I'm not sure if the person at the counter was new or training but he didn't know if they served hot cocoa. Another staff member taught him how to prepare it and ring it up. She asked if I wanted whipped cream but didn't say it was a $1 up charge which is quite steep for a drink that's only $3.50 or so to start. It was just canned whipped cream so that felt very pricey: the cocoa was average. I also ordered a cheese Danish to go and the employee just opened a box and the lid of the Danish cloche and told me to grab one. I feel like they should use a paper to grab it; I don't like the thought of other customers putting their hands in to choose. I also didn't want to touch my own pastry with my bare hands before washing. It didn't really make me want to return to try a sandwich. I understand that new employees need training, if that was the case. But I do think they should be familiar with what basic beverages are available.

The service was very slow and the sandwich was very dry. It could have used a sauce or mayo or something. The rest of my group had bagel sandwiches that they didn't enjoy. The avocado was unripe and possibly or frozen and thawed which doesn't improve the texture or flavor.

My friends and I were always lucky to snag a table for us those times. But coming in the morning is really pleasant. I've only gotten coffee here in the past, so this time we got food. We were planning on sharing that crepe with another friend, but that crepe was so good we demolished it haha. We ended up ordering the Spinach Pesto crepe to share for later instead. But wow, I have nothing but praise for these crepes because they blew me away. The Berries and Cream crepe was just amazing. Fruits tasted fresh and juicy. The crepe itself was perfectly sweet. And the whipped cream cheese filling inside was light and creamy. I couldn't ask for more in a fruit crepe. Also the light drizzle of sweetened condensed milk on top? Chef's kiss. And then we tried the Spinach and Pesto crepe. It had all my favorite things inside, so of course I loved it. I loved the savory pesto spread inside the crepe, the spinach, ricotta, and parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. The tomatoes added a nice acidity to balance and the balsalmic glaze tied it all together on top. It felt like applause roared in my mouth. Also I can't forget the Pistachio Croffin I ate too. It had great texture, and had that subtle nutty flavor from the pistachio. I really liked it. Anyways, I'm a big Morning Brew fan. I got it hot, because of the cool mornings here in the valley. It paired great with the Orange cranberry Scone! Of course I got it warmed! It was so moist and yummy, no butter needed there! I talked to the owners daughter and she told me the bakers arrive at 3:00-4:00 am so everything is fresh each day! My friend got a breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, cheese on a fresh made bagel! There was a chipotle aioli on the sandwich that made it over the top! I had to have a bite, just to tell everyone about it! Shhh! I might have snuck an extra bite! So SO YUMMY! The shop itself is small, retro, and really cool it looks like something that could have existed in the 1970s, but with a modern twist. When you walk in, there isn't any indoor seating. Instead, it's more of a walk-up counter experience where you place your order. Around the shop you'll find different stationery items for purchase, like bumper stickers, greeting cards, notebooks, and other fun little finds. I ordered a hot chocolate for my toddler and a latte for myself, and both were perfect especially because it was freezing outside that day. The warmth of the drinks hit the spot. While there's no seating indoors, there is plenty of outdoor seating on the patio area, which overlooks the river and offers a really nice view. Because of the cold weather during our visit, we didn't stay to sit and enjoy it, but on a warmer day I could definitely see it being a lovely place to linger. From what we saw walking around, this seemed to be the only coffee shop in the immediate area, and it's easy to understand why locals love it. It's small, charming, and the staff was very friendly, making it a memorable little stop during our visit.

If that didn't sound appealing, Hayesville is in itself the weird back corner of the Appalachian mountains, so don't be too hard on them. My Fiancé and I popped in to get some work done on vacation, and wound up spending most of the time befriending the wonderful barista behind the counter, who gave us drip coffee refills and free donuts from yesterday ("Yesterday's treasures"). I haven't Yelp reviewed in a second, but the Fiancé insisted I support this business. Better Together is in good hands with a 4.9, but I'll happily bump them up even further.
