We stopped at No. 900, a casual Neapolitan pizzeria with several locations around Montreal. This one was especially convenient because it's right next door to the Residence Inn. Since I was joining dinner, we settled outside. It was getting a little cold, so rather than sit on the ground like some sort of common street dog, I remained bundled up in my carrier. Comfort is important when conducting restaurant reviews. Dad ordered the Margherita pizza, which looked perfectly respectable. Mom, however, ordered the ham and roasted mushroom pizza. Ham. Suddenly I was considerably more invested in dinner. The pizza arrived with big pieces of ham scattered across the top, and after what I can only assume was an intense internal debate about whether she really needed all of it, Mom gave me some. Finally. A restaurant review where the critic is actually permitted to sample the food. The ham was excellent. I would have liked to conduct a larger sampling for quality-control purposes, but apparently there are "limits." The humans were very happy with their pizzas, and the warm, freshly made pizza was exactly what they wanted on a chilly night. For me, the combination of outdoor seating, carrier-level coziness and actual participation in dinner made this a successful evening. Dogba's verdict: 4 paws out of 5. To clarify: there was no line to wait in. They just decided to have their cook focus on taking payment from 20 people who were finishing and paying up AFTER I ordered my food rather than cook my 2min hot dog first. One alternative option: have a cook and have a person who takes payment, orders, etc. I'm still not sure what the other employees in the resto were doing.

New Montreal style pizza…read more Considering I've not heard of or tried "old Montreal style pizza"; just sayin'. The crust, similar to the NYC pie. Thin, gently crisp, some chew and char. Easily foldable. Follow it up with just the right amount of quality ingredients are brought together in just the right proportions with quirky flair. Upside down pizza (cheese first, sauce on top) or stranger still, a double carb potato pizza. Speaking of, the potato pie is so good. All the ingredients from a potato mille feuille with a hit of fresh rosemary and grana padano atop the well made crust. Rich, creamy, nuff said. Equally good the mushroom with its "mushroom cream" (think a thin duxelles) base, rosemary to season and meaty creminis and motz to round it all out. Finally the sopressatta. I mean, come on, who doesn't love a cheese pie made even more complex with goat cheese, honey and grana padano? Sold by the slice or whole 18 inch pie. Inexpensive. Is it better than the NYC pie? I asked to be seated outside and was shown to my table in less than 7 minutes. I ordered the Parma in Bianco. It tasted fresh and was very enjoyable. There was a ton of Arugula on it, but... I survived. There was also a lot of prosciutto too. It was a really tasty. The ambiance was nice. Even though there were people bustling about outside of the restaurant boundaries, I felt like the vibe was really relaxed and calm. The location is great - especially if you're a tourist.
