My recent visit to the orthopedic office was disappointing and uncomfortable. From the moment we arrived, the front desk staff particularly Alissa was unwelcoming. When we asked for clarification about our appointment and payment, her tone came across as condescending and dismissive. It felt as though we were an inconvenience rather than patients seeking care. What was even more frustrating was the unexpected change in the cost of the procedure, which wasn't communicated clearly beforehand. The lack of transparency made the situation feel disorganized and, frankly, untrustworthy. Throughout the visit, Alissa's attitude remained cold and unprofessional. In a medical setting especially one where patients may already be anxious or in pain it's crucial that front office staff create a friendly and supportive environment. Unfortunately, that was not the case during our visit. I hope this feedback encourages better communication, empathy, and professionalism moving forward. This is for the Northridge location. Update to my nice review on 12/16/24! Boy am I shocked! I was told when I was in the Ventura office I had GREAT insurance and all I had to pay was a $6.42 co-pay for my orthotics which I paid in office on 12/18/24. I have come to find out they sent me over to a collection agency 7 MONTHS LATER for some owed balance and never contacting me of this or sending ANY statements. What the heck is going on? I told them in office at the time if they were covered I would order and they assured me they were. I will be calling the office on Monday July 21st first thing! This is very unethical! I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND this place to anyone and never expected this! read more

Just because you wear a white lab coat does not make you a doctor. These are technicians that get 2-3 months of training so don't be fooled. Some years back my son did a cranial prosthetic here and what should have been a few months in a helmet ended up over a year. We trusted them and should have not. My son had a very mild case a bit flat in the back of his head which is not so uncommon. We could have done nothing but they said it would be easy and quick. Poorly trained and low skilled technicians parading as experts. Now my son's hair growth 13 years later is odd and thin in places where the helmet pressed on his scalp for too long. Not a day goes by I don't have regrets and bad feelings. Stay away from this place. read more

So about two months ago, I got a referral to see a podiatrist and then he sent me a referral for some diabetic shoes and the closest location to me was Encino, which is about 30 minutes away, so I asked my friend if she wouldn't mind taking me and I called to make the appointment the next earliest they had Was 6 to 7 weeks out so I took it and I ended up going only to find out that the place charges you a lot of money for parking. They don't validate your ticket which I found out once I went inside to ask cause there was no signs anywhere stating that they don't validate it and it wasn't till I got inside the parking that I saw how expensive it was. I explained to the staff there that it wasn't right that we had to pay for parking since it's a doctors appointment I would probably have to pay for a co-pay on top of that. The girl there took my insurance and ID card to make a copy handed me some forms to fill out while my friend went to go move her vehicle because we couldn't afford to pay for the parking as she left the building she told the gal at the front desk how ridiculous that was how she never been to a place that charges their patients for parking when it's a medical appointment Which I completely agree with her needless to say I ended up getting kicked out. The gal they really told me to get . That they canceled my appointment and told me I had to leave who does business this way that is so really ridiculous. I plan on calling my insurance company tomorrow and filing a complaint. I already called and spoke to the podiatrist who referred me to this place. After many attempts to make an appointment with the Santa Barbara Hanger office in town I decided to give the Ventura branch a try. I received a quick response and scheduled my visit for orthotics. It has been years since I have been able to wear closed toed shoes due to feet issues. I feel very lucky to have found Susan Cimadoro who worked with me. She is very knowledgeable and detailed, and fitted me with orthotics as well as helped me find shoes that would work. I'm very thankful to have found this office and Susan! read more

After shoulder surgery, I needed my original DONJOY Ultra Sling III replaced after wearing it nearly 24/7 for four weeks. My physical therapy team did not want me to wash the sling so I needed another. My insurance company advised that I was covered for a replacement and sent me to Hangar Prosthetics & Orthotics for the sling. At this point, I cannot drive so I called Hangar to ask about the possibilities, i.e., could they mail the sling? Could I send someone to pick it up? Their answer was an unequivocal, cut and dried, completely rigid and non-negotiable, "No." From their name, I am sure that they provide an extremely important and appreciated service for their patients/customers/clientele. I am sure that fittings for complete comfort and satisfaction are a hallmark of what they do and mean everything to the beneficiaries of their services. Kudos to them for all the good that they do for others, however what about people like me who don't need these extras? Even though I did not need or want an appointment, their representative went on to say that the earliest appointment they could give me was March 19th, which happens to be two days before I see my surgeon (3/21); 6 weeks after my surgery, and the point when I would no longer need the sling. Why would someone who has been wearing a sling for over four weeks need an appointment? I have physical therapy twice a week and those professionals are constantly checking to make sure that all is well with how I am wearing my sling. I can put my sling on eyes closed, in the dark or whatever. I haven't needed assistance since week 2 in removing the sling or putting it on again. So why, why, why do I need an appointment with Hangar staff before I can have a new sling? Not certain but wondering if an appointment and a staff member putting on my sling allows Hangar to bill my insurance a lot more for a completely unnecessary service? I actually need the sling today. I needed it when I spoke to them yesterday. It would basically take my family members 15 to 20 minutes to arrive at their offices. Because of my experience with this vendor, I believe that "low hanging fruit" cases such as mine are intentionally complicated with a mandatory appointment in order to create a maximum monetizing opportunity for Hangar. At this juncture in the reality of my day-to-day life, a new sling would mean a great deal, but I cannot expect a company like Hangar to see or care about a patient/customer such as myself because I am not in front of the dollar signs, which would be a "prioritizing a patient" mentality--I am buried way BEHIND them--which is the Hangar Way/Company First Way of handling a patient who needs equipment only, no extras. read more

