outskirts, has a pond, a cutesy adult drink spot, alcoholic and nonalcoholic slushees, food truck, chickens, goats, ducks, and I think roosters. A fun place to shop, but their recent changes are a step back not forward. For Garden's Sake is the place where most people go to get a dose of fall injected into their veins by going to buy pumpkins, take some photos on a vintage pickup truck that's decked out in fall decor (pumpkins, hay, etc... you know the vibe). This place has become a somewhat notable instagrammable location in the triangle area thanks to the store's aggressive social media team. Last year my wife and I went with our little dog to buy some pumpkins and took some photos. It was a nice way to spend a quiet sunday. For Garden Sake has changed a bit due to either covid or just wanting to capitalize off of the foot traffic there. Some of the changes are nice, but mostly it feels a bit overly crowded now and trying to do too much now.  Since last year this place has really expanded and changed some things around so that the nice instagrammable spot isn't close to the parking lot, it's pulled back closer to the main garden building so you have to walk through lots of the plants and things to buy. I totally understand the change for business. It does make it tough to bring your dogs to this spot to take photos since they're just going to want to pee over every new plant they see. It's also set up so there's a fairly busy road in the background as opposed to a lake in the background like it was before. When we went there were a bunch of teens hanging out by the photo spot trying to get the best photo they could, and we even came back 15 minutes later and they were still there. The way foot traffic is funneled into that corner of the property is just a bad design change from last year and really should be retooled. There's a new spot where you can day drink, which is nice for those day drinkers. It's just a strange addition to a plant store. There's also a ton of staff members walking around with walkie-talkies and while they are helpful there's so many of them it feels like you're being watched.  This year was earlier than when I went last year and the pumpkin selection was pretty pathetic. I'm not sure if they add new ones each day but going at 2:00PM on a Saturday two weeks before Halloween you'd think there'd be a decent selection, but there wasn't. We bought some smaller ones but I was really disappointed there weren't any decent large pumpkins to buy. Maybe they refresh the stock each morning but I was really surprised at how bad the selection was compared to last year. This garden center is still very nice but it's just trying to do too much now. The last thing I want to encounter while buying plants is people day drinking. I get that the owners are trying to make this place an attraction during covid and especially during fall, one of their busiest seasons but it feels so slapped together that it loses a lot of what made this place special in the first place. I'm still going to shop here but I really hope they tone things down next year and embrace what made this place so special and ease up on the gimmicks. read more

They've doubled their houseplant selection which is really cool. They had some rarer plants and now that renovations are complete there's WAY more space and plants which is cool. Also the outdoor plants and trees etc have a wide variety, theres QR codes which offer info on different plants and the staff are super helpful and excellent (although sometimes they ask me if I need help when I'm just trying to browse). Would be nice if there were even more native plants but there's a good selection and they seem to be adding more. 10/10 will be back again to take classes (theyre $10 I think) read more
