I came in here the other day to get my 2nd shingles vaccine as I got my 1st one @ a CVS back in Las Vegas & knew that they would have a record of this because I wasn't sure of the exact date of when I did get my 1st shingles shot. The lady @ the pharmacy counter was very nice & was able to pull me up by my name & DOB. I had to update my insurance info as my plan changed the first of the new year. It was very busy when I stopped in here on a Thursday afternoon around 4pm. I didn't schedule an appointment for my vaccine as I was having trouble connecting to the CVS app. I tell ya the Verizon cell phone service in this area isn't the best. I was able to get my vaccine as a walk in even though it was busy. Jaime the pharmacist was the one who gave me my shingles shot. He was very friendly & nice to chat with. He gave me my shot without any issues (yes, the shingles vaccine does hurt! As I tell patient's "its not the needle that hurts its the medicine) & I had told him how I use to work here in my 20's. The pharmacy has grown as I counted probable about 5-6 people behind the counter. The store has even grown too. I have found that it has gotten more crowded with aisles/products, as if they put more in this store. There isn't much room to move down an aisle if there is someone else in it too. I did get my coupons from their coupon machine & did some shopping based on what coupons I had. I do find CVS to be more expensive than Walmart but with the coupons it helped by lowering the prices of some of the items that I wanted to buy. I did go to the self checkout (which I hate) & did have some problems with scanning my items but one of the employees came over right away & helped me fix the issues. I do find that it can be a pain in getting out of if you park on the smaller parking lot side so I went home the back way then trying to fit to get back out on islington street.

Also you can only get to it from Kittery, Maine - there is no access from Portsmouth NH! Surprisingly large Commissary for such a small base. In addition to the expected low Commissary prices we were surprised by the variety. Has the usual meat, produce, dairy and dry goods but also has items not found at local Maine grocery stores. We found German Spatzel, German wine and brandy filled chocolates, French and German coffee, English tea, European cookies, Christmas bread, etc. It reminded us of time we spent in Europe! Unfortunately we did not find any German bratwurst, perhaps they will have it next time.

The produce section was depressing: unripe mixed with too bananas jumbled together in cardboard boxes, green bell peppers wrapped in clear plastic so that the consumer could see their rotting crowns and stay clear (or at least, I assume that's why they do it that way), etc. They did offer a bag of clementines at a low $2.99, and a bag of very small -- which is how I like them -- at 6 for $3.00; other than that, nothing tempting, except the temptation to wonder what sort of store management allows this unappetizing situation to exist? An excellent sourdough jalapeno cheddar bread loaf (still partially frozen, but no matter), good prices on the store's brand of flour tortillas, which would have been more attractive if they hadn't been three days past their sell-by date -- again, who are the mangers at this store who allow this to happen? -- and and that's it for the bread aisle. Tiny, frozen vegetable and fruit cabinets offering little selection, and lots of chest freezer space devoted to prepared meals, which I don't use. There's a meat department in this store, but by that point I was done with the grand experiment, and lined up at the only staffed check-out counter (out of five), waited, paid, and left. Prices are visible and nothing is really a surprise. Gas prices are pretty good and the cashiers here are just so fast. People move through the line so fast it's crazy. While the store may not have the best prices in the world, they aren't way out of touch, and this place is the only one of it's type in Alton, besides the "Village Store", which isn't nearly as great. Parking is easy and there are entrances to the station in both the front, by the gas station, and in the back, with additional parking. Also, they carry the Boston Sunday Globe which is useful to have up in NH. Located right at the Route 11, Route 28, and Route 28A rotary in Alton. 5 stars. Definitely the best out of the three gas stations in Alton.
