I walked in and it was room after room of glass, silver, and collectables-- like the illustration of affluence turned in on itself. But that's not the one-star reason. I agree with the reviewer who couldn't get service to save her life. Sales women actually STEPPED AROUND ME but never once asked if I could use some help, what I was looking for, or even to tell me that they don't serve the likes of me. Although the majority of items in this classy shop are very expensive, there are a good number of inexpensive items (perfect for hostess gifts) and wonderful decor items. If you are a bride, definitely register here. They have a huge wall full of elegant patterns to choose from and Ingrid is the most knowledgable person in town when it comes to tableware. The store is packed with a large selection of desk accessories, kitchenware (mostly decorative, not as functional), picture frames, and home decor items. There are extensive collections of Herend and Baccarat figurines. During the holidays, tables are set up with gifts already wrapped and ready to go- perfect for those times you need an emergency gift. The store offers complimentary gift wrap on your purchases and they do an elegant job. A great time to come into the shop is during the CCC Partners Card promotion. Twice I have come to this store and said after greeting that I my daughter was registered her. The response was "ok". Never was I asked the name or any other acknowledgment after over 5 minutes in the store. Worse customer service I have ever experienced. I've lived in Alamo Heights for 3 years now and decided I wanted to replace some of my pieces in our guest room. I went in to Hanley Wood recently and even though the selection of items was decent, the customer service is despicable!! The ladies working here are ice cold unfriendly and unwelcoming. I think it was the owner, an older woman who took the cake with terrible service. I noticed another customer walk in and walk right now after she was never acknowledged. Get a life ladies. Put a smile on your face, you'll look younger and exude better energy if you at least smile. I was clearly offended, will never go back and definitely do NOT recommend coming here, there are MANY other wonderful specialty shops around San Antonio with just as nice and better items. read more

This place is definitely not about customer service. Ingrid is the only one who actually wants to wait on somebody. My friend bought a ton of Le creuset for my son's wedding and if she had not told me that she had, we might not have ever gotten it. Nobody was ever notified. When I went in to buy, I was ignored by several salespeople until Ingrid came upon me. I don't know how this place is stays open. read more

My experience with Hanley wood was great! Alan specifically, so accommodating and friendly! Had some issues with my order and he went out of his way to make things right. My entire purchase was done online and over the phone and everything I needed was taken care of and more. I only have one complaint and that is the women I spoke to over the phone every time (at least 3 instances) were not so friendly and a rude. Other than that, if doing business with Hanley Wood and Alan is apart of it, no doubt your order will be perfect. read more

I was very disappointed today as I walked in this store for the FIRST TIME! My mom and I walked in wanting to buy my grandmother a Versace China set from the Butterfly Garden collection. When we walked in the lady that was SUPPOSED to greet us decided to turn her head and pretend like she was fixing a display, but still never said a word to us as we stood there looking around for 5 min. We continued to walk to the back where a gentlemen said hello, FINALLY! It's such a shame because they have amazing gifts for everyone, but I refuse to give my money to people who treat me like I am invisible! I might give it another try but not for a while. Hopefully they hire JOLLY people for the holidays, instead of people who choose to judge by the color of your skin.