Doesn't matter if I call early in the day or later on their answering service always answers to ask if I want to leave a message to get a call back but they either don't relay the message or the office just chooses not to call back. read more

These guys are pretty good. I was fitted first at the Hospital then, I made another trip to their Encino office to get a new smaller brace that fit my anatomy better than the hospital device. The appointment was easy to make, the staff was nice and efficient getting me a brace that fit and extra pads. Would highly recommend using them as this is who Providence Hospitals use for their in hospital fittings. read more

Definitely come in and meet with Dr. Thomas. WOWZERS! What an amazing human being. One of the most phenomenal, helpful and knowledgable individuals I've ever met. Our daughter had been in a cranial helmet for months with a different company and it ended up being a challenging situation to say the least. We were very unhappy and didn't quite know what to do. I scheduled an appointment here as a last resort. The moment Dr. Thomas walked into the room, he had such a calming presence and was just so kind towards our family. He spoke to our daughter in such a caring way. He was patient and listened to all of our concerns, didn't ever rush us and we genuinely felt heard. Our family wishes that we had started out here, but are so glad that at least we ended up in the right spot to finish our helmet journey with confidence. Receptionist provided clear instructions on the phone. Their construction going & their sign is hidden. They do not validate parking so you have no choice but to pay. Street parking in the front & good luck if you can locate a spot. Also most importantly if you have trouble walking you want to get as close to the office. Office is located in the rear of the bldg.. Door facing parking lot. Parking is $1.40 for 15 minutes. I did not finish until close to 530 pm so I end paying close to $6. Handicap available when you pull up to the parking lot and yes you still pay. I know because that was my situation. Arrived approx 25 minutes early to fill out paperwork and praying I would be their maybe 30 minutes. Their was 2 people ahead of me and 2 after I arrived, all seen prior to me. I was seen approx 440 pm. Employee introduced himself to me. Provided good customer service. I was fitted for my brace and signed paperwork received. Finished. My son is now here picking up his custom inserts and we have been waiting for an hour.... This is the second time we've waited this long to be attended.... Ordered my prescription orthotic shoe insert my doctor ordered at the Santa Clarita location. What they said would take 2 weeks to be made took 5 weeks with limited to no updates. The insert didn't seem right when I received it, but didn't know any better. Saw my doctor and it was made incorrectly. I have been calling the encino and Santa Clarita clinic leaving multiple messages the past week. I have yet to receive a call back. I have never used or ordered an orthotic, but being a business owner myself with my real estate business, if I were to have customer service this bad, I would be living in a box somewhere. Will never use any Hanger Clinic again. PS. This is my first negative review I have ever posted. I purchase a pair of Hanger knee braces as prescribed by my doctor. The braces are good quality and accomplish the purpose for which the doctor prescribed them. The customer service from this vendor is some of the worst I have experience. Two of the pads which bear the greatest stress caused major blisters on the back of both my knees after using the braces on a 10 mile hike. The local office tried to order a pair of pads from Hanger which were designed for heavy use situations like mine. Hanger refused to send them because my braces were a standard size that Hanger supports. They only provide the special pads for people who have purchased custom braces. The local office searched through their records and found a customer who had purchased the custom braces. Under his name they were able to order them. I was willing to pay the additional cost, but Hanger was unwilling to make them available because they hadn't gotten enough money out of me up front. I would recommend using another vendor for knee braces if you plan to spend many hours wearing them under stress conditions. read more

I have had nothing but trouble with these people since day one and even though I finally received my brace after weeks of lies and problems I now have billing issues with them. I did file a complaint with their corporate office and it looks like I will have to call them again. These people gave me a price I paid my co pay. Now they have billed insurance for double the quote they told me and they billed it wrong. Of course there is no one available to talk to. Horrible customer service!!! I have been a patient of many hanger clinics since 2015. All are absolutely amazing, but so far this one has been the best experience yet. AJ is a very well informed prosthetist and has been in the field for a very long time. He knows what he is doing and listens to his patients with true intent and cares for you. I am moving to Idaho in a month and he has been working very hard with getting me prepared for the move comfortably and making sure that I have everything set in place with new sockets before hand. There is no Hanger clinic in the state of Idaho but I will continue to stay with Hanger Encino because of how amazing the entire staff is. If you are a new amputee I highly recommend this to be your choice. And this is coming from an amputee since the age of 2. I have been to many different prosthetists, and seen many different companies. Hanger is by far the best of the best. Trust me :) read more

I had nothing but problems with their billing department, charging me for something they should have fought with my insurance over and I was the one who argued for six months to get it rectified and still they have not issued me my remaining balance- they do not take their jobs seriously and do not take care of the customer contrary to what they have written on their website- they are a national company not a local one. read more

I have been helping my elderly parent with his care and was referred to Hanger Clinic for custom insoles. Not only is the office is terrible, extremely rude, and incredibly difficult to work with, their lack of communication with their patients is appalling. I honestly do not know how any older adult would be able to navigate here without outside assistance. Hanger Clinic provides no support or assistance with getting documents for Medicare, and worse, they make the patient coordinate everything because, and I quote "Doctors do not respond to us." I first went to Vogue who could not do custom fit shoes, their supplier in China had too many complaints, They sent me to Vivano Custom shoes in Woodland Hills. Their shoes caused an ulcer in my left toe and in my right toe, I returned once for an adjustment, but the shoes were just too tight. Went to Hanger in Encino, they did a custom fit, shoes from NY, no ulcers and I could put my shoes on without using a shoehorn. They did a great job, happy feet. read more

Went for an evaluation for a helmet for my baby. The orthotist was honest and could've tried to pressure me into helmeting her so that they could make a nice chunk of change off me, but told me she really didn't need it. A+++++ for honesty.
